Throughout history, many people have risen above society to make a point. They have envisioned a new idea or an alteration to existing lifestyles. These individuals have left their legacy and influence on society. Sadly, many of these individuals have been cut short in their journey because of their ideas and influence. Assassinations are reoccurring events that take the lives of many prominent people, regardless of their positive or negative impact. In the late 1950s, George Lincoln Rockwell established the American Nazi Party, an organization that would impact the United States in a negative way. His father was a cartoonist so the young Rockwell developed these skills even throughout college. During his time at Brown University as a philosophy major, Rockwell began to adopt ideas that would shape his thoughts into what he would be known for in history. Ideas about how all men are not created equal and many more began developing in Rockwell’s mind. At Brown, he practiced creating cartoons for the university’s humor magazine, a form of propaganda that he would use after the establishment of the American Nazi Party. Therefore, Rockwell’s time at Brown could be described as the stepping stones for an organized party in the future. Rockwell joined the Navy after dropping out of Brown, and he was also a pilot during World War 1; therefore, can be considered a veteran. His presence in the war is most likely another factor that caused him to develop Socialist ideas and to start the American Nazi party. They accomplished many victories in influencing the public about White superiority, and unity amongst White Americans. During Martin Luther King Junior’s “I Have a Dream” speech, Rockwell was present with a couple other party members with signs advocating white power (Williams). As quoted by Lois Betty, “ people around the world were shocked by footage from Charlottesville, where hundreds of young white nationalists, neo-Nazis and other far-right activists chanted ‘You will not replace us’ and ‘Jews will not replace us’”. Even though Rockwell’s death weakened the party to begin with, the belief he was able to establish lives on to this day. Even in recent times, there are people who are still respecting George Lincoln Rockwell and admiring his legacy.
