How Did Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream Speech

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on the foot of the Lincoln Memorial to a standing crowd of 200,000 in 1963.1

The reason why Martin Luther King Jr wrote this speech and the impact it had on many in the past and also in today’s society is why his writing is an effective piece. The speech I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King is one of the most outstanding examples for use of rhetorical means in text. The power of this text is hidden in its comprehensibility and the imaginary used by the speaker. The speech sounds melodically due to the appropriate choice of rhetorical techniques, and it has a highly persuasive effect. From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial more than two score years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King electrified America with his momentous "I Have a Dream" speech. Aimed at the entire nation, King’s main purpose in this speech was to convince his audience to demand racial justice towards the mistreated African Americans and to stand up together for the rights afforded to all under the Constitution. To further convey this purpose more effectively, King cleverly makes use of the rhetorical devices — ethos, pathos and logos — using figurative language such as metaphors and repetition as well as various other techniques e.g. organization, parallel construction and choice of title.

King lead a march on Washington D.C. on August twenty-eight, 1965. This is when he gave his famous “I have a dream” speech. The speech was very powerful and became Kings most noteworthy speech. The basic idea was that King hoped that one day the children of this country will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. The march was for equal jobs and freedom for everybody and to help the Civil Rights Act make it through congress. More than 200,00 people that were both black and white showed up to march and to listen to the speakers. This was a very successful event and influenced a lot of policy in the government (“March”).

King went against all racism, not just for blacks. King believed God created all men equal, blacks and whites. During the time King made a famous speech. Kings Speech was well known as the "I Have A Dream," Speech. In his speech, he announced he wanted all blacks to be free from racism. He stood in front of 250,00 people while giving his "I Have A Dream" Speech. Blacks and whites who watched his speech cheered for King. The speech took place at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington DC, August 28, 1963. The speech was an amazing part of history. It changed the lives of everyone today. It stood out that people started to go against and rebel against certain laws of racism towards blacks.

On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I have a dream’ saying that he believes everyone deserves the same rights and the same color regardless of their color. His dream speech changed the way that we treat and view people, he told us that it is okay to have big dreams. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his speech to about 250,000 people affecting all of their lives that people say it is a day that they will never forget.

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech to a massive group of civil rights marchers in Washington D.C, known as the “I Have a Dream” Speech. His speech was to prove to the Federal Government that they should take more action on racial equality.

Wait … did you say that blacks are being treated poorly because of their skin color? Yes, that is what Martin Luther King said after all. His speech “I Have a Dream” sums it all up that blacks were being treated poorly, but they weren’t going to let that happen any longer. Their thoughts consisted of a bright day, full of light, as they would have white neighbors, but be treated equally. Race segregation is not okay, and should have been addressed earlier on which is why I chose this speech to work with.

History began on August 28, 1963. Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. said his “I have a dream” speech that day in front of 250,000 people. Many people believed that the Civil Right Bill should be passed. People should should not be judged by the color of their or how they look. People need to be treated equally and no one should be favored because of where they are from. Change at that time was well needed because America was too separated instead of trying to come together as one they were going against each other. This shows that the best decision was to have the Civil Rights Act passed so that would help bring justice to this country, based on your skin color or where you're from should not have you labeled to be treated differently.

This speech is credited with mobilizing supporters of desegregation and prompted the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Martin started off his speech by reading from a piece of paper, every few seconds lowering his head to read a few lines. His voice so powerful and he spoke in an evocative language while recognizing that Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, to declare “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free." “But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles

The famous “I Have A Dream” speech was given 53 years ago, by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the March on Washington. King was a civil rights activist and marched King wanted equality for everyone no matter the race. This speech was VERY POWERFUL to later generations basically leading up to why are we so bitter and judgmental! Race-centered conflicts in several U.S. cities have led to the strongest calls for policy reforms since the turbulent civil rights era of the 1960s. Propelled largely by videos of violent police confrontations with African-Americans, protesters have taken to the streets in Chicago, New York and other cities demanding changes in police tactics.

Did you know that African-American compose 40% of the prison population, because of racism because approximately all the time white people commit the same crime and are excused for it (Ben and Jerry’s)? However, I will be informing you about how we can fix this and how we can make Martin Luther King Jr's I have a dream speech come to alive. As Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s showed us in his life work to eliminate racism, we can act to bring peacefully demonstrate a love for humanity. Three actions we can take to eliminate the violence of racism are working together, changing and helping them to live better lives, and by just talking about it.

Dr. King wrote the "I have a dream speech" in hope that people would change their point of view on people of color. He doesn't want people judging each other on the color of their skin or the way they act. Martin Luther King Jr didn't want white people to think black people were animals or savages for we are a kind and gentle race. Dr. King always looked for the good that could come out of this country even though many of us don’t see eye to eye, he knew if his words hit the right people then this country will soon become great.
