King Arthur does not just magically become the amazing king he grows up to be. He is trained to become a trusted ruler and a worthy knight. He learns the best lessons from his tutor, Merlyn. Merlyn helps Arthur when he’s a young boy who is under the rule of Sir Ector. Merlyn uses the most extraordinary lessons to get Arthur to become successful in the long run. Not many people helped Arthur as a young boy to become something other than Sir Kay’s assistant. Overall, Merlyn’s extravagant lessons helped shape the Wart into the True-Born King of Britain.
In the “Sword in the Stone” Merlyn uses Arthur’s experiences to teach him leadership. Merlyn accomplishes this by transforming Arthur into various animals. He teaches him through both positive and negative examples to further him in his education to become king. The different animal transformations were the perch, merlin, ant, rook, wild goose, and the badger.
Personal power has the ability to be essential to greatness, and at the same time is able to destroy a person’s nature. In the drama Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the main character, Macbeth, becomes corrupt through power that he gains. The play shows that even someone who starts out like Macbeth and does not crave power, will do terrible things to gain authority and power.
Merlin has successfully brought up King Arthur to become a virtuous man and a worthy king who is exceptionally capable of fulfilling Machiavelli’s guidelines. For example, Machiavelli states in “Concerning Things for Which Men, and Especially Princes, are Blamed” from The Prince that “…a man who wishes to act entirely up to his professions of virtue soon meets with what destroys him among so much that is evil.” Merlin taught Arthur integrity and goodness. King Arthur takes this wisdom to build the
Did supernatural events, events we don't see today, occur in the first century? The legends of Arthur claim that supernatural elements affected him in many ways. Characters such as Merlin, talking animals, and Arthur's sword Excalibur have a role with the supernatural.
The characteristics Arthur had made him the incredible leader he was. Malory writes, “...for I shall tell you I have thirteen sons, and all they will fall to what labour I put them...but this child will not...but always he will be shooting or casting darts, and glad for to see battles and to behold knights…” Malory (92). King Arthur showed the qualities of a knight even before he was chosen to become one. This leads to Lupack when he states, “These character traits are important in a nation leader, these people must be confident.
Of the many villains in the Arthurian legend, Morgan le Fay, Morgause, and Mordred, may be the most well known and most influential as they have transformed the texts of the Arthurian legend over the years. As the legend is altered, their roles are changed by the many writers who impacted the Arthurian legend. Due to the fact that the legend has been retold many times, the role of each character cannot be consistent.
The way a society is run and how things are enforced also can cause negative feelings towards power. It can cause many to rebel if they feel that a leader has too much control, and it can also make people covet and desire such strength leaders have. In Julius Caesar, Cassius
The Arthurian Legend is seen to be extremely influential in benefitting the English people during the Romantic Era. Even if King Arthur is a fictional character of myth and legend in England, his childhood, countless glories and achievements as the king of Camelot, and the final down fall of his strong empire validated his importance to English literature. Proof of King Arthur’s existence would possibly solidify the impact he had on the English culture (Arthurian Legends Vol. 1).
There is a famous quote by David Brin which states: “It is said that power corrupts. But actually it’s more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power.” This quote means that not everyone can be corrupted, but sometimes, people are too weak to handle the pressure. Additionally, power comes in many forms, but one way that really stands out is when it boils down to influence on other people. Furthermore, in real life and in novels, power often corrupts people and characters. In both the novels Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, power has the ability to bring out the worst qualities in human nature in the antagonists, a concept that can be also be applied.

Most movies have the ability to embody the original intent of the book they were based upon. Disney’s movie version of T. H. White’s rendition of The Sword in the Stone, however, while portraying the correct story, does not truly convey enough elements of White’s version to be effective in telling the original story. Yet another point to prove himself is his epic, as well as revolutionary, battles as a warrior. As one of the most capable knights in the kingdom, Arthur was always on the front line of major battles or smaller battles of great importance. His ability to quickly decide whether or not to kill his enemy or simply make them give up and restrain them was of his greatest qualities as a leader. This proved that he had morals that he kept and also proved that every decision he had made was for the greater good of his kingdom and the people residing within. His ability to work as a group showed that he was willing to work with others and that he believed in others as well as himself. What he fought for was also important. The little he did fight was only to protect his honor and country as well as the people he loved, proving that he only harmed when he needed to.
King Arthur isn’t a strong leader! Everyone believes that King Arthur had a perfect kingdom and that he was a strong and brave leader and could face any danger and come back alive.
