1) In the late 19th and early 20th, young single women migrated to urban areas. The industrial revolution changed the way of life in America. People were now able to travel by train must faster than they ever could. This allowed big industries to pop up, causing a spike in labor. Big cities began to form as part of urbanization. Many people move to these cities for closer living to work. Overall the city had much to offer for the “new world.” Many women took place in this new movement. They were young, single, and desperate for an experience in their lives. Not only were these women new in the cities, but they were clueless of how it functioned, where to go, what to see, and most importantly; the dangers that lied in the dark. They traveled streets that they shouldn’t have never been near. They lived in sections of the city where crime was abundant. They were the ideal target to somebody like Dr. H.H. Holmes; a serial killer. He knew these women were away from their families and homes. He knew they had no contact with people they knew and nobody would notice if they went missing. Holmes was a charming, wealthy man with power. He was everything a woman could want. His looks drew the attention of susceptible women. He offered them jobs with good pay, a place to sleep, and much more. Not only was Holmes a good looking man, he was intelligent. He set up his “hotel” with secret passages, doors, and stairs that led to the basement in which he killed his victims. Through the course of his killings, Dr, H.H.
