The period between the 18-19th century was a period of rapid mass development of industrialisation in Britain. It was the period where there was noticeable development in industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, metal production, transportation and communication. The Industrial Revolution was acknowledged by historians as one of the turning points in history and the main contributor to the Making of The Modern World. The Industrial Revolution change every aspect of people and our lifestyles. The revolution had impacted Britain and its people there in significant ways, both having its advantages and disadvantages.

The Industrialisation Revolution was an introduction of machines to Britain, as the development of machines grew Britain had to find a way to power the machines. Fossil fuels such as coal, petrol and gas were common in Britain, therefore factory owners turned to these resources and replaced natural energy sources such as water and wind. The dependent of fossil fuels led to the introduced of new causes of pollution to Britain, air, land and water pollution increased expeditiously. It wasn't until mid-20th century that people started noticing the effects of burning fossil fuels had on the environment. Land and other areas were damaged by the disposition of industrial waste, people found that the waste was affecting the water supply and the food chain as the runoff had contaminated rivers and waterways. Source 1a although a painting gives historians the overall fact about how pollution was during that time, in the painting the observer could see the smoke protruding from the factories. Using the painting historians could see how bad pollution with the colours of smoke, amount of smoke and how far the smoke reached. A big factor of the revolution was the fact that people started expressing their thoughts and concerns about certain things they were not pleased about, the industrialization brought about social revolution and social thinkers. Historians however believed that the social revolution began towards the end of the Industrial revolution. Referring to the disadvantaging impacts the industrial revolution made on Britain, we are aware that the workers were thoroughly exploited and as a result of this workers started demanding better lifestyles, working conditions and political rights. Workers then started to form organizations and cooperatives themselves in which they could benefit from without the need of having high social status. Having form trade unions workers started to threatened mill owners by not working, although there was ‘The Combination Act in 1799 to 1800’, which made it illegal to protesters to demand mill owners for increased wages or shorter working hours. After multiple protests, demands and debate the trade unions was legalised in 1825. This impacted the British people as, there were now allowed to speak up and demand for things without being afraid of punishment and in 1833 slavery was banned throughout Britain.
