George Washington affected the American society by becoming one of the most prestigious generals in the Continental Army and using his leadership to shape the American society.
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia. George was born into a fairly wealthy family that owned quite a lot of land. Augustine, George’s father, used this land to construct mills and produce tobacco. His family owned slaves, which would farm the agricultural land for them. Lawrence, George’s brother, died of tuberculosis in 1752. Once Lawrence died, George became the new owner of the plantation. George now owned 8,000 acres or more in land. Not only did this make him have a lot of land, but this make him one of the most wealthiest men across Virginia.

Washington had a very good charisma that made people highly respect his orders towards them. Not only was well liked, but the men knew they were in the best hands that the army could offer. One of the most dreadful situations a general could face is a harsh winter during war. Snow made transportation of supplies almost impossible. Many soldiers had little to no clothing to protect themselves from the winter climate. These harsh living standards did not halt most of the troops loyalty to Washington. (Lengel) Problems Washington faced in battles was that the British had more advanced weaponry and supplies. With George’s skills in tactical moves in battle, the resistance began to gain ground on the British. Moral was one of the main keys going into battle. Having men that are scared to die are worthless to a brutal general wanting to win a war. With George’s presence, the troops felt almost invisible and fought with all their heart. …show more content…
The determination of George’s army to beat the British was unbelievable. These men were fighting for a great cause unlike the British who just wanted fame, money, power, and land. After 6 long years of bloody battles, the resistance had come out victorious. Struggling through the harsh winters, and the tormenting from the British, it was finally over. He had turned into an absolute genius on the battlefield. (A&E) After finishing the war Washington was given the opportunity to become the 1st President of the United States. When Washington finished the war he still felt like there was even more to be done than before. This showed how much he actually was willing to help America and the people relying on him. Changing the office to be able to not fall apart George Washington was responsible for the creation of the Federal Government. He wanted to have a foundation of people to control the land they held. This would allow chaos within the lands to not be a problem. George appointed some of his most trustworthy officials to serve by his side. He wanted to have an organized system that would stand tall for many future generations of leaders that would hold the title of the President. He showed extreme amount of dedication to his country and the future leaders that would be in his shoes. After serving terms in office, he decided that it was time to retire and let someone else take his place.
He has first gained public notice when he went to persuade the French the leave the Ohio Valley as they threatened to drive out the English (“George Washington”). This began to what is known as the Seven Year’s French and Indian War. After this war, many taxes were created to pay for the debt of Britain Protection. New Englanders felt the taxes were an abuse of power and began an American Revolution at Lexington and Concord in which Washington joined the Continental Congress and was named the Commander in Chief of the Continental forces. He led the forces to a moral boosting victory at Valley Forge against the British. After the war, he became the most important man in the country (“George Washington”). Washington retired from the army and became elected the first president of the United States after the new government was formed. When he retired from office he had given his ‘Farewell Address’ speech that included two main priorities for the success of America: no political parties and no foreign affairs (Williams). Although tensions between the French and British were inevitable, Washington was vital in the victory of the later Revolutionary War from the military knowledge he gained from the Seven Year’s War. Washington was extremely influential; thus, without him the ratification of the Constitution would not have been possible. The checks and balances system would not have been created resulting
On February 22, 1732 Mary Ball Washington gave birth to her first son, who was later known as the great George Washington. George Washington was born, and raised in Virginia. His childhood held few moments of greatness, seeing that he was only one of the ten children in the family. George Washington’s parents grew tobacco, and sold timber for a living. He received most of his education from a boarding school, about thirty miles from this home. Although George Washington was not very religious he was a Christian, and helped out at a local churchyard school. At the age of twenty-one he was employed as the official surveyor of the country Culpeper, and owned more than 1500 acres of land which he paid for himself. After serving two terms in managing the affairs of the nation, George Washington died three years later at Mount Vernon of what physicians say was strep throat. According to George Washington “ American virtues have shifted over
When the war started to get really bad they made George Washington Commander-in-chief of the continental army, now they have a better chance of winning the war. They put him in this position because he was a noble, courageous, honest, and loving man so they knew he would be perfect for this position. He was also a delegate to the first continental congress from Virginia. They are group that had some of the first

George was born as the eldest son of this father’s second marriage on February 22, 1732. And during his childhood, George moved with his family to another plantation on a place called Epsewasson, not very far from the Potomac.
