One quotes says, “Nice people, the Germans! To think I was once one of them too! No, Hitler took away our nationality long ago. In fact, Germans and Jews are the greatest enemies of the world” (page 36). The Germans or Nazis were led by their leader, Hitler, whose hatred for all Jews was because he wanted to build a empire and thought all Jews must be eliminated so he could make it. Anne uses her sarcasm to explain to us how bad the Germans actually were to the Jews. In this quote she explains how she was just like the Germans, living a normal life and then because of her religion she has had everything taken away from her and is now forced to fear everyday she is alive. A differing of beliefs is what made some many innocent lives lost throughout this
She tells him that instead of taking his anger out on them he should become more hopeful like them and not blame others for something that wasn’t their fault. Over her time in the secret annex Anne also became more drawn towards
The Diary of a Young Girl is a well written diary formated book by Anne Frank who is a victim of Jewish Persecution during the holocaust. Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt Germany in 1929 but, most of her journal entries took place in Amsterdam, Netherlands where the Secret Annexe is, there hiding place. The Diary covers the time spent in hiding for two years as well as the time spent in the concentration camp where she died in March 1945. Eventually someone told the Nazis where they were at and they got arrested leaving the diary behind in the Secret Annexe. It was later found by the office cleaner. Anne and Margot got shifted around through three different concentration camps, in the last camp they both died in Bergen, Belsen. A few weeks
People can only imagine the terrors that the Jews and other ethnic groups had to go through during the Holocaust in World War II. With Anne Frank’s diary, people can finally put themselves into the scene and captivate all the feelings and sentiments that Anne Frank has poured onto the pages. Anne Frank, her family, and their friends were known for hiding from the German Nazis in the Secret Annex for two years from 1942-1944. Innocent and naive,
At the beginning of the diary, Anne writes about trivial things involving her friendship with other girls, her crushes on boys, and her academic performance in school. These are typical entries for a girl who has yet to learn more about life. As the story progresses, the author admits that even if she has grand
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is organized in chronological order and include the dates important to the Jewish author. On Anne’s thirteenth birthday, she receives a diary she calls “Kitty,” and this is where she records events that happened to her. Anne includes writings about her brief normal life and the life in the “Secret Annex.” She and her family are hiding from the Gestapo during WWII. As the story progresses, more Jews join the Franks. There is great conflict between Anne and the rest of the residents, though sometimes her father is “darling.” After a little more than two years in hiding, the German police discovered the secret Jews and sent them into labor camps, where Otto Frank was the only survivor. Anne matures and finds Peter at her side, even though there is tension between the other Van Daans and herself. Not only is there conflict between Mrs. Van Daan, but with Anne’s own mother and her roommate, Mr. Dussel.
This was when Italy surrendered to the Allies during the war. Anne became so excited by this news that she even proceeded to throw away her previous written diary entry for that day. She wanted that entry to focus on that event and how much joy it brought to her. The news even proceeded to play the American National Anthem which said ‘God Save the King’. This event allowed for Anne to become more hopeful and realize that the war can progress on a positive note. In addition to this, another day where her morale was greatly affected was May 22nd, 1944. This was the day when many great people adopted the attitude of anti-Semitism, which is a hostility or prejudice toward Jewish people. Anne shows how this hatred affected her when she wrote, “Oh, it is sad…the old truth is confirmed: What one Christian does is his own responsibility, what one Jew does is thrown back at all Jews” (Frank 239). Here Anne is emphasizing how when a Christian does something unjust that only one individual is said to be at fault, but if a Jewish person does a similar action then it is said to affect the whole population of the Jews. This made Anne feel that a Jewish person has
Anne suffered through this adversity that never seemed to stop at any point in the novel. If the German ascent and takeover had never happened, Anne would have lived as a normal girl. Because of her religion, she went from a nice home living harmoniously with her family to a cramped office space, caged like animals, living in silence and
Anne is introduced in the novel as a pagan, who believes that there is a certain beauty in nature, which manifests itself into all natural things. “Do you know what I think May-flowers are, Marilla? I think they must be the souls of the owners that died last summer and this is their heaven.” (190-191) Later in the novel, this paganistic belief later changed to the love of Jesus and Christianity. “God’s in his heaven, all’s right with the world”. (364) Anne gains spiritual knowledge and insight into the world of Christianity through two female characters that influence her greatly, Marilla and Mrs. Allan.
