Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind woman to achieve so many goals in her life despite her disabilities. Keller was considered to be a leading figure of the 20th century. She is best known for all her accomplishments. Keller was the most powerful blind and deaf advocate of her time. She transformed the way others viewed handicapped people. How many times in life have you struggled but got through a difficult time? That is called perseverance. The definition of perseverance is “Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.” Synonyms are persistence and determination. It originated from the latin word perseverare. Right now the world has been filled with natural disasters, from hurricanes to wildfires. Everyone that this affected has been forced to persevere through it because there is not much that they have the ability to do besides staying strong. In all of the nonfiction literature we have read there were many different examples of perseverance from many different people. I decided to choose three. For my first example Melba Pattillo Beals from “Warriors Don’t Cry”. There is numerous examples of the Little Rock 9 and her doing something despite difficulty. For the second example of perseverance I chose Maya Angelou. Through her life there were countless times that she was faced adversity and still achieved success. My third example is Earl Simmons (DMX) from the book “E.A.R.L”. He went through a tough time at almost all time growing up and he never gave up and achieved success. Perseverance creates success; therefore, when you stick through something you can accomplish what you want.
she was also one of the bravest people there are, and she never gave up a step of the way.
had a wide-range perspective. She fought for what she believed in, never giving up, dying for her
She had the courage to show women that they can be more than just a housewife. She went out and helped Lewis and Clark and she took care of her child at the same time. She was sick and kidnapped yet still managed to be a good person and change the world for women.
There comes a time in life when perseverance shows one’s true potential. The story“Unbroken” written by Laura Hillenbrand shows legendary runner Louie Zamperini and showed how he truly represented that. Throughout this story it displays what the true meaning of perseverance; whether, it’s something as little as staying committed to track or fighting in World War Two and trying to fight for life even if there seems like there’s nothing to fight for. If someone is commited no matter the time or the difficulty that doesn’t just show perseverance, but it shows one’s true ability to fight for and try for something they want to accomplish.
Jane Addams. She lived with the individuals that she wanted to help and she did not pass judgement. She went to back for what she believed in and fought for the right of many people. She was also a Nobel Prize Winner which speaks volume for her many accomplishments. Along with other great women, they dedicated their life and time to improve the living conditions of many people and to provide education. Child labor was very big in Jane Addams era and she worked hard to eliminate child labor. Her work played a very important part in helping women to grow into careers such as nursing, social work, and civil
If most people heard the name Helen Keller, they would think of that poor girl who was deaf and blind. They would think of her and remember the stories they heard about how she was taught how to communicate by a teacher named Anne Sullivan. That is probably all they would think about her. How she was world famous because of how she learned to read through Braille, letters pressed into her hand, and how she eventually learned to speak, however, this is not all there is to Helen Keller.
She was strong because she believed in herself. She got to the underground reel road all by herself. She lead thousands of people to freedom. she was not scared of getting caught by the owner.
Has anyone ever advocated for you or anything you respect? Although Jackie Robinson, Melba Patillo Beals, and Helen Keller advocated for different things, the three did make life changing turning points to change their countries for the better. They all had one thing in common despite their differences; perseverance. But what actions of perseverance did they commit to?
Kewauna Lema used perseverance, passion, and strength to achieve success in challenging classes. Firstly, Kewauna used perseverance in class. For example, Tough, Author of How Children Succeed, shares that when Kewauna entered a difficult class room she sat in the front rather than the back with the other African Americans (Tough). Thus, Kewauna used perseverance to sit in front of the class room. Secondly, Kewauna used passion to get the help she needed. For Instance, Tough reports that Kewauna would stay after hours for extra help and had a tutor help her in English. Therefore, Kewauna used passion to succeed. Thirdly, Kewauna’s used all her strength to never give
Perseverance means to never stop trying, never give up. The person I chose was Jackie Robinson. But the most important one is Anne Frank because she is the one we did a whole segment on. She is the main person, On to the essay.
that she was able to acquire, she was able to care for the wounded that answered to her
There are many people in this world that we consider great humanitarians. Mother Teresa was a unique individual that stood out of the crowd because of her involvement in helping the sick, poor and dying. She spent everyday of her adulthood caring for people that were in need by setting up the Missionary of Charity along with many homes for the people she cared for. Mother Teresa won many awards throughout her lifetime for her dedication to care for people in need. It is no wonder that Mother Teresa won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and is considered a saint.

As an infant she could see and hear, but by the age of two, due to an illness, she no longer could. Helen Keller is considered to be a hero among many people.
