"The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell" - Confucius. In other words, a person who knows what is just will seek rectitude, or what is right from their standpoint. However, one who understands "what will sell"only cares about gaining. In the book George Washington, Spymaster: How the Americans Outspied the British and Won the Revolutionary War, George Washington was an outstanding spy who wanted the Americans to be free. He was also a superior spy to the British. I can prove this because George was intelligent, sneaky, and he was carful. George Washington was a superior spy for many reasons. First, he was extremely intelligent, which helped him formulate complex battle plans. According to the text, "While …show more content…
Washington had made him an agent long before, ordering him to pose as a Tory and to stay with the main British forces as they moved across New Jersey. Washington, of course, arranged for Honeyman's "escape" after getting his report. In modern spy talk, Honeyman was a "sleeper," an agent under cover in enemy territory and awaiting orders, usually for a single, vital mission."-Page 46. This evidence proves that George Washington was intelligent because Washington was the one who planned HoneyMan's escape after he gave his report, which was extremely difficult because HoneyMan was being carefully guarded by Washington's army. Although George Washington was extremely intelligent, being sneaky also helped him out spy the British. The second reason why George Washington was a superior spy is because he was extremely sneaky. According to the text, "When the French soldiers invited Washington to dinner, he eagerly accepted, hoping that he could get some information. And he got it, by listening patiently and taking little sips of his wine while the soldiers "dosed themselves pretty plentifully."
As a young boy, Washington was full of morals and courtesy and he had an obsession over fame. Young George Washington was interested in many things, such as horseback riding, hunting, taking care of crops, and dancing. When Washington’s father died when he was eleven, Lawrence Washington played a great role model for George. Lawrence was part of the British army and married a refine rich lady named Anne Fairfax. Unfortunately, Lawrence died serving the army and George inherited his stepbrother’s house, in Mount Vernon, and his passion for being a soldier. Washington served in the British Army and fought with the British during the French and Indian War. He soon resigned when he was not accepted as a commissioner in the British Army.
Washington’s first spy was Nathan Hale, who failed to gather even one piece of information before he was caught and hanged by the British.
Hamilton believed his chance to improve his position was glory on battlefield until served as Washington aide. He fully employed his intelligence and incredible ability to handle various high level national issues and involve in diplomacy, as the aide of George Washington. Both Laurens and Lafayette revealed their remarkable military talent and fought in battlefront. As a spy during the America Revolution, Hercules Mulligan contributed his whole life to the victory of revolution. They wished that their achievement would inspire the new blood and their children would tell their story.
Washington first plans for a strategic defensive, thereby preserving his army. He avoids battle whenever possible and continues to draw the British into a prolonged war of attrition. It is this continuous maneuvering that gives Washington control of the flow of the War. For no matter where the British Army strikes, or what city they may take, or
Washington desperately needed to gain intelligence of General William Howe’s next plan of attack, however there were few who wanted to risk partaking in such a dishonorable task as spying. Hale was the first, and most well known, of the many spies to scout
Joining in Lawrences place ranked George up to major. Washington was eager to prove he was good enough and that perspective is what leads to what he means to us today. He was so eager to prove himself he joined in a dangerous mission to the Ohio territory in 1753. George was supposed to carry a warning message to the French from the governor . After Washington soon arrived he had to inform the governor that the French would not listen to the message and would not leave Ohio. After Washington did that he was promoted to the lieutenant colonel. Soon after he traveled back to the northern frontier were unpremeditated fighting resulted in the death of Joseph Jumonville, one of the French officers. Washington and his troop continued to work on a fort in Great Meadow, Pennsylvania. The French who were angry about the death of Jumonville decided that they were going to attack back. The surrounded George and his troop at the fort, but Washington could only surrender showing he would not fight and get his men killed. The French and Britain both wanted the Ohio territory which is what made the war known as the French and Indian war to Americans and the seven year war to the Britain start. After having to surrender the fort to the French George resigned his appointment with the Virginia regiment and bought his sister-in-law Annes Mount Vernon estate close to Alexandria, Virginia. Even though George bought the house he wanted to expand his military experience George
It is no doubt Washington was a powerful military strategist. He turned the tides of battle by deciding to carry out unorthodox attack options, such as taking the Delaware River for a surprise attack that ended up deciding the war (Source 2, ¶ 5). Before he was a great political leader, he learned the art of war by doing while serving in the French and Indian war. The sheer respect that he earned was rewarded with the title commander in chief of the American Army. His surprise attack across the Delaware River is thought to be the turning point of the war and many grand paintings have been drawn because
Have you ever wondered how our country got started or who our first president was? Our first president was George Washington and he was an important part of the start of our country. By examining the life of George Washington and his role in the war and the effects he had in the war it is clear that he had a big and important role in the beginning of our country and how it is now.
