There are some famous inventors that I think have changed America’s history because of their inventions. Eli Whitney inventing the cotton gin, Nikola Tesla inventing the first AC motor, and Elijah McCoy inventing the lubricator for steam engines.
Nikola Tesla was originally from Croatia but then moved to the United States in 1884. He there created the first ever Air Conditioner motor in New York also where he met Thomas Edison his future rival. One day Nikola Tesla was walking somewhere with sand and then his idea popped into his head. He was thinking about a brushless Air Conditioner making the first sketches of its rotating electromagnets in the sand. During 1887 and 1888 Nikola Tesla’s work caught the attention of George Westinghouse, the …show more content…

He worked there a year, impressing Edison with his diligence and ingenuity. At one point Edison told Nikola Tesla he would pay $50,000 for an improved design for his DC dynamos. After months of experimentation, Nikola Tesla presented a solution and asked for the money. Edison demurred, saying, “Nikola Tesla you don’t understand our American humor.” Nikola Tesla quit soon after.
Eli Whitney was an American inventor who created the cotton gin and pushed the “interchangeable parts” mode of production. Eli Whitney studied at Yale before going on to invent the cotton gin, a device that highly streamlined the process of extracting fiber from cotton seeds. Wit the patent for his device being widely pirated, Whitney struggles to earn any recompense for his invention. He later went on the pioneer “interchangeable parts” systems of production. During Eli Whitney’s early years Eli Whitney became an expert at making nails from a device of his own invention. He later crafted canes and ladies’ hat pins, recognizing opportunity when it arose. Eli Whitney graduated Yale College in 1792, …show more content…

During his early life the McCoys were fugitive slaves who had escaped from Kentucky to Canada by the Underground Railroad. In 1847, he large family returned to the United States, settling in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Beginning at a young age, Elijah McCoy showed a strong interest in mechanics. Since he showed such a strong interest his parents arranged for him to travel to Scotland at the age of 15 for an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering. He returned to Michigan after becoming certified as a mechanical engineer. Although due to racial barriers Elijah McCoy was unable to find work as an engineer in the United States. The skilled professional positions were not available for African Americans at the time, regardless of their training or background. Elijah McCoy accepted the position of a fireman and oiler for the Michigan Central Railroad. That was the line of work that he developed his first major inventions. After studying the inefficiencies inherent in the existing system of oiling axles, Elijah McCoy invented a lubricating cup that distributed oil evenly over the engine’s moving parts. Elijah McCoy continued to refine his devices, receiving nearly 60 patents over the course of his life. Although most of his inventions dealt with lubrication systems, he also developed designs for an ironing board, a lawn sprinkler, and other machines. In 1920, toward the end of his life, McCoy formed the Elijah
