The first thing I learned while gaining knowledge on ODD is that it is an adolescent disorder only once a child reaches eighteen years of age they are no longer considered to have ODD, but another disorder such as bipolar disorder. Knowing this will influence my practice of social work because I may be working with a client who meets all of the criteria for ODD, but if they are over eighteen I can narrow down their disorder to another disorder relating to ODD. Second, I never knew ODD was a disorder I always thought there was just conduct disorder (CD). This is good information to have because there are significant differences in the criteria for both disorders. While doing research on ODD and CBT I came across six tools to use to help treat

According to a helping professional our job is to know what will impact the client positively or negatively in systems perspective, there are major factors that a professional has to put into account when managing the client. In the Iatrogenic problem this is when a doctor or the social worker makes the situation for the clients worse than what it actually is. It is also very important that the professional is aware of their shortcomings. As a professional we need to know what community we are more able to work with or the community that we know we absolutely have no shadow of a doubt that we cannot work with. In order to be self-aware the professional needs to evaluate his own personal views and goals that he has towards his self

According to Mooney, Holmes, Knox, and Schacht (2013, p. 5), the elements of social structure include: roles, statuses, social groups and institutions. These institutions include: family, politics/government, education, and economy. The five sub-institutions include: science and technology, media, sports, military and medicine. Social structure is continually changing as society

The client stated that he did not commit his crime that he pleaded guilty to because he was “set up”. However, the client would not say that he was a victim. The child’s behavior will be measured by the amount of interruptions in class and how well they interact with other students. Patient’s with ODD often have problems with authority figures and exhibit hostile behavior towards them (Cavanagh et al., 2014). Also, once the child has either completed the DBT treatment or once they’ve been on the waitlist for four months, the teacher will be sent the questionnaire again, regarding the child’s behavior for the past month. If the behavior has improved, the teacher would note less disruptive and hostile behavior in the classroom. There will also be a follow up questionnaire sent to both groups 6 months after completion of the DBT groups. This will show if treatment effects are still present after the treatment has ended or if the effects have disappeared with
After a full assessment the social worker discovers that the parents are in the middle of a divorce and a custody battle over the child, and many mornings before the child goes to school he witnesses an argument between his parents. The social worker then decides to focus the intervention on the parents and attempts to change their patterns of interaction versus focusing on the child. Many problems remain in the American society such as the increasing number of people living in poverty, the juvenile crime rate, unaffordable housing for the working middle-class and poor people, backlash against illegal immigration, and the shortfall in social welfare programs (black). Social workers try to combat these problems, which are a result of society, economics, and development problems. As a young kid I always was very compasante to help people, always wanting to be a positive influence and be the light in someone's life. As long as it has been in existence, society has always been fractured into social classes, the very rich and the very poor. I see within our society the chasm growing by the year. The proletariat, boxed into cramped houses, while the bourgeoisie reside in mansions that jut up towards the sky touching the clouds. The rich, who control mostly everything in todays age, capitalize on those less fortunate than themselves and bask in the ignorance of the lower class. It is painful for myself to see the common worker, the average person, being taken advantage of and not even knowing his rights against such things.

While practicing HSBE, one should provide leadership with regards to the provision of quality service delivery and practice and also promote changes that are sustainable. An example is when I was in the field, and we had to develop a policy/program that would help organizations dealing with the elderly cut costs while still providing a good quality life for the elderly. This required the engagement of the affected parties, i.e., the elderly, their families and friends, and social workers working with them. This engagement was at a macro level where we came up with ideas involving the engagement of the elderly in doing various jobs or tasks as their capabilities allow. This included mainly volunteering, care, artistic or consultation services to help the elderly with no other sources of income earn a small income. We engaged the organizations and institutions management at the macro level to help in designing a way that the program will be effected, ensuring the participants have the necessary resources and support as
