The relatively new companies are found in the industry of Internet Information Providers and Social Media. The act to bring employees over to a new location for the sole purpose of setting up the culture shows how much emphasis Facebook puts on culture. Another practice that Facebook uses to help define culture is to let employees have a say in the culture. They do this for example, by letting the employees paint the office walls at new locations and help give specific names to the conference rooms. These practices allow the employees to literally create the culture and build a sense of ownership (Facebook Innovated Company Culture). A final major point of emphasis to the Facebook culture is that there is no hierarchy within the organization. This helps to promote the sharing of ideas from all individuals. The overall summary of the Facebook culture shows that it is a fun fast paced organization developed to draw the most out of creative young minds. Twitters’ culture has many of the same points of Facebook in regards to a fun fast paced atmosphere devoted to the younger generation of work force. However, twitter does have a few differences as well. Twitter was voted the number one culture and work place environment by its employees in a 2014 poll by glassdoor.com (Twitter Tops all In Culture). Some of the reasons that this might be true are that employees receive benefits such as unlimited vacations, yoga while at work and free meals (twitter Tops all in culture). Many of these amenities that other Fortune 500 companies would deem cost
Facebook should transition their culture by training their current employees to accept and understand the different beliefs of each individual. The company should invest in educating their current employees to motivate and prepare their subordinates on strategies on how to take management positions. This could nourish communication between employees and will also aid the company to be a whole more knowledgeable within their own department, which will increase efficiency.
Companies usually tend to give attention to specific groups of people in which they take advantage of by attracting them to different trends that they could follow. Lopez mentions how Facebook and Twitter has control over social networking, stating that “Last year, over a billion people had Facebook accounts. Twitter routinely logs similar numbers. In short, each of these “services” draws half of all estimated internet users”(484). Looking at how Facebook and Twitter have made a great impact on society, Lopez discusses how these industries have taken advantage of the web to attract people by the idea of social media thus creating a gap between those who are involved in it and those who aren’t.
“Social media requires that business leaders start thinking like small-town shop owners. This means taking the long view and avoiding short-term benchmarks to gauge progress. It means allowing the personality, heart and soul of the people who run all levels of the business to show” (Vaynerchuk). Incorporating social media into one’s business plan, is no longer a mere suggestion, but rather a necessity for success. Success can be defined broadly as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. But, in business terms “success” will be used to measure and define how well a company is doing based on statistics, input, output and how quickly they are achieving their goals without compromising or jeopardizing their original
The scope of this project is to analyze similar or comparable organizations like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and compare their communication strategies on Facebook. The gathered and analyzed information will explain and help to understand the way these organizations have been performing their social media strategies and the different results obtained to stay ahead of business.
One of the main reasons Facebook is such a desirable place to work is because of its creative and progressive work environment. The company has done well creating a creative office culture and it is noticeable as soon as you walk through doors; the walls are covered with art and murals. The company feels having art as part of the work environment is important because its employees primarily deal with computer coding which is not very artistic. Facebook created an artist-in-residency program to expose the staff to creative ways of visioning and thinking, which creates an atmosphere that fosters positive and
To the average technologically advanced American, Twitter is one of the most visited social media sites. From a popularity contest standpoint, Twitter would be amongst the top winners; however, when evaluating Twitter from a business analytical aspect it might not be a lucrative business venture. The attractive attribute to Twitter Inc. is the fact the sites does not make any of its users pay. Twitter is designed to allow users to voice multiple thoughts, ideas, or share different information amongst the site’s visitor. Unlike Facebook, Twitters does not have multi-million dollar corporations using the site on a regular basis to market more potential users. Therefore, with a low revenue base and poor strategic development implementation

