The literature in Chapter II serves as the foundation of applicable research that

guides my investigation. Chapter III outlines the research design. In this section, I address

my research methodology, research participants, data collection, data analysis, the

limitations of the study, and ethical considerations. The intention of this research is to

contribute to the understanding of how Black administrators in postsecondary education

experience microaggressions and the tools these administrators have to turn their racial

microaggressive experience into personal and professional growth. This study identifies

key markers of a tense Black racial history, the introduction of the BA in postsecondary

education, and unequal treatment of BAs who have experienced this phenomenon and

progressed to positions as successful executive administrators.

This chapter covers a number of topics that inform the approach that will guide

the research; it also explores methodology and the rationale for using hermeneutic

phenomenology. The resolve of this study is to begin to comprehend the phenomenon of

microaggressions in postsecondary education for the mid-level administrator as

experienced by those executive administrators who survived the experience to be

promoted and ascend in their careers. The content of this chapter defines the purposive
