In “Creation of the Sun and Moon”, Jordan Clark describes the deities roles in the birth of the Moon and Sun and how the Earth became inhabited by the human race. I chose this myth because I found the story behind the creation of the Sun and Moon to be compelling as the goddess of water Maguayan and the god of the sky Kaptan, scattered the remains of their grandchildren in remembrance of the life they once possessed, now remembered for the light they shine down onto humanity. “And so it was the golden Liadlao who became the sun and the copper Libulan, the moon, while Lisuga’s pieces of silver were turned into the stars of heaven” (Clark). Even though the three grandchildren were following their power hungry brother; Likalibutan in his plan to gain more power by attacking Kaptan, their grandparents still forgave and wept for their grandchildren. The gods are both vengeful and forgiving as Kaplan punished his grandchildren for their actions, while afterwards, the children’s remains were gifted with a blinding light that continues to be gazed upon with wonder by both the immortals and mortals alike. Another example of how wrathful Kaptan can be upon arrogant and power-mongering mortals is shown in his actions towards the mortal, Pandaguan, who claimed to be able to conquer the gods. “Then Kaptan, hearing this, struck Pandaguan with a small lightning bolt, for he did not wish to kill him but merely to teach him a lesson” (Clark). This quote teaches the lesson that to question
the planets fall around the Sun. Each of these objects balances the Sun 's force of gravity
Jupiter is the largest and the fastest spinning planet in our solar system. The storm on Jupiter known as the Great Red Spot could swallow up the entire Earth. Jupiter is made primarily of hydrogen and helium and has no solid surface. Its atmosphere resembles that of the sun. Stathopoulus (2000 – 2011), “ Sixteen moons have been identified, with Ganymede noted as the largest - it is bigger than both Mercury and Pluto” (Facts about Jupiter, para. 9).
On which planet would you weigh the most? The least? Why? I would weigh the most on Jupiter because the surface gravity on that planet is over 2 times the amount on Earth. I would weigh the least on Mercury because the surface gravity there is less than half of Earth’s surface gravity.
| 20. In _________ models, the Sun is assumed as the center of the solar system. Answer
13) When we say a star “moves” on a H-R diagram we are not saying that it is physically moving from one place to another, we are saying that it is transitioning from one stage of its evolutionary life to another. For example we might say it is moving from pre-main sequence to main sequence. This means that the star has moves from an early stage in its life to the middle stage of its life. It has physically stayed in the same place in space.
M The needs of people are not more important than the needs of animals and the planet.
In the story “Stop the Sun” by Gary Paulsen the theme is some people have problems that sometimes we can’t understand because it isn’t something that can’t be understood, but the knowledge that we obtain when we ask questions is more beneficial than when we don’t try to seek understanding. The story “Stop the Sun” by Gary Paulsen is about a boy named Terry that has a father and sometimes his father’s “eyes go away,”. This worries Terry and causes him to want to know more about what’s happening to his Father. He looks for answers to his questions everywhere because he justs wants to understand.
Mercury which is the planet that is closest to the sun is the first planet I will discuss. Mercury is the smallest of the inner
The ultimate question that arises when talking about the Norse inhabitants of Greenland is what happened to them. After 500 years of fairly successful residence, why did they disappear? Could it be that conflict with Inuit populations drove them to extinction, or did a series of harsh winters and unsustainable practices finally convince them to leave? Likely, it was a combination of many factors over time that made Greenland uninhabitable for even the hardiest Viking, so that eventually even the relatively pleasant Eastern Settlement was abandoned, roughly 100 years after the Western Settlement’s end (McAnany and Yoffee 2010). Archaeological research and historical documents combined with chemical and climatic analyses all work to piece together an image of the circumstances surrounding Norse habitation of Greenland. Given the evidence, or
The narration of the film In the Heat of the Sun is bathed in masculinity. The story basically follow the male protagonist and narrator, Ma Xiaojun, his gang of male friends, and the masculine world they inhabit. There are only three notable exceptions to a film that consists almost entirely of men and boys: the protagonist 's nameless mother, and two girls his age: Yu Beipei and Mi Lan. Both girls are amongst his cohort, and are therefore the main focus of the whole gang’s adolescent desire. However, the overwhelming masculinity of the movie leaves little room for the exploration of the female characters’ identities and personalities. In fact, perhaps unintentionally, the film In the Heat of the Sun objectifies the women, and reveals how
The other children hate Margot because they don’t believe her, they don’t believe that the sun is going to come out. William especially because he’s the one who convinces all the kids that Margot’s theories are ridiculous and that there is no way that the sun is really going to come out because they don’t remember. Margot remembers though, she tries to explain what the sun is like to the other kids but they won’t listen and William doesn’t even let her finish. I think William thinks she’s bragging in a way. Margot knows what sun feels like because she moved to Venus when she was four but the other kids had been there all their lives and the last time the sun had come out they were too young to possibly remember what the experience was like.
Humans live on a small planet in a tiny part of a vast universe. This part of the universe is called the solar system, and is dominated by a single brilliant star-the sun. The solar system is the earth’s neighbourhood and the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the Earth’s neighbours. They all have the same stars in the sky and orbit the same sun.
Edward Albee’s one act play about four couples’ day at the beach and the ensuing clash of personalities never made it to Broadway and thus never received much critical attention. This series of flowing vignettes is undoubtedly a tragicomedy because it “causes strong feelings of sadness or regret” as much as it “is meant to make people laugh” (Merriam-Webster). Finding the Sun discusses topics such as extra-marital affairs, it has a quick and good natured structure, and an ending where each character meets a sense of closure within their given circumstances. The play balances on the line between tragedy and comedy the entire time before delivering an ending that affects each individual character.
Judging by the position of the sun it was only about 6 in the morning when I awoke to the smell of burning cloth. Ethan, one of the guys that was on the plane with us and stayed in the room next to ours, came in seconds after I woke up. He burst through the door, throwing it open so hard it hit the wall and bounced back so hard it nearly hit him in the face. He rushed to the side of our bed that Sara was on in large, graceful strides. He was only a year older than me, 16, and was calm even while screaming to get us up. I couldn’t understand his frantic screaming to get us up so he finally calmed down and told me what had happened, there was indeed a fire, I had been right. A fire had started on the second floor. A lamp had been the first