Anne matures throughout the course of her diary entries, moving from detailed accounts of basic activities to deeper, more profound thoughts about humanity and her own personal nature. “I know what I want, I have a goal, an opinion, I have a religion and love. Let me be myself and then I am satisfied. I know that I’m a woman, a woman with inward strength and plenty of courage.” This shows that Anne matures through the course of her diary, she considers herself as a woman rather than a young girl and sets goals for herself that she wants to achieve. Anne becomes more optimistic even after she feels misunderstood by everyone and feels completely alone.
Can you imagine what it would be like to be a thirteen year old girl growing up in Nazi-occupied Germany? Anne Frank lived a normal life until the holocaust forced her family into hiding. In order to avoid being captured by the Nazis they were forced to move to her father’s office building. Because of this Anne spent most of her adolescent life being kept into hiding. The theme of The Diary of Anne Frank reveals that all young girls, whether they live in the 20th century or in modern times, struggle with the transitions from childhood to adulthood.
The first part of the diary starts with her being a regular girl having fun and turns into a girl going into hiding with seven other people. In addition, she has to deal with relation problems with her mom, sister, and the people she is in hiding with. The problems begin when eight people are confined in a small area and everybody begins to irritate and annoy one another. Anne was especially concerned with herself and with her attitude towards the others in the group. She's mainly concerned with her mother who always treats her like baby. Mr. Frank tires to ease the quarrels between them by telling Anne to help out more around the house, but Anne stubbornly declines preferring to concentrate more on her studies. She especially gets plenty of confrontations with Mrs. Van Daan who thinks she is a spoiled little girl. Mrs. Van Daan constantly tells Anne’s father, “ If Anne were my daughter.” Anne’s respond to this in her diary was, “Thank heavens I’m not!” Of course
Thirteen year old Anne Frank is stuck in an attic for 2 years during World War II. This can sometimes take a toll on one's personality. Anne Frank's book titled "The Diary of Anne Frank" takes people through what it was like to be a Jewish teenager during World War II. Anne and her family was forced to move into hiding, because of the harsh measures being taken by Nazis to rid Europe of Jews. During Anne's time in the annex, readers get to know her well, as she changes from the beginning, to the end of her time in hiding. While Anne at the beginning is different from Anne at the end, she still is consistent in some of her personality traits throughout the entire book. When the tyranny of Hitler began, Anne’s concerns changed, along with
Changes happen to all of us. The change may be good or it may be bad. We all experience changes and the changes reflect how we think, act, or talk in society. Every change is different and every change has different outcomes. In The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank change quite a lot throughout the story. She was very different from everyone else who hid with her in the annex, in good ways and bad ways. As she grows, she changes her personality, her mentality, and, most importantly, her emotions. She wanted to be respected and didn’t want to cause trouble, even though she did. As time went by, she started to change her emotions and felt more empathy.
In Anne’s diary her hideout, also the setting of the book, is a big reason why the diary is how it is. Because of their setting, it shows how the theme of war is all around the Franks and they are lucky not to be caught. For example, because they shared their home with an office building, the Franks witnessed some attempted robberies. On March 25,1943, Anne states, “ Mr.Van Daan got up and put on his coat and hat and followed Daddy cautiously downstairs, Peter took up the rear, armed with a large hammer in case of emergencies. The gentleman reappeared five minutes later and told us all was quiet in the house. The excitement had affected most of our tummies, you can imagine the atmosphere was like when we had each paid a visit in succession”. The burglaries in Anne’s diary remind us that every day they had to be worried about something. It kept the readers wondering what will happen next.
