Hope in Suffering To speak about the hope in suffering or the hope for those that is of the Christian faith; it is necessary to discuss Eschatology. It would be helpful to get an understanding of the meaning of this concept. It is the faith of the believers that that drive the engine of hope that enable us to move to the further or the LAST THING. In Cambridge Dictionary of Christian Theology says, “The concept of eschatology comprises all views and tenets of faith associated with the so-called ‘last things’ (ta eschata in Greek)” . It encompasses everything as it pertains to the present life and the life to come. It deals with heaven and hell and any other facet of pre or post-life. In the study of Eschatology some writers of the ninetieth and twentieth century, believe that we are living in the last days. It was there that it was a prediction of the events that will take place at the end of time. Therefore whenever anything that resemble the completion of Bible prophecy there would be a cry that that the end was near. The hope of the christen faith has many different areas to be considered. The word apocalyptic means to “unveiling”, …show more content…
McGrath says that the New Testament is filled with the belief that something new has happened to humanity. That is the life and death of Jesus Christ but more important through his resurrection. It is through His resurrection that redemption and hope come to those who are believers. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 state “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. As Christ live then, we shall live. As Paul stated in these verses, we are made alive because He died for our uprightness. It is the preaching and the teaching of Jesus that we receive hope for everlasting

Ira Chernus’ article, “Cheer up, it’s just the end of the world,” addresses the effect of the many apocalyptic worries today on Americans. Chernus begins by introducing the biblical origin, then the dilution, and lastly the multiplication of the ideal apocalypse. The article describes the foundation, biblical apocalypse, as one ending becomes means to a new beginning; a rebirth of this world into a better one. The author depicts the evolution of apocalypse succeeding the biblical era beginning with the nuclear age of World War 2 which introduced the new idea of complete extinction. The article goes on to challenge the blossoming apocalypses that stemmed from the nuclear age with, in Chernus’ opinion, the prominent danger of environmental destruction.
The apocalypse is a very popular theme throughout the modern day film and literature industry. In all of these pop culture renditions, the apocalypse and doomsday go hand-in-hand. The apocalypse today is seen as the end of the world, natural disasters, mass illnesses or climate change are said to destroy the world and humankind along with it. However, the term “apocalypse” has been around long before the movies and books. Originally, the apocalypse did not always mean the end of the world. The word “apocalypse” comes from the Greek word “apokalypsis”, which also means “revelation” or to uncover a hidden truth (Dayton 7, 2). Therefore, the original concept of the apocalypse is a disclosure of knowledge, revelation or a lesson to be taught. In
For my senior project I’m collecting items for Hand of Hope. Hand of Hope is a Pro-Life outreach center in Fuquay, North Carolina. Hand of Hope sticks out in the society because they take in pregnant girls and provide them with the emotion and financial support to get them through their pregnancy. By Hand of Hope’s help, they can keep them from making decisions, such as abortion, and can provide them with the necessities that they need to raise a healthy and happy baby.
As evidenced in both Night and Transit, human beings have a remarkable ability to survive horrifying and inhumane experiences through hope and optimism. The author, Elie Wiesel, is a survivor from the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel was held in concentration camps and dehumanized on a daily basis. The most heartwarming part about the survivors of the Holocaust was their ability to retain hope in such dark times. Hope and optimism were a fantastic resolution that arguably kept a will to survive for the prisoners. Transit by Anna Sigher’s is an escape story, a run from the Nazis that portrays the tension of waiting, hiding, and scheming in order to safely flee and survive the Holocaust. Trying to survive became more of a game to Seghers as she hurried from one consulate to the next in an attempt to assemble the visas and permits required for journey. The details portrayed in both stories for the refugees whether they were enduring concentration camps or escaping what they endured showed the true strength of a survivor.
One will no longer draw a pseudo-life from the drives and urgencies of the world, but directly again from the living voice of the divine author of life. And this will be a resurrection: the true self appearing anew, intimately filled and brimming with the spirit or desire of the author. Theology does not simply think about these things, it has to think by means of them: with a theological mind that has died and is now alive in Christ, drawing its mode of reflection from Christ.
