The Industrial Revolution created products through 175 through 1850 in Great Britain with many wealth. Due to Great Britain’s wealth, The Industrial Revolution started to invent many working machines which led Great Britain to become very wealthy. Also because of Great Britain’s resources, The Industrial Revolution was able to produce products, and were able to exchange goods with other countries. The effects of The Industrial Revolution were wealth, population, and punishments, which did not lead to no progress. The Industrial Revolution led to child labor, working conditions, and living conditions & public health, which demonstrates that it did not lead to progress for society because the factory owners taking advantage of the workers and …show more content…
According to Frank Forrest, “In reality they were no regular hours, masters and managers did with us as they liked. The clocks in the factories were often put forward in the morning and back at night”. Therefore the factory owners made the workers work for how long they wanted the workers to, the factory owners would change the clocks. According to John Brown, “he saw her whirled round and round with the shaft - he heard the bones of her arms, legs, thighs, etc. successively snap asunder, crushed, seemingly, to atoms, as the machinery whirled her round, and drew tighter her body within the works, her blood was scattered over the frame and streamed upon the floor, her head appeared dashed to pieces - at last, her mangled body was jammed in so fast, between the shafts and the floor, the water being low and the wheels off her gear, it stopped the man shaft. Therefore the machine left the girl quite lifeless. All her bones were found broken and her head dreadfully crushed. The effect of Child Labor overall proves that the Industrial Revolution did not lead to progress because instead of sending the kids to school for their education the kids went to work at factories under unsafe …show more content…
According to the cartoon “ In response to the multiple Cholera outbreaks”, the picture shows how there are many sick people drinking off one water tap. Therefore if the people are sick then other people are going to get sick as well because all the people are drinking off one water tap which means they aren't cleaning it and the sickness is staying on the water tap. According to this official report, “The wife’s face was dirty, and her tangled hair hung over her eyes. Her cap was ill washed and slovenly put on. Her whole dress was very untidy, and looked dirty and slatternly; everything about her seemed wretched and neglected and she seemed very discontented”. So the wife looked dirty and was working under bad and unsafe conditions. Living conditions and public health did not lead to progress therefore workers got sick because they would share things not knowing the other people were sick and workers worked in places that would make them sick as
Not only were the workers not treated well, the building was also very unsanitary and unsafe. They worked on top of each other in cramped spaces where there were just lines and lines of sewing machines. The exit doors were locked in order to stop the workers from leaving to go to the bathroom. Only the foreman had the keys to unlock the doors. There were four elevators that had access to the factory floors but only one of them were in working condition. In order to get to the working elevator, the workers had to go down a long narrow hallway. This elevator was only able to hold 12 people at a time. Factory floors had no sprinkler system and the entire building only had one fire escape that was not big enough for all of the people in
If a child were to work at the mill they would start out as young as ten years old. Most of the children that did work at the mill would got to school for about 6 hours then they would go to work for 7 or so hours. Also many of the women that did work at the mill their husbands had died so they had to provide for their children and they typically had more than two children. It was very rough at the mill, the air was filled with fumes and lint and it would get stuck in the worker's lungs and they would get really sick. It was terrible for the children to because they didn’t have a well developed immune system so they would get sick a lot quicker and they would get
The Industrial Revolution began in Great in late 1700’s. Where many inventions increased the manufactured goods. Soon, people all over the country were turning to more complex machines that could perform tasks faster and more efficiently than human labor alone. In the Industrial Revolution there were many impacts and effects. Both short term and long term positives and with that always comes negatives. The short term negatives included child labor, poor working conditions, untreated human waste, deaths and hygiene issues. Also short term positives such as less deaths at birth, more produced goods and increased life expectancy. Along with short term effects also came long term impacts. The negative long terms impacts include population growth,
The Industrial Revolution started in the mid-1700s and rapidly spread industrialization to most of Europe. Because of the revolution, the iron production in Great Britain had increased by 518 times. Despite the positive outcomes of the factories, factory workers were exposed to dangerous conditions, including unprotected machines, which led to many unintended injuries and even death. Moreover, the factories took time away from school, leaving the workers without higher level knowledge and skills. The Industrial Revolution increased the overall standard of living of the lower class, however the poor working conditions and hindered education negated the gain of working in the factories.