Every organization operates and functions in a different way. Rather it be the employees, the structure, or the products and services they provide, each organization will have their own unique way of performing tasks and reaching their goals. All organizations have a set of values and norms by which they go by, which sets them apart from other organizations. These values and norms are part of an organization’s culture. According to the textbook, organizational culture is “the set of shared values and norms that control organizational members’ interactions with each other and with suppliers, customers, and other people outside the organization” (pg. 179). Culture is one of the key ways an organization can increase its effectiveness. Organizational culture shapes and controls behavior within the organization. It influences how people respond to a situation and how they interpret the environment surrounding the organization. Therefore, an organization’s culture directly affects its performance and position within the competitive environment. With that being said, an organization with a well-established culture will tend to be more successful than an organization with a poor culture. Employees often spend 40 hours or more per week at their work place, which means organizational culture not only affects their work lives, but their personal lives as well. In attempt to better understand organizational culture, I will take a look at Chick-fil-A, a fast food restaurant
Facebook organization has a horizontal structure, which give each individual to empower with their ideas. This structure is the best for Facebook since it is based on ideas and their job is to keep users attracted to their site day to day (theofficialboard.com, 02/1) . As a very popular social networking site Facebook constantly require them to come up ways they can attract their users. Facebook organization understood early on if they want to stay in business they must keep their clients attracted they why their horizontal structures help them to come with ideas to keep their clients happy. They introduced online games for free like “Farmville or Cityville” so users can entertain themselves while they are in social networking site. If Facebook had a vertical structure it might be difficult to comes with new ideas because then company will be running by set of rules and guidelines which have very less room for middle lever or frontline management to invent ideas. Facebook gave its employees freedom to invent ideas and when they present it top level management can take these and decide which one is the best one they can use for the site. Facebook organization is one of the best companies to work for because of the benefits it’s give to their employees and freedom to express ideas (The
From King Street to Wall Street and from classrooms to boardrooms, there is a revolution happening and it is being driven by how we communicate with each other and by the unprecedented rise of what is commonly called “social media”. Ireland is the prime location of Twitter, Google and Facebook’s headquarters within Europe. For the purpose of this essay I will be identifying why it is important for startup businesses to gain more knowledge of using social media in order for them to be able to grow their business within the country and then to expand to other countries throughout the world. To be able to expand your audience on and off social media, a business must have a strong corporate identity in which people can identify.
One out of every nine people in the world use Facebook, with an estimated 700 billion minutes being spent every month on this application, it is interesting to note that over 2.5 million organizations have a Facebook presence in addition to their corporate websites. An estimated 250 million people access social media sites through their mobile devices. The impact that social media has on the daily lives of people is beyond “like” on Facebook or “re-tweet” on Twitter. Organizations are feeling the need to be present on not just one social media platform, however, on ensuring that they are “available and listening” to all at all times. Commenting on the role of social media in an interview to the Harvard Business Review, Howard Schlutz (CEO – Starbucks)
For many, getting use to speaking their mind in a limited amount of words is something that takes time to get use to. Many users speak passionately about what they want the world to hear from them, which forces them to post more than one post per Tweet in order for followers to understand. On a positive note, Twitter has no age restrictions, which means anyone can have an account and speak their mind freely. Famous individuals, along with many of the worlds most powerful leaders have active Twitter accounts that they use on a day to day basis. This can be both positive, and negative due to these individuals with power having a large group of followers. This can be beneficial to the powerful individual having a large audience to hear their message to the public. This can also be negative because their words can be taken out of context, and could result in a large audience tweeting back to them negatively (Straus, J). Along with individuals, many big cooperations also have accounts such as news providers, and chain food vendors. This is very beneficial for users due to them being able to receive the latest news on the go instead of getting home and watching the news late at night.

Doing business anywhere in the world has never been this easy, and staying in touch with your friends and family across the globe never felt this close. Social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and YouTube
The culture of an organization is what the people believe in and how they navigate issues in the organization on a day-to-day basis. It is the shared beliefs of employees, how things are done, as well as their values that makes up the culture (Reed and Bogardus, 2012).
