Many great people contributed to the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Two of the more famous of them were Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr.; both had huge parts in the struggle for racial equality, but attacked the problem in very different ways. Martin Luther King Jr. had a better approach and was more influential because he gave African-Americans a sense of optimism and fought in a civil manner. Mr. King’s speeches were one of the reasons he was so prominent as a civil rights leader, because his words conveyed hope and faith to the people.
