A month ago, the Desert Hot Springs High, Soccer Girls, and myself when on a hike. There were about fifteen girls. We all started hiking up the hills together, but there was a moment where a one of the girls was left behind. I noticed so I stopped, turned around, and walking over to where she was at to see if she was okay. When I got to her, I asked her if she was okay, and she said to me “I can’t do this anymore, it’s too much. My legs hurt. I’m very tired just leave without me. I’ll walk back down by myself”, but I didn’t leave her side. I stayed with her until she was ready to continue going up the hill. As we were walking up, I was motivating her, so she can making it to the top of the hill. I didn’t let her give up on herself. There were
There were 3 families going to Toronto, Canada to watch the “Panama Girls Basketball Games.”They were staying in a large house in a small neighborhood. When it was time to go to the basketball game we had to drive to a small train station about 3 miles from the house. The train station was very small it only had a few trains going to the station. As we walk up the concrete stairs to the track we can here wheels on the solid metal track. As the train pulled up it kept going and you saw lots of heads from the large windows go by.We got on a long silver train with about 25-30 cars and each had two levels. You walked onto one of the cars and the seats were blue with red, yellow, and white spots on it. The carpets match the seats and each car had maybe 20 seats and seat held 2 people.
Amanda Ripley argues in her essay “The Case Against High School Sports,” that high school sports should be removed in favor of a higher focus on education. Ripley presents her argument why removing high school sports would help “America’s mediocrity in education” (1). Ripley draws the comparison between the educational capabilities of South Korea and the United States. Ripley presents the story of one Texas high school, an area considered the heart and soul of American football from movies such as “Friday Night Lights.” While Ripley presents multiple arguments against high school sports, there are some other arguments that can still be made, such as the heavy financial burden on our schools and the potential injuries to our students.
Basically best friends. We would Facetime and message each other every day. Time flies by and it’s 8th grade. Everyone had already formed their cliques. Hannah and I weren’t in the same clique, and didn’t sit at the same table. Hannah wasn’t very popular and hung out with the “lame people.” I encouraged Hannah to sit with me. My friends were absolutely rude and mean about it at first, but then they got to know her and she felt like she belonged. I felt overjoyed for her. One day, something terrible had happened in math class. These two kids named Joey and Peter who were popular jocks, called this girl named Brianna ugly. It was because Brianna stood up for this kid named Eric, who was being bullied by them. Hannah told them that it wasn’t nice. Then they continually called her loser and dumb until she started crying. Hannah went up to me and I asked her what was wrong. She told me what had happened, and I felt so anxious. What I was going to do took guts. I marched over with my friend Adaora. “Stop it! Bullying isn’t okay! Shut up!”“Yeah, cut it out. It’s not cool. You’re hurting her feelings.”, Adaora said. They then stopped and were quiet the whole class period. Hannah was about to leave school, but I told her that I was always going to be there for her, no matter what happens. I felt courageous. It beyond doubt made our friendship so much stronger knowing that we would always be there for each
This was it. The Aviano Softball team of 2015 has worked so hard during the season and were on their way to the championship game. I along was part of the team for the past three years, and I’ve seen how we have grown from underdogs to the next powerhouse of Division II. During the first day, we mercy ruled AFNORTH and Ansbach. The second day arrived to determine where we would be in the semifinals, and we won against Hohenfels. The next morning was competitive; the final game was nerve wracking but it was all worth it in the end.
It was my favorite day of the week, game day. I was a sophomore, 16, about to play our district rivals in soccer, Cedar park High School. Year after year us and CP are neck and neck for title of district champs. But this one game in particular, on March 5th 2013 I will never forget.
The next practice I was putting my gear on slowly like usual so my best friend Trinity could get there before I had to go practice with another girl, since Trinity was really the only one who was interesting to talk to. When she finally got there, we starting practicing normal catch with the softball. After I finished telling her that I wanted to try pitching, and after a lot of convincing her that I could do it, I tried my pitch. It was to low, and Trinity got it as a ground ball. “I told you you can’t pitch, let’s just practice the normal way.” I said no, I needed to become a pitcher, to help my team and help me to not always be at 3rd base.
