Many stories come from different places. One great source to find very interesting stories is from Greek Mythology. Greek Mythology has created and made many stories about monsters and creatures, but the most interesting ones involve the Olympian Gods. There are all very famous, but their are 12 Gods that stand out the most. One of them is the Goddess Athena and she is very famous for her different actions. Although Athena is best known for being the goddess of wisdom, she is also known for her act of heroism and myth influence on the modern day world.
Even before she was born, Athena has been a powerful Goddess. When her mom, Metis was pregnant with Zeus's child, Zeus became very scared of his unborn child. He was told by an Oracle that if she were to be a boy, that "the boy would overthrow his father when he grew up"("Athena" Wickersham, n.p.), just like he had done to his father. So to change fate Zeus swallowed Metis whole so she wouldn't be able to give birth to their child. Later on, the God Hephaestus took his axe and split Zeus's head, and when he did a full grown Athena

In Athens there is many statues but the most "famous one dedicated to the goddess Athena" (Bird, n.p.). Athena is so admired that they have made a statue to resemble her. This statue is best known as The Parthenos. The Parthenos is so precious to them that they even built a Temple to protect it. This temple is also dedicated to Athena and it is known as the Temple of Athena Parthenos. Inside the Temple of Athena, The Parthenos is displayed with the goddess of Victory in her hand. Athena was the goddess of a multitude of things, however she was most known for being the goddess of wisdom and strategy. Another passage that caught my attention while reading stated, “An acropolis was usually a city-state’s most sacred district, containing temples dedicated to the city’s patron
Athena’s origins as Zeus’ daughter is its own fascinating tale, and she is also responsible for the success of many heroes, both mortal and immortal, but has also placed curses upon humans as punishment for their wrongdoings or insults towards her. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, war, and purity, and yet her miraculous birth is one of the most controversial topics about her. She is Zeus’ favorite daughter, and is technically descendant from him alone. There are many interpretations of the specifics of her birth, but the most agreed upon and commonly repeated idea in myth is that she was generated by Zeus himself.

In ancient Greece, around 500 B.C.E, the culture was revolving around gods and goddesses. The lifestyles and actions of the people of Greece had an interdependence with the common belief of Hellenism. By understanding that many Greeks looked to their gods and goddesses in most aspects of their life, we can better understand how Greek culture worked as a whole. This can be seen specifically in Athens Greece. In Athens they looked to the Goddess Athena in particular because she was their patron Goddess. During this time a sculptor, named Phidias, sculpted a grand statue called the Athena Parthenos. The Athena Parthenos was viewed as an actual incarnation of the Goddess Athena, and symbolize victory in wars that ultimately create peace and harmony.
Many Greek people valued strength and believed that it was the most important virtue of all. According to the article Athens was determined to be the most powerful, so for them to do that they decided to organize campaigns. In these campaigns they decided that building a grand building was the way to go; and in these buildings they would place grand statues. The Parthenon building was filled with statues one of them being of the greek goddess Athena. Athena was made of ivory and covered in gold; she also is depicted as having a spear and a shield in her hand. The sculptor created her this way to show that one of the main virtues was to be strong, and protect the city. The statue of Athena representing strength, was accompanied by a very strong military to protect the great structure
Another important contribution of the ancient Greeks to the modern world is art. In the United States, the Supreme Court, White House, and the Capitol Building are all highly influenced by Greek architecture. Most of the post offices are modeled after the Parthenon. The Parthenon is on top of the Acropolis in Athens, it is known for their grand marble flooring and columns, the Parthenon was a place of worship to the god Athena (doc. 7). The Parthenon is a symbol for ancient Greece, allowing for a backdrop of one of the most important cities when it comes to the history of humanity and the development of it. The Greeks were also very involved with sports. Many statues were created to show the beauty and grace of a Greek athlete, Track and Field were the most popular sports. The ancient Greeks were very fascinated with the human body (doc. 8). A great mind was the only thing equivalent to an attractive body. The Olympics first started in ancient Greece, having a similar situation to the Olympics today. Countries, but
Athena is mainly the goddess of wisdom and war. She is known for her ability to approach warfare strategically so that peace is kept as often as possible. She uses her wisdom to persuade others to come to an agreement rather than rage war. She gives courage to heroes and has assisted many on their quests. The temple was constructed to give a home to the statue of Athena, which is also made by Pheidias. The statue was dedicated to her for her contribution by the victories in the Persian Wars. In the Athena Parthenos created by Phidias and housed in the Parthenon of Athens, the female subject primarily exhibits the power of a goddess and various idiosyncrasies of the Ancient Greek culture. The picture that emerges is a standing, fully armed, and elaborately dresses Athena, holding a small statue of Nike in her outstretched right hand and cradling her spear with he left. The Statue of Athena is very representative of fertility not because of any particular content but because of the subject. In Greek mythology, Athena was supposedly born from the mind of Zeus. She represents a symbol of life and birth without any particular styles of the art that agree. Undeniably, she is also a goddess. She is capable of great power and her size commands respect. Her armor and weapons, phallic symbols, show that even as a female she can be revered as a goddess of power. Greek culture reveres its gods and goddesses and her power is derived from the status that she has gained from her wisdom and birthright. The fact that she, and all other female figures of Greece were clothed, while men were often nude, shows that women did not have as high a social status as men did. Nudes were
About everybody had reason to love Athena, and various sanctums and sanctuaries were inherent in her respect. Since she protected many cities, those areas fabricated extensive sanctuaries and committed them exclusively to Athena. " Two of the best-known of Athena's temples are the Parthenon and the Erechtheum, both of which were located atop the acropolis in Athens"(). The Parthenon housed a thirty-five-foot-high ivory-and-gold statue of Athena.
