Forrest Gump can be acquired through Amazon or any local video store. Price varies and it depends where you buy it. Amazon sells it for $3.99 to $13.99, depending whether it’s used or new. The 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s were decades that were overshadowed with a series of culminating events that forever altered American History. These series of events include: the escalation and ending of the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement, Cold War, Watergate Scandal, and the rise of a counterculture movement. All of these events can be perfectly depicted in Robert Zemeckis’s Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump was released in 1994, quickly becoming an instant sensation. The story shows several decades in the life of Forrest Gump, who witnessed and influenced some of the major events in American History.

Discussion
I believe Forrest Gump is a perfect example of three decades of American History. The movie not only addresses historical figures, but it also stresses the critical events that helped to shape and defined America today. I believe this movie provides a fun and simple way of introducing historical events and to further an understanding of American History; events such as the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, and the counterculture revolution that took place. A fun activity pertaining to this film, maybe to have the classroom be divided into groups and each group make a Forrest Gump film.
