How Did John Lennon Impact On Society

John F. Kennedy was the 35th president. He was president during a rough time in America's history. He had fought for civil rights, he had to deal with the Cuban missile crisis, and had to go through some of the cold war before he was assassinated. John F. Kennedy made a positive impact on society by helping the civil rights movement, keeping the country at peace with Cuba, and if he hadn’t been assassinated our society would be better than it is now.

John Lennon was a famous singer-songwriter. John co-founded the Beatles, a big English rock band. The Beatles members included, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Some members from the Beatles are still alive today. On December 8th, 1980 John Lennon was assassinated.

Elvis Presley was a musician, singer, and actor. He changed everything with his dancing, attitude, and music. Presley was born on January 8, 1935. He lived in Tupelo, Mississippi and moved to Memphis, Tennessee when he was 13 years old in 1948. The Presley family went to a catholic church and that is where Elvis got his inspiration for music and got his first guitar at eleven.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8,1935. He was the only son of a couple and their names were Gladys and Vernon Presley. He was supposed to be a twin, but his brother was born dead. Elvis impacted history by changing music to what it is now and he impacted people’s life to pursue what they believe to do. He opened the door to Rock and Roll and he was referred to as, “ The King of Rock and Roll.”

Kennedy had a great impact on the United States largely due to his humble attitude depicted in his inauguration when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.” John, nicknamed Jack as a child, was trained to work hard in everything he did from early on in his life. During his time serving in the military, he learned leadership skills and grew an extreme pride for his country. After the war, Kennedy began his career in politics with three terms in the House of Representatives. He rapidly climbed the political scale and became popular among many citizens. Elvis Presley It was in the year 1955, that Elvis Presley had been known/heard of. Surprisingly, he had an impact on the Music industry and became know as the “King of Rock and Roll”. Elvis Presley had made his appearance known in an interesting way- playing the music genre of the blues. That had just been the beginning of his career. His music had attracted many people to him, especially the younger generation (teens).

One specific guy he inspired was Lennon a 16 year old. John Lennon was the one who formed The Beatles. However his music career started with a band called Quarry Men, named after his high school. John Lennon was performing at a church picnic on July 6, 1957 where he met Paul McCartney in Liverpool. Not much later Lennon and McCartney were writing many songs together including “The One After 909” and created a successful partnership in musical history. The band played a variety of music including folk, jazz, and blues. McCartney introduced George Harrison to Lennon and he was granted an audition and then was later added to the band. All 3 of them would travel to Hamburg, Germany for their performances. The first recording the band made was by Buddy Holly. Quarry Men was also influenced by Buddy Holly’s band the Crickets so the band changed their name to The Beatles. The last member of the band that was added was Ringo Starr also known as Richard Starkey. John Winston Lennon was born on October 9th 1941, during a German air raid on World War II in England. His parents separated when he was four years old and he was raised strictly by his aunt. Though his mother still visited him often and taught him how to play the banjo and piano, she also bought him his first guitar. He was a prankster and enjoyed getting in trouble as a child, though he enjoyed drawing as well. John’s school master thought he should go to art school since he didn’t get good grades but had artistic talent. At age sixteen, John was inspired to start his own group by Elvis Presley’s explosion onto the rock music scene. John decided to name it “Quarry Men” named after his school. Soon he met Paul McCartney at a church and invited him to join his group and eventually formed the most successful songwriting partnership in music history with McCartney. John’s friend Holly, had a band named The Crickets and John liked it so he decided he wanted to name his band after a insect as well so he changed their name to the Beatles, but with a A.

If you have not heard of the world-famous Beatles then you have been living under a rock for the past century. The idea behind this legendary music group is John Lennon. However the world shook in terror and sadness on a chilly day in December when he was assassinated in front of his New York City apartment complex by a deranged fan. (History.com 1) John Lennon’s assassination was unjust because he was an impactful peace activist and an influential artist; however some may say he was a threat to the idea of going to war with Vietnam. The Beatles were a British band that was very popular in the 1960’s. This band consisted of 4 people: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and last but not least: Ringo Starr (my personal favorite). Lennon and McCartney performed together in Liverpool in 1957 (Liverpool is a city in northwest England). The band had an affection for American rock and roll music. Lennon and McCartney first started the band and they are self-taught musicians with the fact that Lennon learned the guitar and McCartney being a bassist, they were also singers.

The Beatles is the first to become a symbol of the era of the name of the band, their songs affect a generation of people's life style and attitude of life. As one of the most influential bands in the history of pop music, they have made great contributions to the development of rock and roll. After the Beatles, the band members also according to their own development direction to develop their own career, Harrison formed the All Things Must Pass band, Lennon and his wife continued running his own band (Plastic Ono Band), McCartney Band on the Run music team received a great success in business and critics. In the music industry continued his glory, and the most difficult is Starr, he just helped former teammates in early 70s, to do some work

In elementary school, he played guitar and harmonica, always enjoying music (Burlingame, John Lennon: Imagine 32). The first song he ever learned was “That’ll be the Day” by Buddy Holly (Burlingame, John Lennon: Imagine 33). As music took over his life, John got distracted and his aunt told him that he could not make a living by playing guitar (Burlingame, John Lennon: Imagine 36). When John was teenager, he started writing and composing music (Canale 1) as well as drawing and writing books. He wrote two books, “In His Own Write” and “A Spaniard in the Works” (Watson 2). Similarly to Lennon, another musician got their inspiration at a young age. Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington to Wendy and Don Cobain (Burlingame, Kurt Cobain: Oh Well… 11). He came from a musical family and was introduced to music at an early age. When he was three years old, he wrote his first song, “Corn on the Cops.” When he started playing guitar, he held it backwards because he was left-handed, and played popular Beatles’ songs like “Hey Jude” (Burlingame, Kurt Cobain: Oh Well… 12). He was fourteen years old when he received his first electric guitar (Burlingame, Kurt Cobain: Oh Well… 18). Like John, Kurt was involved with the visual arts and enjoyed drawing, whittling, and painting (Burlingame, Kurt Cobain: Oh Well… 13). The two musicians’ background allowed them to prosper in the future.

The first verse of the song begins with challenging people to imagine: “Imagine there’s no heaven / It’s easy if you try / No hell below us / Above us, only sky / Imagine all the people living for today.” Lennon starts out by removing thoughts of religion by removing heaven and hell. Religion is a hotly debated topic of whether one religion is right or wrong compared to another . In the past and present day, religion has divided people in society because of the controversy behind it. Imagining “no religion” would eliminate people’s question of the afterlife and essentially allow them to live peacefully in the moment, not fighting over what happens after life itself. He says we must “try ” a little. Religion is taught to most people while growing up;

Next, Lennon asked his audience to imagine a united world with no borders, or religions, thing that could avoid wars and conflicts and lead the humanity to live in peace, the last verse was about imagining what people would be if they share everything, if they share the world. He ended up by wishing that one day the world will know

In the first verse of the song, Lennon tells us how important it is for us to live in the present moment rather than worry about what is waiting for us upon our death. Even though it is normal to worry about our death, Lennon urges us to pay more attention to the sky above us rather than heaven or hell. This is especially true for those who lose out on the present moment worrying about the future.