At the age of 23 years old Washington would become commander of the Virginia Regiment, ( Ellis, Joseph J, His Excellency, 24) although his men both more experienced and senior sought after him as their leader. His character and patriotism led directly to his selection as Commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Army. As commander-in-chief George led his army to a number of very important victories to include the capture of Boston with few defeats such as the trouncing of New York City. George lost many battles, with only one surrender, he continuously and persistently fought the British with unrelenting tactics he conspired the general strategy of the war. He oversaw the training and the organization of the army. Being unanimously elected upon Washington began his first term as President in 1789. He went on to serve for a second term ending his presidency in 1796. All that being said George Washington sounds like a stand up guy and that is why many Americans consider him to be a hero, but there are limits to the stories that are told.
In 1776, America had gained independence from Great Britain, all thanks to general and leader of the war, George Washington. In 1789, Thomas Jefferson wrote up the Constitution of the United States, which set the basis for rights and government structure of the country, with a president at the top. George Washington was elected as the first president unanimously.
Washington wasn’t always such a great leader. During the French and Indian War, Washington made a lot of mistakes such as his horrible embarrassment in result of the assassination of French Diplomat Jumonville. “When the musket smoke cleared, Ensign Joseph Coulon de Jumonville lay wounded, trying to explain to Washington that he was on a diplomatic mission. Before surrender was declared, Tanaghrisson struck the ambassador dead with a tomahawk to the head. Anticipating French retaliation, the young Virginian withdrew a few miles to a large meadow, where he hastily built a small, crude stockade and named it Fort Necessity. Here, Washington suffered his first and most humiliating defeat by French reinforcements on July 3, 1754. Washington signed the surrender document, which was written in French, and unknowingly accepted responsibility for the ambassador's death. The French published the document in major European capitals.” (Clash of Empires) (Q. Should I explain more about the quote before I go into the Battle of Trenton?) Even though Washington started out as not a very good leader, the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolution shows how Washington was able to learn from the Battle of Great Meadows and use his former mistakes to be victorious. This helped him to become a much better leader.
George Washington’s presidency had a great effect on America’s government at the time, and for many years to come. Our nation was starting out when he became president, so he had to make decisions that would impact America for the better or worse. He said to the citizens of Boston in 1789, “Your love of liberty, your respect for the laws, your habits of industry, and your practice of the moral and religious obligations, are the strongest claims to national and individual happiness, and they will, I trust, be firmly and lastingly established”. He wanted the citizens to have a say, or to know what is happening in their government. George Washington impacted the citizens of the United States because he was the Commander in Chief of the Continental
Washington was a pivotal figure in the early French and Indian war time. This battle started for Washington when he was selected as the British emissary for the French frontier. The British later accepted his offer probably because of his connection to the Ohio company. He was then sent to gather information about the French, and learn of their plans. After Washington returned from his long journey he had told the British crown everything he knew which then made the British determined to drive the French out of Ohio. He was then promoted to Lieutenant colonel. Washington had a very hard time during this war for multiple reasons. Supplies, food, and horses were getting scarce and a lot of the men didn't even know how to fight. Later on a specific
Washington's significance cannot be overstated. He led the Continental Army to victory over the British. He believed in a strong federal government which greatly influenced the nation during his eight years in office. He did not allow others to trap him as royalty. He worked on the principle of merit. His warning against foreign entanglements was heeded by future presidents. By declining a third term, he set up the precedent of a two-term limit.
Although this was a blow to his ego, it resulted in his development of leadership skills amongst his men. “Washington drilled his rough and often unsoldierly recruits, stationed them at Frontier posts, settled disputes, struggled to maintain order and discipline, labored to procure supplies and to get them transported, strove to have his men paid promptly and provided with shelter and medical care, sought support from the Virginia government, and kept it informed” (Nettels, Cornell University). The practice of training and providing for his soldiers while keeping them orderly and effective was a skill that would be of the utmost importance while commanding America’s first standing army. In addition to this, he also became politically active and began gaining governmental funds and support for his soldiers during the French and Indian war. His political savviness allowed him to later sway the continental Congress into supporting the continental army in a variety of ways.
