Honoring Veterans

America gave my generation Freedom and the right to vote. My generation should respect the veterans more and we should be thankful for our freedom. My generation should respect the veterans more because the fought for the rights we have today we should be thankful, we should not take granit for it. Another thing is that they fought and they lost their brother and they fought on even though they were mourning on their loss. The last thing is why should you disrespect your veterans without them we would not have the rights we have today.

Honoring those that have served our country has been a long-standing tradition in one of the countries with the best militaries in the world. We even have an annual holiday celebrating those who have served where an entire day is dedicated to veterans in our country. But the question is often asked as to why we honor these veterans with their own day, and why they are treated with the utmost respect year round. I believe the answer varies from person to person, but the answer is clear to me.

As a nation, we need to be thankful for our veterans. The men and women who join the military undergo nine weeks, or more, of boot camp. That right there is said to be the most laborious nine weeks of anyone’s life. Drill sergeants break them down both emotionally and physically, so they can improve upon them and make them stronger. Those are the people we should be thanking, the ones who fight to preserve our country’s freedom, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. Those are the fundamentals of our Constitution that those people fight to protect. However, after their service, it doesn’t seem like people know that.

Saying “The Pledge of Allegiance” and singing “The Star Spangled Banner” makes me feel so proud to live here. Listening to veterans tell stories about wars is so interesting. You wonder how they survived and how some are still willing to go out and fight. When you see a veteran, you realize that this is your home. These veterans have given me a life most people would love to have. These veterans stood up for what they believed in. I will never meet all of them, but I will never be able to express how thankful I am. These veterans are people we pass every day, they don’t expect a thank you. We lose about 1,000 World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam veterans everyday. They should be thanked a lot

An American can be defined by a variety of things. A natural born citizen is just as American as an immigrant searching for a new life, just like in “America and I” by Aniza Yezierska. An American can be a rich businessman or it could be a dedicated soldier like in “Veteran’s Day: Never Forget Their Duty” by John McCain. An individual’s definition of being an American is shaped by their life experiences. A person’s view on being an American is different because of experiences, such as being a veteran, being an immigrant, or living in poverty, all of which affect one’s perspective.

Not many people would withstand having to go off to war knowing their life was on the line. There is much respect and gratitude inclined towards those who did and sacrificed everything they had. The men and women who helped shape the face of this country through their honor, legacy, and patriotism are those we call veterans. People often say that freedom is not free and that price has been paid by countless brave individuals. These brave individuals are known as veterans. Veterans should be remembered, respected and honored because of their sacrifices, courage, and patriotism.

Honoring Veterans, West Delaware High School participated in an assembly on Nov.11 hosted in the Handson Auditorium.The event was arranged and prepared by teacher Jorden Pollock, with seniors Nicholas Juergens and Bergan Bloomers representing the student body.

Thank you for serving. I can not tell how glad I am that you served in either the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, or the Coast Guard. From any of the wars, WWI,WWII,The Korean War, Persian Gulf War, The War On Terrorism (Afghanistan), the Iraq War, and the Texas Revolution. Thank you for serving. Veterans are heroes in the eyes of many citizens of the United States. There are over 20 million veterans that have risked their lives at young ages to help give the nation a fear free life. They serve and protect the land for their children, spouses, parents, family, and neighbors. Yet they are not treated with the love and respect they truly deserve. The veterans took a devastating loss when the “House Appropriations Subcommittee marked up the 2016 Veterans Affairs funding bill, and slashed more than $1.4 billion from the presidents requested budget for America’s Veterans” ( ask mrs. Pyle 8). Today, the veterans are treated worse than prisoners who have committed murder or rape. While these criminals have a safe and warm place to stay,

Living in America, the land of the free, I have taken the right of freedom for granted a few too many times. To this day, certain populations around the world are not able to enjoy the right of individualism. Many are oppressed by their country’s strict law due to a primarily focus on male dominance, child labor, and female oppression. Obtaining freedom is never easy. It takes honor, courage, and commitment. Fighting for freedom is an ironic concept because soldiers must be willing to sacrifice their own. Even after knowing this sacrifice, we still have brave individuals who volunteer to put their lives in harm’s way for the safety and insurance of our freedom. It is only fair that we return the favor and take care of our soldiers and veterans

All military veterans make sacrifices, and fight courageously for our freedom. They protect our beloved county from disastrous peril. Veterans are one of the only reasons that we are safe, allowed to do what we want, and have free agency. They deserve to be honored and respected as amazing people who put aside everything for the country’s needs.