At the age of 23 years old Washington would become commander of the Virginia Regiment, ( Ellis, Joseph J, His Excellency, 24) although his men both more experienced and senior sought after him as their leader. His character and patriotism led directly to his selection as Commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Army. As commander-in-chief George led his army to a number of very important victories to include the capture of Boston with few defeats such as the trouncing of New York City. George lost many battles, with only one surrender, he continuously and persistently fought the British with unrelenting tactics he conspired the general strategy of the war. He oversaw the training and the organization of the army. Being unanimously elected upon Washington began his first term as President in 1789. He went on to serve for a second term ending his presidency in 1796. All that being said George Washington sounds like a stand up guy and that is why many Americans consider him to be a hero, but there are limits to the stories that are told.
George Washington held the position of president of president of the United States for two terms from 1789 until 1796. George Washington was not interested in leading the new country, but when the United States constitution was ratified in 1788. Americans wanted Washington to fill the post. Washington was admired and respected as a result of his success and integrity as the commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution and as the President of the Constitutional Convention. When the Electoral College unanimously elected George Washington as the first president of the new nation, he reluctantly accepted. Although, many Americans and historian view George Washington eight years of presidency a success, he was met with many
Through vivid descriptions of George Washington, I learned that he was not the best military leader. There were multiple times in the war where Washington was faced with difficult decisions, and proved to be very indecisive. Also, there were times where action needed to be taken, but he couldn’t decide what to do. Even though I learned Washington wasn’t as great as the history books explain him to be, it makes me respect him more to know that he, just like any other American, flawed.
Some people may wonder why George Washington was chosen to serve as a commander during this war. “In 1753, Lieutenant Governor Dinwiddie of Virginia ordered a young, ambitious 21-year old George Washington on mission deep into the Ohio Country to confront the French.”(“Mount Vernon”1) Because of his ambition to confront the French he was well respected all over and proved himself to be chosen as the commander for the war.
Although, it is bad to know that a leader can not show great honesty, sadly the pigs always did. While everyone was nervous about boxer, Squealer had an announcement to make, “Our great comrade boxer died in the hospital, I was with him in his last hours”(Orwell 64). Squealer was never with Boxer, because boxer was sold to a horse slaughter. The pigs can be described from this as dishonest and also the money used from boxer’s death was used by them to buy themselves whisky. With all of the success that George Washington had in his life, he could have done anything when, “As had happened after most upheavals, he could have used his success to make himself a dictator or even a king” (George). Even though Washington had the chance to become more powerful, he stood true to his word and was honest about making a country run by the people not one person. Leadership is a huge part of honesty, because honesty earns trust from people, which all leaders should
In conclusion, a person with good leadership, encouragement, and a lot of perseverance helps soldiers and others achieve many goals. Washington is the perfect man to become a leader of the Continental Army because of his personality. Also, something little could make a big impact on someone’s life, such as the wounded soldier. Further, endurance keeps everyone on the right track and it makes the problem seem easier for every person fighting in the war. Because of the little victories, the war is
In the United States the degrees by which a person can be charged with killing another person vary; the degrees of murder include first, second, and third degree murder, the definitions of which can vary in legal terms from state to state. These charges are considered to be legally separate from voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and justifiable homicide which each have their own definitions (Cole, Smith, & DeJong, 2014). Each type of murder, manslaughter and homicide is determined by intent and negligible behavior and each will be examined in this paper (Cole et al., 2014).
