A person might say that MOOCs will hurt traditional higher education institutions. But I think that I could make some valid points that MOOCs will only compliment higher education. In 2012 Massive Open Online Courses were viewed as the liberator and a humanitarian helper for the marginalized in higher education. Institutions like Harvard, M.I.T., and Stanford wanted to reach the marginalized students and bring down cost. The middle class was shrinking under crushing college debt. Educators and student believed that MOOCs would create a pathway to obtain free high quality education from well respected institutions. MOOCs are still far from reaching many rural places to assist those that may want to participate in becoming educated. But I say …show more content…
They assist with providing original thinking and fresh perspectives on old challenges. Distance isn’t the factor that it used to be. Infrastructure continues to change its model proving more and more access. People must understand change and adapt to it. Change has a purpose and MOOCs are going to change how educated learners communicate and gather knowledge and understanding. Many college educated students have become aware of MOOCs and they are using them as professional development tools to resolve emerging challenges. The New Living Translation of the Bible says, “Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do develop good judgment.” (Proverbs 4:7) Online education is influencing peer-to-peer, colleague-to-colleague, and group-to-group networks through discussion forums, shared communication, and community building. They like having the opportunity to come up to the board and draw, write, or “click” the button to complete a learning activity. All my recent research has increased my confidence that I want to try blended learning with my students. Time is such a valuable resource and I want to use it much better in teaching. That research as made me aware of videos show school districts and teachers using blended learning or flipping the classroom with good success. I recall hearing at least 4 teachers say that they were attaining testing scores that were the highest in their State. That is the kind to teaching results that I would like to
In the midst of the holiday season, Target shoppers were shocked in December 2013 when the news came out, 40 million Target credit cards had been stolen (Krebs, 2013f) by accessing data on point of sale (POS) systems (Krebs, 2014b). Target later revised that number to include private data for 70 million customers (Target, 2014). The breach transpired between November 27 and December 15th 2014 (Clark, 2014). Over 11 GB of data was stolen (Poulin, 2014). Target missed internal alerts and found out about the breach when they were contacted by the Department of Justice (Riley, Elgin, Lawrence & Matlack, 2014).
The news came out not long ago that Joy-Anna Duggar is courting. This 19-year-old is someone that the family always says is a joy to be around and that her name fits her perfect. Radar Online was able to find out how much her new boyfriend Austin Forsyth knows about the Duggar's past scandal with her brother Josh. Austin has been friends with Joy-Anna for fifteen years so you would think his entire family would know a lot, but it turns out that is not the case at all.
Even with these disadvantages, Massive Open Online Courses are still a positive aspect for the current and future online students because with the free and easily accessible MOOCS classes, perspective online students have an alternative to education and it’s free! In order for the online universities to stay competitive, it is likely that MOOCS may force online universities to significantly lower online courses that are for credit (Casement, 2013).
From 600 BCE to 600 BC, many empires across the globe saw expansive and explosive growth. Many other empires collapsed during this time. What separated those that were on the way up and those on the way down was their ability to control their empires. While there are many examples of collapsing empires being unable to exert control of their territories, the examples center around 3 general reasons. These 3 reasons of collapse are economic, political and environmental.
The Internet has also changed the way students learn. Online classes are more readily available compared to several years ago. By means of online classes more adult students pursuing higher education are able to make that dream become a reality. Students attending online classes offer different viewpoints with fellow students and are able to communicate without feeling that a correct answer needs to be given.
I am looking forward to find a way to get my students involves with technology from home and to come more prepared for in-depth learning instead of just basic knowledge. Currently, I am just taking this blended class to see what it is like to teach a blended classroom.
One of the great things about online education is that it gives students in rural areas the same education as those in large urban areas. This is because of many things but most importantly it is because online systems allow for more courses then a small town would be able to provide (Orgill, Jason, and Douglas Hervey). Having more courses is important because it gives students the opportunity to take deep dives into areas that they are very interested in. This is an opportunity that many students that live in rural areas don't get because there school simply does not have enough students to provide those courses. Giving students in rural areas the same course opportunities as those in urban areas is just one of the reasons online education is so important.
you might be suprised” they care suppose to revolutionize how higher ed is. there goal was to engage students in the debate that bugs them. They wanted to know how they judge the value of a college degree and weigh it against its rising price tags. Students can use online classes like Khan Academy, to learn more concepts. Face to face education matters alot now. Students are more worried about technology than they are about education. most people are so stuck to there phones they never to get off of it. students want to engage with there professors alot more than they do. Alot of professors think students should do online
MOOC providers have created video lectures, readings, and problem sets that seek to modify, and in some cases, replace entirely the need for a physical campus to complete a degree in higher education. The most notable MOOCs, Coursera, Udacity, and edX, emerged in 2012, “The Year of the MOOC” according to the New York Times, and have since attracted millions of registered students. Coursera and Udacity are both for-profit spin-offs from Stanford that offer a wide variety of courses taught by professors from some of the most prestigious universities in the world, such as Stanford itself, Princeton, the University of Michigan, and the University of Toronto. edX, on the other hand, is a non-profit partnership of MIT, Harvard, and Berkeley that offers both a platform that universities can customize to create their own courses, as well as a range of courses that are pre-developed by edX. In many cases, MOOCs are offered for free, incentivizing students to expand their knowledge with essentially nothing to lose. In other instances, when MOOCs have partnered with educational institutions to supplement or replace a physical classroom education, the MOOCs are offered for credit and at a lower cost than an in-person education.
According to Barbara Means, the study’s lead author and an educational psychologist at SRI International, online education ultimate goal, is to provide learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms. That enables more “learning by doing,” which many students find more engaging and useful.
These trends of technology, collaboration, and blended learning should be celebrated and supported by the education community and the students within it. As technology advances and curriculums become more diverse, schools need to evolve with the changing society. If that means adding more group projects or leaving the pen and paper behind, so be it because “learning is not a spectator sport” (D. Blocher). Everyone must be engaged in the education and supportive of its changes. I fully expect my future classes at Bridgewater College to include and celebrate the teachers who “think outside the
Prediction: Higher Education sees an increase in partnerships between universities and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
People can take online courses these days. It is a chance for most people to get online courses on their own place. Students have the capacity to look over many diverse programs that would help them with their needs. Nowadays, most of the programs are available online from each department like business, management, and information technology. Additionally, students can browse different sorts of degree. The online courses have lower costs since they do not buy textbooks; they can downloads all assignments and all different materials that are required for their classes. Another benefit of these online classes is saving time since students do not have to attend classes, so they might have more time to do their assignments and study. Online classes evacuate the anxiety by permitting learners to study when it is helpful for most learners would like to study at different time. Likewise, students at schools have to take their exams and quizzes on the day their instructor planned for , but
Learning is more than just receiving information. Traditionally learning was to be in campus, where students would interact with one a another, there were no other ways for learners to get educated beside going to the classroom and listening to the instructor. Nowadays the Internet has brought different ways for people to receive information, such as getting education and degrees online. A few years ago online education was never thinkable, and yet it has become to reality and it is widely expanding with popularity. Online education is a type of educational instruction that delivers learning to individuals to their own homes, and it is getting very popular among nontraditional student and others. Individuals prefer online education
