In the film, Man of Steel, Jonathan Kent is adamant about not wanting Clark to reveal his powers. Although there were some instances where it seemed Clark’s abilities were need, he felt that his son’s well-being was more important. Jonathan Kent was right to keep Clark from revealing his powers to the world, for the following reasons: he anticipated the reactions people would have, wanted what was best for his son, and Jonathan knew that Clark was not ready to be exposed to the world Jonathan anticipated the reactions people would have to Clark’s abilities. He was aware that some people would react with fear of his power. This was evident, even when Superman/Clark tried to surrender the U.S. government, they had weapons pointed at him, put him in handcuffs, and were going to try to tranquilize him. Clark’s mother also mentions that when they first found Clark, they had expected the government to show up soon after. This is evidence that both Jonathan and Martha were very well aware of how people respond to Clark’s power. …show more content…
He wanted his son to have a normal life, despite who he really was. At one point he mentioned Clark becoming a farmer, as the Kent family had been doing for generations. It is likely he wanted this because he was aware of the type of life his son would have otherwise. As Superman, Clark is essentially devoted to the world and having to make sacrifices. He can never truly put his desires or needs first. An example of this is when he fights and kills General Zod. Superman/Clark did not want to kill anyone, let alone one of his own kind, however he did what he though was right for
Another example, is that Odysseus was selfless while they were stuck with Circe. If he was selfish he would've done anything just so he can survive and so that only he would. Circe had enchanted the crew and turned them into animals. He and some other men could have
In 1803, shortly after the Louisiana Purchase, Thomas Jefferson, our third US President sent two men, U.S. Army Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark out to explore the unexplored west and in search of a water route across North America, fulfilling the dreams of Thomas Jefferson in sending explorers across the America.
This was demonstrated during the fire when there was a possibility he would die but he still saved the little kids. He was also selfless when he saved ponyboy from the socs. Another example
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore a land that nobody has ever explored before? This is exactly what Lewis and Clark did when the United States purchased a very large amount of land in The Louisiana Purchase. The Corps of Discovery was one of most important expeditions at that time. The preparation of the journey, the journey itself, and the aftermath of the journey were three main things that happened with the Corps of Discovery. Although the journey was hard, they succeeded.
At the point when somebody's life involves death, you would wish to be a hero. In the play "12 Angry men," composed by Reginald Rose, is what happened. When someone is about to lose their own life, you wouldn’t want that person to face death if they were innocent. The play happens in the courthouse gathering room, where 12 Members of the jury are stuck in a room, on a sweltering summer day, and out with a duty of choosing if a young man is guilty or not guilty for the stabbing of his dad. As they began, they choosing to vote to see where everybody stood.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore a land that nobody has ever explored before? This is exactly what Lewis and Clark did when the United States purchased a very large amount of land in The Louisiana Purchase. The Corps of Discovery was one of most important expeditions at that time. We will be going over three main points. The preparation of the journey, the journey itself, and the aftermath of the journey will be the main point of this paper.. Although the journey was hard, they succeeded.
“In essence… forces”(pg4, A Hero’s Adventure). To be a hero you have to overcome all your fears. He/she will go above and beyond to help someone other than themselves. Odysseus stepped over and went above and beyond to make sure his soldiers are safe and treated well. “Not for the whole treasures of your fathers” (611, Homer). Killing the suitors to get his wife and son back shows both heroism and father like qualities. He gives the suitors a speech before he kills them. He needed to get that revenge to fill his void of missing his son and wife and the way he was disrespected. He needed to show them that he was offended by them, but not intimidated.
William Clark was also Co. leader of the expedition. Throughout the expedition he was friendly and enthusiastic to learn exciting things on the new land. William Clark drew careful maps of fields, mountains, and rivers to bring back to Thomas Jefferson. William Clark brought along York, his slave, on the expedition. Therefore, William Clark was important to the expedition.
