The Hound of the Baskerville Book vs.The Hound of the Baskerville Film Although the book The Hound of the Baskerville and the film The Hound of the Baskerville have very similar main ideas there are smaller details that are different but still have an effect on the mood and plot. For example, Selden, in the book, has a beard, “‘A beard! A beard! The man has a beard!...It’s not the baronet-- it is---why, it is my neighbour, the convict’”(Doyle 193). While in the film, they discover the convict Selden is dead by a tattoo on his hand. A small detail but important for the plot. The book and the movie have many similarities and differences, both big and small, throughout both with their characters and overall mood. The overall mood of the film …show more content…
He chases butterflies and studies the moor and it’s inhabitants. In the book mortimer is a very creepy person and studies humans and skulls. While in the film mortimer is a acts in a more serious manner while Stapleton is incredibly creepy, he asks would you have an objection to me running my finger along parietal fissure? Also he makes more points about Holmes’ skull (Attwood, The Hound of the Baskervilles). This ends up making Stapleton a very creepy character for the suspense of the movie. In the book Watson looks up to Holmes with great respect and takes his smallest compliments and appreciates them greatly. Holmes states with great pride, “It may be that you are not yourself luminous, but you are a conductor of light.” (Doyle 3). By saying this he means, Watson is such a fool that he makes Homles seem even smarter than he is. In the film, however, Watson stands up to Homles at the end when he saves Homles from drowning in the moor pit even though he got shot by stapleton (Attwood, The Hound of the Baskervilles). Also, when Watson finds out Holmes has been investigating the case after Holmes told him that Holmes had work to do in london, He was outraged. There is also other small details in the story that do not have a huge effect on the plot but still change it slightly. For example, Laura Lyon does not exist in the film, even though in the book
Comparing the book to the movie you can clearly tell what certain things are different. For example, Sydelle Pulaski worked for Mr. Westing in the movie but only talked over the intercom. This not only caused a lot of drama but more depth to the plot. Also, Crow didn’t go to jail but they did talk about most of the consequences of her going to jail. This made a little bit more serious and emotional instead of just letting it go.
Beowulf is a tale about a hero with much help on his side in both the movie and textbook. Although, they were both called Beowulf, the movie and textbook showed many differences. There were two different groups, called the Danes and the Geats. The Danes were attacked by Grendel, a gigantic monster, born of a greedy she-wolf. Although, the Geats were thought defective of in the textbook, they were not that bad after all.
The Hobbit (There and Back Again) is an absolutely wonderful classical book. In fact, it has been made into a three part movie series, two of which have already been released. The two movies that have been released will be what I am covering in this report.
“Bilbo is dreadfully frightened, but he had the sense to understand what had happened and to sneak behind a big barrel which held drink for the goblins…” (Tolkien 89 ). In this particular scene, In the novel, The Hobbit, written by, J. R. R. Tolkien, and the movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, directed by Peter Jackson, is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. In the story, he meets a wizard named Gandalf, who sends him on an adventure.
While there are some similarities between the novel and the movie, the movie is more appealing as it captures the reader’s attention and has a greater effect on them than the novel. The film has thrilling action, violence, horrid catastrophes and suspense. The exposition and presentation of the characters’ personalities throughout the film develop the mood which has a paramount effect on the audience making them realize how The Hound of Baskervilles is such an impressive quality
The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, happens to be one of the most famous detective stories. Many movie directors, including David Atwood, have manipulated this vintage story into a screenplay. In both of The Hound of the Baskervilles, the plot, setting, and characters are three aspects that are able to be compared and contrasted. Even though this recent cinema was based off of the fiction, the structure was somewhat disparate. First off, Mr. Sherlock Holmes was formally introduced in the novel since it included an exposition, but, conversely, the characters were not yet acquainted in the movie because it commenced at the hook.
