How Did Alliances Cause Ww1

World War I was a tragic episode in European history. As with most wars, there were some causes that led to this event. A few of these causes were militarism, alliances, and imperialism. The first spark of the war was on June 28, 1914 when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand. The Austrian leaders demanded an apology from Serbia, they got upset and Russia said they would help Serbia. With no apology and the threat of Russia, on June 28 Austria-Hungary declared war on them; Russia in return declared war on Austria-Hungary. Germany declared war on Russia, France on both Germany and Austria-Hungary. Finally Britain had joined France and Russia, then all of Europe was at war.

World War 1 was a historical period in which the UK, France and the Russian Empire (known as the Triple Entente) went to war with Germany and Austria-Hungry. It lasted for 4 years spanning from July 29th, 1914 to November 11th, 1918. There was much miscommunication between nations, which in turn was cause for much bloodshed as it led to about 16 million deaths in total. Many historians note this War as the deadliest in world history. As the war progressed, many other nations started joining in and taking sides. Soon enough the war would spread over the world. The wars cause is believed to be due to the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria. Because of this, Austria- Hungry declared war on Serbia. One would lead to the other and we were left with a mess of each nation at war with each other, making up the World War.

With many factors leading to the origin of WWI, alliances contributed the most. This is because alliances dragged different countries into the war due to a binding agreement. As Serbia pulled in Russia and Austria-Hungary had Germany’s support, causing a domino effect with other allies. This means that when two countries are having a disagreement, then many other countries are having a disagreement with one another, due to their alliance. Starting with a conflict of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and wife Sofia of Austria Hungary, done by a Serbian civilian, created negative sparks between the two countries of Austria Hungary and Serbia. Although this conflict had been just between the two countries, it hauled over their alliances in need of support.

In 1915 Italy would switch sides which hurt Germany and Austria-Hungary because they lost an ally and they already had the millions of Russians with pitchforks to deal with. Russia had a special ethnic group with Serbia because they both had the Slavic race in there countries.

Furthermore, the British imperialism was driven chiefly by trade, the importation of raw materials and commercial sale of manufactured goods (J. Llewellyn, Jim Southey and Steve Thompson). The main advantages of imperialism, however, were economic. Britain wanted to trade special materials and essentially make profit of all these low priced items.

The largest factor contributed to the outbreak of World War I was Alliances. All four main reasons played a role, and they all connect to each other. Although alliances were what made the war officially happen, it empowered the countries by uniting them. It’s a law of defense, a signed treaty to have defense and more power added to a country that makes them stronger in the war. Which makes the enemy (imperialized country) increase envy’s feelings, therefor it makes them find anyway to add to their power just to win the battle/war.

World War I (or at the time known as “The Great War”) began in Europe but eventually included countries such as the United States and Japan. The war went from 1914 until 1918, it started soon after Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia upon the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. In what seemed as small tension between these two countries soon caused their allies to be drawn in this conflict. Although the assassination was merely the spark to the war, it was not main cause. The strong mindset and belief in nationalism and militarism along with alliances were what led to the war.

The alliance system allowed for a large at scale war to happen. Germany was brought into the war when its ally, Austria-Hungary, declared war on Serbia. Russia was allied with Serbia and France. Germany Executed the Schlieffen Plan in order to take out France. England was also allied with France but joined the war to Belgium, a Neutral country, that had been invaded by Germany. In conclusion all of these events would cause a bigger war to outbreak.
