Our history was altered during the twentieth century through warfare that has occurred worldwide. Starting with the first major war in 1914, First World War, new technological advances involving the strategy of warfare have been introduced, thus altering its effects on society. People kill and get killed defending the beliefs of their nation, religion, family, and political views. The governments of several countries changed during the twentieth century due to the outcomes of warfare. Some of the advances have led to safer, more precise warfare, while others have been destructive to the existence of many species, Homo sapiens included. The advances that are continuing to come out could permanently alter the way the world functions. Actions
War has been a inseparable part of the human experience. Well for most of our specie’s existence at least. It was always a way to secure your interests when diplomacy hits a brick wall. However throughout the 20th century all that began to change. In this essay I will aim to explain how the perspective of war changed for the individual, the state and globally in the 20th century through reasons such as the democratization, globalization and the rise of more advanced weapons. This research question links with the topic “changing communities” as war affects the smallest community which in my option is the family to the largest which is the global community. The main body paragraphs
In the play The Crucible there was a lot of round characters. A round character is a major character in a work of fiction that encounters conflict and is transformed by it. A round character that stuck out to me was Reverend Hale. Reverend Hale had obvious changes towards the court system as the play progressed.
How did the war create an opportunity to create social change, and how did the reaction to women in wartime manufacturing affect the social standards of women in the workplace?
In war there is death, but where in death does it change to become what is known today as modern warfare? Was it a landmark like the first use of a tool or tactic, or is it during a time as a society? The impactfulness of guns changed the ways wars were fought still even today, but the tanks and airplanes changed it on even a larger aspect. The other side of the coin is that the perspective of war has changed through the ages. It changed from an all out barbaric massacre of people, to a gentlemanly and honorable act, to a cold and cruel mechanized meat grinder. Where did death change to become modern?
Being born into one of the most leading families in Athens, Pericles was brought up in a very well off family. His father Xanthippus (meaning yellow horse) was known for his heroism in the Persian War also as a wealthy politician, which would have helped stem Pericles interested in politics from a young age having his father so heavily involved in politics. His mother, Agariste was from a culturally powerful Alcmaeondiae family which was also very wealthy. Due to his family’s wealth they could afford to educate Pericles and feed his growing interest in education, in fields such as Politics and Philosophy and music. Because of his high education he is known as one of the
War has always been a brutal event that has been present in throughout our entire history. It is the age-old problem solver from society to society, and generally associated with weapons, blood, and violence. As the world continued to develop, both technologically and economically, the nature of war also changed. Guns have become more efficient, bombs more powerful, and strategies more calculated. The rise of mass production and industrialization had a massive impact on the war, specifically World War I as new technology resulted mass casualties and a more streamlined war style.
What is war without weapons and tactics? One of the more innovative tacticians of the twentieth century was Adolf Hitler. The tactics that he developed were innovative to help his armies surprise the enemy. Also, Hitler secretly increased the industry in Germany because he needed weapons to support the upcoming war. Hitler employed different war tactics through better weapon designs and sharper field tactics, which allowed him to take an early advantage during World War II.
The progress made in the 20th century is staggering. Advancements in science, medicine and technology alone have brought incalculable benefits to human beings. Yet on the darker side, the 20th century was also the most violent time of human history. Two world wars, the massacres of Stalin, the Holocaust of Hitler, and many other such events killed over hundreds of millions of people and inflicted extreme suffering on hundreds of millions more that will make this period in time and period that will be remembered forever.
When looking at all four sources, the proposition that warfare caused hardship for civilians is definitely true as it destroyed housing structures along with daily items and other services.
War was and is a threatening idea in our society. Lives are lost. Families are heartbroken. And people around the world still haven’t grasped the concept that war causes more war. Yet, several wars in our past led to something greater. Three wars that have had a major impact on the way we live are the Civil War, World War 1 and World War 2.
Total world peace may not be such a radical expectation for the next century 's generations. A world filled with cooperation and progressivism from all individuals is arguably just around the corner as humans approach such a strange and peaceful times. As history unfolds there is a substantial drop in the trendiness of wanting to kill one another for resources, political differences and proving a point; which can all also be attributed to the increase in population in relation the lowering percentages of actual casualties in any given event. Even with the several wars that have unfolded during the 21st century, the rise in democracy, globalization, and the general lack of appeal for atrocities has resulted in human history 's most peaceful era.
The post-war world was one of complete ruin. More than 40 million Europeans died and at least 25 million of them were civilians that had been killed in bomb raids, concentration camps, and during famine or starvation. Cities, towns, and villages on the home fronts were destroyed and nothing remained of many homes. Because of all of the distress, thousands of people all turned to their governments for assistance. Unfortunately for almost everyone in Europe and Japan, their governments had all failed. Thus, a lot of their problems were rightfully blamed on their governments. After all, Hitler and Mussolini had both run their countries and fascist parties into the ground. Due to the fact that no one could find solutions in their own country’s
The Post-WWII period. While the world reels from the war, Americans indulge in new technologies such as the TV, washing machine, and suburban housing. However, the tension between the USA and the USSR mounts. The nuclear arms race makes the world fear what might become of the world. causes widespread fear of the future. Even now, 70 years after WWII, humans still fear the atomic bomb and the many consequences of the bombs being detonated. Would past humans have ever thought that one day they would create their own means of destruction? In "Pity this busy monster, manunkind," E.E. Cummings mocks humans for having become destructors physically, socially, and spiritually because of their infatuation with advancing technology.
I have chosen to write about question one for this week’s discussion. There was a multitude of changes in the 20th century. Personally, it is hard to say if revolutionary changes or evolutionary changes would have the longest lasting effect. However, I do believe both had a significant effect. During the global depression many people were affected. To me it seems that the depression had a tremendous effect on the arts and music. Having a limited amount of money seemed to bring out emotions people had not experienced or felt before as did the World Wars. People seemed to use music and art as an outlet to express themselves in new ways. Many changes happened quickly others happened slowly. It was like a polyrhythm, they were independent, but
Technology at times have been referred to as inventions which create values for human beings and help them in living a better lifestyle, but no one would have ever thought technology would have even played an important role in war. The way wars are conducted have changed leaps and bounds from early 1800s to modern days. Industrial revolution and technologies have transformed how the warfare is conducted. Although technology might have helped opponents of the war to showcase their strengths during warfare and win wars, however certain reforms used in warfare had its effects (positive or negative) on the civilian citizens too.
