There are many question centered on the origin of the Olympic games. How did they start? Where did they begin? Why were they created? These are questions that some people still ask today. Lets begin with “How did they start?” The Olympic games began in 776 BC. A cook from a nearby city won a 600-foot long stadium race thus some how started the Ancient Olympics. Many historians believe that this was the only event at the time. The Olympics took place in a city known as Olympia, which was an ancient Greek city. In this time, war and arguments were set aside in order to put full focus on the athletes who desperately wanted to prove them selves to their Empire. These Olympics would take place every four years. Originally, the Olympic games were created as a religious festival. Many events like racing and fighting were added at different times as the Olympic games progressed throughout the years. This great event that took place every four years, would inspire new athletes to want to compete as well. The amount of glory and fame one would obtain after wining the Olympic games was numerous and had no end. This in fact inspired the athletes of that time as well. In the end, The Ancient Olympics allowed Greeks to push for the top while competing in friendly competition. With this said the ancient Greek Olympics was truly an amazing event that took place many years ago. Although the Olympics have changed, the Greeks still had set the stage. The Olympics is still a great sporting event that brings the best of the best athletes together. So next time you watch the Olympic games on TV just remember how it started and what an amazing event it was and still is
