In the short story “A Worn Path” Edora Welty establishes that “A person’s actions portray their character” through the use of metaphors by comparing Phoenix to everyday objects in our life. Edora establishes that “A person’s actions portray their character” by comparing Phoenix to a grandfather clock in the beginning of “A Worn Path”. In the text it states, “... she walked slowly… with the balanced heaviness and lightness of a pendulum in a grandfather clock” (Welty,1).