Most factories had issues with diseases like scarlet fever, measles, small poxs, and many more. These diseases were usually brought by immigrants coming from other countries looking for work. Immigrants usually acquired these diseases from spending a few weeks on cramped ships with lack of nutrition, spoiled food, bad ventilation, and improper waste disposal. When the diseases reached factory workers they quickly spread.
To begin, there are many dangerous working conditions. During this time, there were no safety regulations that factories had to follow. This meant that factories did not have to take safety precautions and give workers things like safety glasses. This led to many deaths, sickness, or disease( History Notes). The rate of death for children working in the mill is twice as high as adults (Doc. 2).
Working conditions during this time were poor and dangerous. Unlike today there weren’t as many safety regulations and procedures that workers and business had to follow in order to prevent injuries. When people were injured on the job they didn’t receive workmen’s compensation like they do today, they usually lost their job to someone who could still work. Upton Sinclair the author of the book “The Jungle” talked about
In factories and workplaces harsh conditions were a big problem, including 14+ hours a day, 6 day work weeks, little to no breaks, many were killed or injured. People like Samuel Gompers wanted labor unions to be put in place to protect citizens in the workplace and give them rights in there as well. One reason unsafe working conditions were brought to attention of the people was a fire in the “Triangle Shirt Waist Factory.” This was a fire where something flammable was thrown into the garbage and caught on fire, after all the women working noticed smoke rising they ran to fire exits noticing they were locked from the outside leaving hundreds unable to escape. Few were able to get down by elevator and get out safely and many were caught inside the room.
Employees were often in dangerous working zones or conditions and there were not many laws to protect their wellbeing and their safety. Workers during this time employees like the workers that worked in steel mills had very long work days, longer than most citizens in the United States. Many times the workers in the steel mill would lose fingers just working in the mill. Also at this time, there was a lot of child labor going
The Industrial Revolution was a time of advancement in technology which influenced the future of processing goods. It began in Great Britain during the late 18th century and spread to Belgium, France, Western Italy, Russia, and the United States after 1815. The Industrial Revolution introduced the spinning jenny, steam engine, steel process, and many more inventions revolutionizing a more efficient method. It changed countries’ economies, shifting them from an agricultural based economy to manufacturing based. Although the Industrial Revolution brought a future of innovation, it, overall, had many negative aspects. By 1900, the Industrial Revolution affected the common man and woman poorly due to the desire for cheaper labor exposing children
Workers were marginalized by the poor working conditions they had. A lot of the time the workers
During the Industrial Revolution, from 1760 to 1850, work life for children dramatically changed. Children had always helped on farms or assisted in making textiles at home. However, as life became more urban and industrial there were fewer domestic job opportunities. This forced many children from working on their family farm to working in unsafe factory conditions.
The Industrial Revolution brought so many advances in the beginning of the 18th century and spread throughout the world. Even though we’ve become modernized by the cause of the Industrial Revolution, we’ve encountered so many hardships, creating instability in society around the world. This advancement at the time has created the rise of capitalism, affected labor among the people and lead to horrible living conditions in the early days of the Industrial Revolution.
Industrialization changed the nature of work in 3 ways that are crucial to the american economy and history. The first way early industrialization changed the work force was children. Before factories children had chores to do around the house or on the farm as a form of work but industrialization used children as a reliable workforce in factories. Children were often splashed with water and other things to keep them awake during the long work shifts. Kids who were younger than the age of ten were basically used as slave labor.
The Industrial Revolution which took place in the 18th century, brought significant changes to society. It marked the heavy reliance on technological innovations primarily in England. Key developments in India and in China helped facilitate the wave of industrialism in Britain. Although the Industrial Revolution brought forth an increased volume of products and improved means of technology, the consequences are far greater. The deindustrialization of India and China, the dire effects of child labor, the struggles of the proletariat, and the development of a stark wealth gap between the East and the West, all arise from the Industrial Revolution. As Arnold Pacey, Michael Sadler, Karl Marx, and Friedrich Engels argue, it was only by the negative exploitation of resources and human labor was Europe able to prosper during the Industrial Revolution.
