There has been many great men and women in America that has been an influence in the United States of America who strived to make the United States a better country. One of the many people who has been and continues to be one of the great American influential people is the sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln strove to do his duties to serve America during his presidency. He served our country during the time of conflict and kept our country from falling apart during the American Civil War. Also, Lincoln gave his life for what he believed in. The battle occurred in the state of Pennsylvania during the years of the 1860’s. This battle was a destructive and atrocious battle. But it was also a turning point for Lincoln and his troops. During this battle, there were many soldiers from the Union and the Confederate States that were lost. Slaves where then placed on a ship for as long as eight weeks headed to America. Slaves were piled into cramped spaces below the ship, and the heat and smell was over whelming. Once the ship landed slaves were sold to a slave owner. Slaves would have to make some hard decisions during their stay if they wanted freedom. For example poisoning their owner, suicide, or the slave would set the plantation on fire and then run away.
