How Did World War 1 Affect Society

World war one was the biggest war anyone had ever seen, known as the war to end all wars 2.8 million Americans were drafted to go and fight. Seven countries were the major powers but 32 countries were involved in the war. The biggest turning point in the war was America joining and it caused what had since been a brutal war with no clear winning side to become an uneven fight, resulting in the win of the Allied Forces. When we joined the war many acts and laws were passed, some were questionable such as the espionage act. World War one had a huge impact on the United States economically and socially, the impact was positive in some ways but mostly negative. First of all the war caused many men to be drafted and that left large amounts of jobs to be filled, resulting in women's role in society to be greatly improved. One poster depicts a man with his daughter on his lap asking him “daddy what'd you do to help the great war?” Our own government was trying to guilt people into going to war. I think this picture sort of touches upon the attitude towards joining the war at the time which was joining the war was a “manly” thing to do. The government also used propaganda to make the war seem like an adventure not a bloodbath. Propaganda wasn't the only issue with the government during the war they also created the espionage act and threw lots of Americans with German heritage in jail. In the act it also prevented people from talking bad about the war. It was seen as dangerous to be against the war and it was “un american”. This line from the espionage act states “Whoever shall byword or act oppose the cause of the United States therein shall be punished.” This line restricts our first amendment right of freedom of
