The Renaissance period started in the 14th century, and it didn’t end until the late 17th century. It was an intellectual movement that all started in Italy, and then eventually spread its way through out Europe. The word Renaissance itself means “rebirth.” This movement made a huge impact on the world by pulling us out of the Medieval Era. It was the rediscovery of classical antiquity. Tons of great writers, inventers, and artist flourished during this time. Leonardo da Vinci is one of very many who have had a huge impact during this Era. He his often referred to as a painter, but Da Vinci was much more. He painted The Last Supper, which is one of the most famous paintings there has ever been. The Last Supper was meant to portray the reaction of the disciples when Jesus said one of them would betray him. Leonardo was able to capture all twelve disciples with different facial expressions. The Last Supper has been studied countless times and still marvels people today. He is mostly known for the famous painting of The Mona Lisa. To this day, no one can be certain who the lady in the painting is. It is speculated that The Mona Lisa was not a woman at all, but a man in a dress. It was left a huge mystery, that people still question to this day. He never delivered The Mona Lisa to the person that commissioned him to paint it. It was said that The Mona Lisa was suppose to be perfect. He kept the painting till the day he died. The Mona Lisa is now one of the most protected artifacts in the world. The Last Supper and The Mona Lisa are just two out of several of the paintings that have impacted the world. His paintings were different from anything any had ever seen.