Roadmap to the End of Days by Daniel Friedmann presents a biblical view of religious events, using history to connect the end of days. Digging within religious texts, Friedmann speaks about the days of creations, explaining, as well as referencing, historical events that happened through holy text. Throughout the 10 chapters, the author considers several events; the cosmic ideal, the Messianic era, a general timeline, the past in recent history, looking forward and the world to be (in his eyes) alongside a conclusion.
Going deeper in depth about life after death events are found in I Thessalonians 4:13-18. We all need to find comfort in God’s view concerning life, death, and eternal life.
Many early Christians of this period would have originally been raised Jewish and further had contact with Hellenistic ideas and literature during their lives. Thus it is important to understand from what historical and literary contexts the Revelation resulted from. Christians of this time would have been familiar with the Book of Enoch, Ezekiel and Daniel. This is significant, as the people would immediately recognize apocalyptic messages or other themes that differed from these works. For example, it is traditional in apocalyptic writing for the visionary experience to be described by an ancient hero of the faith (Gabel, 164). By having John, a figure presumed to be alive narrating the story, the author (perhaps John) is making the point that Christianity lives in the now and in the future. Christianity’s future does not need vindication from a past figure; it has already been vindicated by God and is within its
The majority of apocalyptic literature was written between second century B. C. and first century A.D. Apocalyptic literature is a specific genre and can be defined within a compositional understanding which includes apocalyptic works referring to historical Jewish events or describing other worldly journeys, prophesying about the end of the world, and the judgment of God. As has been shown while apocalyptic literature may not be considered canonical scripture by Protestants it is very fascinating to study and

Is hope present during difficult times? According to the Bible in Romans 15:13, it states, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Hope for Christians is knowing and being certain that there is hope because it is present in the Word of God (Wellman). Therefore hope can be present during difficult times, just like during the Reformation. The Protestant Reformation was filled with struggle and hostility, one could only wonder if there was hope. The Protestant Reformation brought change to Europe during the 1500s, that drastically impacted the lives of many. The Reformation altered political, social, spiritual, and the overall culture of Europe. It all began when Martin Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses on the church doors, that called for a change in the church's actions and principles. Soon groups with different theologies, than the Latin Catholic Church, began to emerge, like Lutheran, Calvinist, the Anglican, and the Radical Reformation. This separation of religion brought violence between, towns, neighbors, and even families, some religious groups even faced persecution (Head). One of the many people that brought hope during the Protestant Reformation was Albrecht Durer. He was considered to be the best German Renaissance artist. Durer depicted the Reformation in his painting, that provided Lutherans with hope during the Protestant Reformation and even brings people today.
Grief and loss, that is what you are commonly left feeling after a natural disaster. Whether you lost a family member, friend, pet, or your home, you could be left feeling this way. There is no real way to stop a natural disaster, but for your own well being it is best to get out of the way to avoid any sort of lose to you or your family. Natural disasters kill around 68,000 people every year, whether it's Tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, or floods. These storms also affect millions more due to the destruction of their homes or belongings.
Andrew faced various abuses but the ones that stood out to me the most was the ones that his mother Hope and his foster care taker Mrs. Leonard. During his stay with is mother it was clear to understand that hope was a young mother struggling to keep up with motherhood and adult responsibilities. She placed Andy in a situation that I would consider physical neglect. She had a hard time keeping her job that she was given a second time in, after the minister got her job back for her. I have found myself defining physical neglect as failure to provide a child with basic necessities such as food and clothing. Hope neglect toward Andy that stood out was not being able to provide nourishment. Andy explains to us how his mother found a stray cat in the street and prefer providing food for the cat rather than her son.
The New Testament highlights resurrection and living a life of faith and purity. Those who commit themselves to God and are in union with the Lord work towards God’s grace and a divine fate. However, for those who live a life of sin and mock God, he turns his back to leave them to lead their lives in sin and ultimately
