Evil is disastrous if someone lets it get to them. In “Macbeth” by Williams Shakespeare, the protagonists, the witches are a symbolism of evil and the devil. They show how greatly Macbeth’s life was impacted by believing their prophecies. The witches nature also impacted Macbeth. Shakespeare uses the witches to display that evil can never benefit anyone.
The witches affect Macbeth’s decision making. In the beginning of the play, the witches tell Macbeth he will be the Thane of Glamis and Cawdor. The witches also state “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!”(1.3.53). Macbeth becomes the Thane of Glamis and Cawdor so he believes the entire prophecy is true. His wife and his decide he has to kill the king. King Duncan was his cousin
The witches prophesied Macbeth becoming Thane of Glamis and Cawdor, enticing Macbeth into believing he would become King of Scotland and with this knowledge he decides to take matters into his own hands. The quote displays Macbeth’s waning moral compass as he considers killing Duncan to accelerate his potentially fruitful future. The witches symbolize Macbeth’s greed overpowering his moral sense due to an unchecked ambition that focused on obtaining power. TS Blood in the play, serves the role of representing the guilty conscience of Macbeth after his moral compass is destabilized and he kills King Duncan. Macbeth is consumed by guilt to the point where he,”Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more/
The three witches influence Macbeth by showing that what will his future will be. In act 1 scene 3 the three witches give Macbeth a prediction about his future by saying that “all hail Macbeth the future king of Scotland”.This quote shows that the three witches influence Macbeth by telling him that one day he be the thane of Cawdor. The prediction that they give him change his character into evilness person.
Within Macbeth, there are three witches which are supposed sisters. These witches are very symbolic of demonic thoughts and actions. They consistently lurk among the side lines and implant a sense of negativity among the characters throughout the entire play. The use of their couplets displayed within the play also contributes to the whole idea of witchcraft. The most famous line within the play from the witches would “Double, double, toil and trouble, / Fire burn and cauldron bubble”. As the witches speak of a cauldron and fire burning, it is as if they are mentally preparing potions to perhaps bring disaster upon certain characters.
To begin, the witches are the catalyst to Macbeth’s crimes because the convince him that he will become king. Macbeth first meets the witches while returning from a gruesome battle and it is safe to say that they greet him with some audacious titles. They initially greet him as the Thane of Glamis and the Thane of Cawdor, but it is their final greeting which has the greatest effect on Macbeth. The witches hail Macbeth as someone “that shalt be king hereafter!” (1.3.53). This ignites a fire inside Macbeth, who is an immensely ambitious person. He begins to fantasize about the luxurious life he would have if he were the king of Scotland and he suddenly has the temptation to kill King Duncan. Although the witches’ prediction is favourable, Macbeth has no reason to believe them, at least until one of their other predictions turns out to be true. This
I Malcolm, the new king of Scotland, was crowned right after the death of Macbeth. Macbeth was a cruel king and made everyone suffer during his reign. I believe that I was good king and after my crowning, I had noticed that many people were still unhappy and going through a tough time from Macbeth. The whole world has changed since Macbeth came into power. What Macbeth did was cruel and I had to go through a few steps to restore the peace. I did what any good king would do, which is to be close with everyone. I did not think it was going to be this hard to get back to the happiness they had. I really did gain their trust and made everyone smile again. He had restored peace and order, but there also were some challenges to face. I had feared that people would try to kill me for the throne. Just like Macbeth, he would kill the king to take the throne. I did not trust anyone around me, even my most dearest relatives and friends. I had trouble
The supernatural elements presented in The Tragedy of Macbeth each demonstrate hints of wickedness or evil. For example, the three witches. When presented in the story, their presence always gives off bad vibes. In the exposition of the tragedy, the First Witch asks, “When shall we three meet again? / In thunder, lightning, or in rain?” (I:I, 1-2). The use of “thunder, lightning, or in rain” indicates to the reader of the malicious nature of the three witches. Upon encountering the three witches, Macbeth is astounded. Their prophecies alarm him, causing him to ask what they mean by “All hail Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!” (I:iii, 50). Many times, the paradoxes used by the witches confusing. In one scene, the witches appeal in favor of Banquo. The use of their paradox, “Not so happy, yet much happier,” indicates their intention of portraying things not as they really seem. (I:iii, 66). Meeting the three witches is Macbeth’s first step in losing his sanity. He struggles to differentiate what is real and what is not.
Firstly, Macbeth cannot control his compulsion to know more about his fate and feel secure in his role as the King, so he listens to anything The Weird Sisters will tell him, as he desires more power. When Macbeth heard his first prophecy and the first two predictions came true, he automatically believed that the third would as well, not doubting the Witch’s honesty. When the Weird Sisters decide to mess with Macbeth they tell him, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail Macbeth! That shalt be king hereafter.” (1:3.50-53) These were the predictions that the three witches gave to Macbeth about his future. To mislead him, they included an unrealistic prediction that he would become King. He obsessed over this until he came to the conclusion to murder Duncan, the King, and replace him
But the witches who could supposedly foretell the future, add temptation, and influence Macbeth. They had told Macbeth that he would be King he became impatient and tried to hurry it as quickly as he could. But they cannot control his destiny. Macbeth creates his own misery when he is driven by his own sense of guilt. This causes him to become insecure as to the reasons for his actions, which in turn causes him to commit more murders. The witches offer great enticement, but it is in the end, each individual’s decision to fall for the temptation, or to be strong enough to resist their captivation. The three Witches are only responsible for the introduction of these ideas and for further forming ideas in Macbeth head, but they are not responsible for his actions throughout the play.
These prophecies that the witches told Macbeth. At first did not affect him he thought if they are gonna happen then let them happen by themselves. The first three prophecies the witches said “Thane of Cawdor…,Thane of Glamis…, and king hereafter( 1.3.48-50).” Macbeth did not at first believe this then he sent a letter to his wife about the prophecies. When his wife seen this she was very excited. She wanted to have the power of Queen of Scotland. So when Macbeth got home she asked him about the three prophecies and manipulated Macbeth into killing Duncan. So Macbeth and Lady Macbeth would become King and Queen. This made Macbeth became a deranged man. He became very

The prophecies gave Macbeth just enough information to mislead him. He believed that he would become king in time. After Duncan announced Malcolm his heir, Macbeth began to question how the last prophecy would become a reality (What). Many critics say that Lady Macbeth could be considered a witch herself (Riedel).

Macbeth takes place in a society full of treason, flaws, and corruption. This culture of evil is reflected onto William Shakespeare’s main character, Macbeth. Macbeth’s thoughts and actions are influenced by a society full of chaos and dismay. Evil starts to feed off of his morals, turning him for the worse. Macbeth’s main qualities – guilt, pride, and ambition – push him towards sin and evil rather than good. These characteristics could propel Macbeth to do wondrous things, yet as the play reveals, this is not the case. The Witches can foresee the future, such as when they greet Macbeth with the tittle In this moment The Witches greet Macbeth with his past, present, and future titles. Macbeth is amazed to hear that they know his name when he does not know of them. This could appear as a mere coincidence but Macbeth believes them to be supernatural as this image is enforced by their haggard appearance. At the moment Macbeth does not know he is the current Thane of Cawdor but when he finds out that the Weird Sisters predictions are true he starts to think of power and when he will become king. Shakespeare is making his character Macbeth think of becoming king so much whereas it begins to consume his thoughts and cloud his judgment, by doing this Shakespeare is already one step closer into turning Macbeth into a villain.