Changing it has drastic impacts on generalizations. First of all, one difference is when they find out that the convict died, not Sir Henry. In the book, it says, “Beard, the man has a beard!” (Doyle, Conan p 191). On the other hand, in the movie, they find out because he had a tattoo (Atwood David). This would make people think that Selden is hostile in the movie. One thing that is the same is the big plan for Sir Henry. In the book, it states the entire plan and how it is going to go. He says, “Drive to Merripit House...tell him you are walking alone...go into the night.” (Doyle, Conan p 207). In the movie, he says practically the same words, but it does not go as planned. When it does not go as planned, there is a primary difference because the book says, “Homes breathed a prayer when he saw… no sign of injury.” (Doyle, Conan p 221-222)Yet, in the movie, the scene shows Sir Henry bit in the neck and bleeding out (Attwood David). This makes the people know that the climax is coming and puts a foreshadow on it. Therefore, the plot impacts the overall generalizations that people
In order to inherit Baskerville manor Mr.Stapleton uses the death of Hugo by the hounds to kill Sir Charles Baskerville to spread the myth- curse of hounds on the Baskervilles. Stapleton, “the villain, in every conceivable way (Doyle 239),” pretends to be lonely man who is in love with Mrs. Laura Lyons, a friend of Sir Charles, to lure Sir Charles so that he can kill him. This action displays manipulation used by men to fulfill their aspirations, without any regard to feelings of women. Even Holmes spends more time analyzing Beryl Stapleton’s perfume than he does trying to save her life. He is more interested in “demonstrating his own tremendous powers of deductive reasoning (Wilson 135)” than helping her.
Not everybody is into crime shows, but we all admit to love Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes is a most depicted character in fictitious and movie history. Supposing that we have both the movie version and the graphic novel version of Sherlock Holmes, we would clearly notice some differences and similarities between them. Those variances never disturb the ending of the story, but they may show less power and control to the story. Whereas movie version of Sherlock homes and book version of Sherlock homes are different as movie version of Sherlock Holmes was clearly seen as a smoker with a very rude nature, while in the graphic novel he barely smoked and that he had a respectful, understanding mind.
The movie cuts out scenes of the book to adapt to a more modern audience, therefore making the story shorter compared to the original and making it have a different feel. This concludes that although the stories bear some superficial similarities, including the plot and characters, and the differences between Doyle’s Hound of the Baskervilles and Atwood’s Hound of the Baskervilles are unmistakably clear.
Reading about a spectacular and dangerous journey, going to see a movie based off of that book, and seeing the many differences between the two is actually very normal. Directors are always changing the storyline of books because they try to intrigue viewers by giving them something new and improved. In the book and movie, The Hobbit, the author, J.R.R. Tolkien, gives us an amazing novel describing a little hobbits journey to becoming great and strong. Also, director of, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Peter Jackson, does a fabulous job creating a story, but he changes the storyline so much that they begin to change the entire idea and purpose behind it. In the movie and book, Bilbo Baggins, our hero, goes on an incredibly difficult
Have you ever read and watched King Author? Which option do you prefer? The book or the movie?. In my opinion, I think the book is better than the movie. Here are my 3 reason why the book is better than the movie.
While many books in the past have received the honor of being produced onto the big screen for all of audiences to see, no author has done it better than horror themed writer, Stephen King. Stephen King has written over “” novels and at least 200 short stories. Amongst all of his books, “” have been produced into film adaptations, he even has had some produced into television series’s such as Under the Dome. Some of King’s most noteworthy books, It and The Shining, have even been produced into a miniseries. A miniseries is similar to a television series in the sense that they appear in episodes. In this case, it essentially is just a very long movie broken into predetermined amount of episodes and then aired on television. Even though King’s
Sherlock Holmes sent Dr. Watson to accompany Sir Henry Baskerville to his estate to investigate the case and keep Sir Henry safe from any potential danger. By living with Sir Henry and acting as his protector, Watson and Sir Henry became friends. When Sir Henry travel alone in the moor, Watson always accompanied him, even when he sometimes felt uncomfortable doing so. Sir Henry openly shared his concerns and his feelings toward Ms. Stapleton with Dr. Watson, and Dr. Watson listened and responded to him. Sharing feelings and concerns demonstrates that friends must be honest and open toward one another and always be ready to listen or give
The Count of Monte Cristo is a great book. There are a lot of movies that are based on the book. The newest movie had a good amount of similarity with a lot of difference, mean while it did better than the book. Most of the time the people who make the movie will add things to make the movie better. This would good or bad it just depends on your perspective.