Which is not a very wise decision but it saves his men and helps him continue their
This scene respects the conservative rule, because Clark obeys to his father’s wishes. Indeed, he is obeying to his father without questioning himself. In other words, in this scene his father represents the authority figures, and Clark represents the citizens that to fulfill their roles of being a good citizen they need to follow the orders of the superiors. Superman Earth One shows that people needs to follow the ideals, and the orders of the authorities in place such as parents, politicians, etc. However, to this scene, there is an exception where disobedience can be accepted. In the second page of the cemetery scene, Clark is saying to his father that he is afraid of being excluded. He says to his father that he makes the choice to be normal. This scene represents an exception to the conservative idea, because Clark thinks that exposing his superpowers will scare normal people, so he decides to disobey his father. Clark makes a choice depending on what he wants, and not what his father wants. He disrespects his father in the purpose of being socially included in the community. In other words, this scene shows that disobedience of the authority figures can be acceptable if it is to be
In the beginning of the film, Superman we see Krypton being destroyed. Superman’s father decides to send his only son, Kal-El to Earth just like how God sent his only son, Jesus to Earth. In doing so Jesus and Superman help save humans from evil. Jesus was brought up by human parents, Joseph and Mary. Kal-El was also fostered by human parents, Jonathan and Martha. The names Joseph and Jonathan are similar just like how the names Martha and Mary are also similar. As an adult Kal-El takes on an alias name, Clark Kent.
Obedience is one of the main aspect of conservative view. Indeed, the government and the upper class protect the status quo by promoting obedience. An obedient society follows the rules and does not ask for changes. This blind obedience allows powerful people to govern without anyone questioning them. Obedience is a criticized theme in Earth One. For example, in the first volume, Clark Kent goes to the cemetery to talk with his father. He notably tells his father that he respects is opinion, but he does not want to become a superhero. Clark actually want to have a more normal life. The refusal of Clark to obey is parents wish is a good example of disobedience. This scene demonstrates to the reader that he is not always force to obey and that
Superman has powers like flying, x-rays, and heat vision. With his power Superman faces responsibilities and difficulties in calm and adequate ways. The opposite of Batman is that he is more aggressive and very impulsive in the moment to attack. They are very easily distinguished either in a comic book or a movie for their customs in different colors. Batman outfit is gray with black and a mask which anyone could determine the evil and dark he represents by the outside. Superman is in a brightest outfit representing America and the kind a hero they will choose definitely to fight crime. Frank Miller only wanted to bring Batman a little bit different with other perceptions including his principal rival Superman to make the story interesting and give the opportunity for many readers to notice wrong actions from our comic heroes.
The way he expressed his feelings is not accepted in our society, because people are used to getting criticism in pretty bundled words instead of mean direct ones. Further on, after the characters meet the Nicodemus flower, many of them have an increase in sexuality. Jonathan Kent, for example, becomes very sexual with his wife right in front of his son Clark. These sexual actions, according to society’s morals, are meant to be intimate and not public, like Jonathan has made them. Fortunately, his wife Martha reminds the viewer that his actions are an example of excess in his expression by saying that he is taking it too far (Gough and Millar).
In the 2013 film Man of Steel, Henry Cavill, an up and coming British actor, portrayed Kal-El. Mr. Cavill brought a cool and quiet, yet at times very detached and alien performance that did not elicit a similar sentiment from me as did Mr. Reeve’s portrayal. This was due in part to the story being retooled in favor of a bold retelling of his origins. The story now focused on him being an alien from a distant planet whose attempts to integrate into society are further complicated because he feels humanity is not ready to accept him for who he is and what that represents. The change to the storytelling dynamic also afforded a closer look at the main protagonist’s relationship with both his birth father, Jor-El and his adoptive father on Earth, Jonathan Kent. Also, in comparison to Superman The Movie, the opening sequences of Man of Steel provided a more intimate portrait of the last days of Krypton, his home planet. This of course served to better flesh out more of the backstory for Kal-El and provided new insight into what had become a relatively one dimensional character in the comic books over the years. The apparent aim was to create a connection with this larger than life character that we as the audience would come to understand in ways that went simply beyond knowing the persona of Superman.
