Straight teeth are associated with everything from a better social life, better employment opportunities, and a higher self-esteem. Even so, there is typically hesitation from most adults who do not want the time and financial expense necessary to invest in braces, especially when their first thought turns to traditional metal braces. New technology, though, like Invisalign, has helped to make straight teeth a possibility for individuals who want discreet and effective treatment options.
After almost a lifetime of going to orthodontist appointments for myself, I began to realize what a great job becoming an orthodontist would be. When I was about 9 or 10 years old, I had began the first stage of braces. After that, I was given instructions of how to properly take care of my teeth, such as which foods I couldn’t eat. I did not enjoy the entire experience throughout the years, but was relieved when they were removed before my first year of high school. Then I put on my retainer, and discovered it was like having braces
When I was 16 I decided I wanted braces not just because they were cool but because I wanted perfect teeth. My family members were against me but I was stubborn and did not listen to a word anyone had to say. My sister was very straight forward about
Four million five hundred thousand people in the United States currently have braces or other corrective orthodontic equipment (Bren). Out of these millions of people, most of them will wear braces for about two years. (Keates). Two years of braces plastered on a person can lead to many problems. This orthodontic equipment can have disastrous results, especially on younger, impressionable children and teenagers. Braces serve as a cosmetic fix for children and others who were born with teeth that are not perfectly aligned. Constant worrying about braces for these millions of people can cause immediate complications and issues later on in life. Children and teenagers are receiving braces at such a young age that self-esteem issues and bullying can arise. They are also not cost effective, complications can result, and food restrictions can truly hinder a young person as a result. Although some say that braces can be essential for oral health, they are not necessary in a majority of our youth. Therefore, braces should be received later in life to avoid a wide-range of problems for simply a cosmetic fix. Because of these extensive problems, young people should not receive braces until they are old enough to make their own decisions.
Your Confidence Will Soar Crooked teeth can have a negative effect on your self-esteem. You may feel embarrassed or self-conscious in public settings; choosing to cover your mouth when laughing or smiling. Once your orthodontic treatment is complete, you’ll be able to smile with pride and enjoy a permanent boost in confidence.
We all know that one day those braces will come off. At that time your orthodontist creates your new retainer. We all know the retainer is an important part of the teeth-straightening process. If you do not wear the retainer prescribed by your orthodontist, your teeth will go back to their earlier placement. Your teeth will line up exactly as they looked before you got braces. Your teeth are held in place by periodontal ligaments. It takes a long time for the periodontal ligaments to adjust when the teeth are straightened. Therefore, orthodontists created retainers to keep your teeth straight, in perfect alignment.
Orthodontic treatment has impacted my life greatly. I have gained self confidence and learned the importance of oral hygiene. These traits that I have acquired have helped me greatly as I navigate my way through the world.
Braces are designed to minimize the amount of pressure exerted on the teeth and to allow the teeth to move more comfortably and freely. Good brace treatment can give you a lasting perfect smile. The removable appliances, on the other hand, include aligners, headgear, jaw positioning appliances, palatal expander and removable space appliances among others. The aligners are great alternative braces for adults who want their teeth moved without having to use brackets and wires. Modern aligners are almost invincible and can be removed when eating or brushing the teeth. The jaw
Close your eyes and imagine looking at the beautiful Disney castle lit in shades of red, green, blue, and pink then POW! Fireworks of every shape and color start shooting into the dark sky in the background. Some were just straight lines of neon colors; others were all shapes and white. While watching them I was just in complete awe. All of the colors almost make you want to squint, but you just have to keep watching to see what colors and shapes come next. Just as you think the show is over there comes another round. The explosive beauty makes it seem as if it were day light in the dead of night.
I had an arch expander when I was in the 5th grade and beginning of 6th. Then, I had to wear a retainer at night for 7th and first couple months of the summer. Then, at the beginning of 8th grade, I got a permanent retainer. Then, I get BRACES. Braces! Cause everyone LOVES braces don’t they? Um……….Yeah, Sure. Also, cause braces Are the BEST THINGS IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, that’s all. So I got the arch expander, wore the retainer at night, Is wearing the permanent retainer, and then I get braces. It was crazy! There are some people that have told me (for braces) that “THEY HURT FOR LIKE THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF YOUR LIFE.” Then there are the people that are like, “Yeah, they hurt for like the first 2 days, but then it’s just the tightening that hurts.” So, I don’t know what it's going to be like. When I was getting my permanent retainer in, It hurt like someone was pushing up with a hammer it hurt so bad. They had to push it up really tight so it
There is always some concerns when you or your child need braces. First, you are afraid of how long it will take to move your teeth and how they will look and also how all of these will affect your self-esteem and your appearance.
Whether you’re a teenager or adult, if you wear braces on your teeth, you may be counting the days until they are removed. There have been amazing technological advances in every area of our lives and orthodontics is no exception. Today, there is a device that can actually reduce your treatment time by about 30 – 50 percent. If you have a special event in your future such as a wedding, graduation or prom, you may be able to have your braces off before the occasion.
While having your braces taken off may sound like a burst of freedom, and a return to normal life again, that is not entirely true. Wearing braces is a kind of intense dental therapy and after spending that much of your precious time to accomplish a straight, beautiful smile, one of the last things you want to do is to disrupt the progress that you made and allow your teeth to return to their former positions. With that said, after your dental braces have been removed, your dentist may recommend that you wear a dental retainer for a period of time to prevent your teeth from slipping back into their former positions.
With this year’s upcoming Fourth of July celebrations promising scores of loud, expansive, brightly-colored fireworks displays, it becomes seemingly impossible to not ask oneself the questions; where did fireworks come from, and how are they made? As long as I can remember there have been firework shows in each city across the country to celebrate the Fourth of July with reds, greens, and yellow explosions dotting the night sky as far as the eye can see. Although we can’t remember a time without them, fireworks have not been around forever, but they have been used for a very long time. Most historians assert that the Chinese were the first to discover fireworks in around 200 BC. Many think that the first firecrackers came in the form of bamboo pieces with air pockets sheltered in the woody stalk, which exploded when heated to produced a booming sound. Then, with the invention of gunpowder in China years later, the first firecracker was born when gunpowder was stuffed into these bamboo pieces in order to create a larger