In the summer, I was supposed to go to a girls camp for my church. There were a few requirements we had to pass off before going. One of them was a 3 mile hike and a camping trip. We decided to hit 2 birds with 1 stone. So we set a date to go camping with the girls who were going to camp. There were about 16 girls who decided they would go. We set off on our 1 night trip on April 4th, 2014. It started off normal. A regular trail through the woods. The path started to get thinner and thinner as we walked on it. We then got to a part where we had to go over a log that was partly hanging over a chasm. I peered over the edge to see thousands of sharp rocks and a large pool of rushing water. After 3 girls had gone over the log safely, it was my turn. I slowly put my right leg over the enormous log. I had made sure to steady myself before putting my left leg over. After I had done so, I threw my left leg over and sat on the log. Then I put my right foot on the ground. I thought I was safe, but my left foot 's, shoelace got caught on the rugged wood. I pulled with force, but that was a bad idea. I got it undone, but that force threw me off balance
I peek through the door to say goodbye to my grandma as I was on my way to cheer practice. As I observed her through the window I see her prepping her insulin, she lets out a small “ouch” as she inserts the needle. I watch her unable to help, I walk in give her hugs and kisses and run out to make it on time for cheer practice. I would practice on average five hours a day seven days a week since the age of three. Dedicated and passionate about cheer I thought I would never let it go. When I wasn’t spending time with my grandma trying to assist her or I was studying deeply to get into a good medical program, I was at cheer practice. While in the midst of studying and cheer, my grandma got really sick, I watched her helplessly depart. I wasn’t
There once was a young girl named Amelia. She lived in a small town called Lightwood.
It was May 23th, 2015, two days before Memorial Day. This weekend was also the Pacesetter Soccer Invitational. It was the 1st game we had played in the tournament and I was going in for a tackle. I put my right foot in front of the ball to get it, and the girl kept going. She knocked me over because she was a lot taller than me (surprise). I hit the ground so hard. She kept dribbling, but I knew I could not give up. I got back I could not catch up with her because there was a shooting pain in my back.
It is my last season playing Chelan High School soccer. I just cant believe that I'm already a senior. I just can't wait to play to show my passion of soccer out on the field on my last season. I wished that on my last season that coach Jamie Richards could have stayed for my senior year. I'm feeling little bit nervous this season though because our coach is gone and we getting a new head coach for the soccer team. I still feel confident our team we can do good this season. This season I have set goals that are making it to state final four and have a good time with the team. The reason I want to make it to state its really obvious its my last season and not just for that reason but also I want to continue making a appearance in state tournament
The day the team got together and fought threw a tough battle facing pinnacle high school. It was our second home game and our record was 1-2. After all of the hard work we had put in over summer, we realized we could not lose, especially in front of our home crowd. At the beginning of the game we did our usual warm-ups, I have never felt so much adrenaline pushing threw my veins in my life. After the warm-ups the whole team got in a big huddle, we chanted a chant that will never be forgotten and one day make history for the pride. After the chant we got ready for kick-off, lined up and ready to go. The crowd started cheering at the first 2 seconds of the game “go pride go, go pride go”. This made the whole team nervous, not just because there was so many
In Amanda Ripley article she states that “sports and schools mixed with academics is that the message it sends is dishonest and shapes kids’ priorities”. I don’t agree with this stat meant because students in sports are more likely to have better grades then people who aren’t in school. I agree with Kevin Kniffin’s article witch states “ that sports offer formative and life-long lessons that stick with people who play sports”. I feel this way because I play sports at school and they have taught me life-long lessons that I will be able to use. Research shows that people who have played sports get better jobs, with better pay. Also get benefits that last a lifetime. Sports need to stay in school they help people in life and become a better student and person.
We have grown up together for so many years that you have become like a sister to me. You have always been a great friend and a great soccer player. Growing up soccer was something great that we happened to have in common, and these days no matter what the time of the year it is whether is was 40 degrees in February or 80 degrees in July, we could be outside practicing and having a great time. You have always been a player that I have looked up to. You have put so much hard work and dedication into soccer, and you have been a great team player, and all of that effort and hard work shows on the field. I am so proud of you for who you have become as a player and a person. Thank you for being a great friend, and a great player that I
Finally at 9 pm she got home. She was so worn out, it had been a tough day. Hannah never thought it would be possible to cry so much. She had to give several speeches and she cried during each one. She opened the door and her mom was on the couch. “Mom, are you crying?” Hannah asked. “It wasn’t an easy day. Lilli was always like a daughter to me.” Hannah’s mom replied. They talked till 10pm and then Hannah finally headed upstairs to go to bed. Hannah opened the bedroom door and turned on the light. Hannah was startled by a figure sitting on her bed. It turned and looked at Hannah. It was Lilli. “Lilli?” Hannah said so confused. “I watched you be buried! How are you here?” Hannah asked. Lilli just sat there and stared outside Hannah’s bedroom window. Hannah walked over and hugged Lilli. After what seemed like forever Lilli said “I couldn’t leave the earth without seeing you one more time. I needed to tell you it's not your fault I’m dead. It was my stupidity that killed me.” Tears were rolling down Lilli’s and Hannah’s faces. “Lilli I love you so much and want you to be here with me. I love you so much.” “I’ll never graduate, get married or have kids.” Lilli replied. “Hannah promise me you’ll not let my death affect the rest of your life? Do the things I never got to do and make sure you never text and drive.” Lilli said. “I promise!” Hannah said. Hannah and Lilli hugged one more time and then
