How Did Shakespeare Influence The Renaissance

“What a piece of work is man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving, how express and admirable in action…” (Shakespeare, Hamlet). A famous poet once wrote this line for one of his most famous plays, and his name was William Shakespeare . While the majority of people know of this man, they many not realize that every day they could be using or doing something that has been either created or influenced by Shakespeare. Some phrases Shakespeare has created contain examples such as wild goose chase, love is blind, good riddance, dead as a doornail, and many more. It is hard to imagine, all of these were made up so he could have the correct form for iambic pentameter. Shakespeare was a very influential person in the Renaissance when it comes to literature. When it comes to art and inventing, there are many great inventors and artists, but “The distinctiveness of [Shakespeare’s] comedies [they] assisted in the growth of the Renaissance era and the rebirth of literature and entertainment during this era.” (Amber). After all it is not hard to hear that “Many people regarded [Shakespeare] as the greatest playwright of all time” (Beck). With Shakespeare being such a famous playwright it’s not surprising that many people have heard, read or seen many of his plays. One thing that might be as commonly know is that Shakespeare inspired some very famous authors, and helped them create some best selling books and classics. Some examples are The Winter of our Discontent by John Steinbeck and something Wicked this Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.
