In order to move from where they are, to where they want to be, you will need to be able to use a range of communication skills. These skills involve being able to communicate understanding, care and concern and the capacity to explain events, provide encouragement, allay fears, contain anxiety, and provide practical help and support in ways that help to build trust and confidence. REF This will form the focus of this essay.

DEFINE COMMUNICATION
Communication is a process where information is exchange through a medium where there is a sender, message, mode of transmission and a receiver and also how a message is used to make meanings within various context, cultures, channels and media. Koprowska (2007)

This will involve using a variety of approaches and styles appropriate to the audience you are addressing.
The act of communicating draws on verbal and no verbal forms. Verbal communications refers to any speaking, listening, observing, questioning, processing, analysing, and evaluating.
Non-verbal communication is defined by Oko and Reid as “anything other than words or utterances used to convey a message or meaning.” Examples are body language which includes posture, gestures, appearance and our expressions. Intrapersonal communication refers to communication one makes within themselves (Oko and Reid, 2012)

WHAT CAN AFFECT EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION?
For communication to be effective, hindrances or interferences needs to be reduced or removed if possible (Lishman, 2009). There are a lot potential hindrances to effective communication; with reference to the video, the environment, interruptions, overload of information with be considered.
A room was booked in the library but unfortunately it was glass walled meaning you are able to see people passing and they could see you. This was a distraction as focus was divided between the interviewee and those passing or sitting close to the glass wall.
