How Does Nick Carraway Use Color Analysis In The Great Gatsby

“So we beat on beats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past” (Fitzgerald 180). Nick Carraway is the famous narrator of the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and he is responsible for the quote above. After doing a color analysis on Nick, the test determined that Nick was associated with the color green. A color analysis is a test that one takes to figure out what color their personality associates with. Nick displays the color green through several traits: curiosity, loyalty, and dishonesty. Nick Carraway exhibits his curious nature throughout the novel. To be curious is to be eager to know or learn something. He is very curious and when he doesn’t know what something is he investigates it. All throughout the novel, Nick’s curiousness won over. Time and time again Nick tries to figure out his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. When Nick receives an invite to one of Gatsby’s many glittering parties. The minute Nick steps through Gatsby’s doorway he begins searching for his host. Nick narrates, “As soon as I arrived I made an attempt to find my host…” (42) An additional time Nick revealed his investigative quality was when he invited Daisy over for tea. For example, Nick never tells Daisy about Myrtle and Tom. He is Daisy’s cousin and never once mentions her husband’s secret affair. Daisy has the right to know yet Nick isn’t all for telling the truth and keeps the secret from her. Then Nick goes on to state that he is the most honest person he knows. Nick says, “I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known” (59). But then when Daisy hit Myrtle, Tom’s lover, Nick didn’t defend Gatsby. This could have possibly saved Gatsby life and on some small level Nick knew it too. He could have defended Gatsby, but instead decided to protect Daisy from Tom’s wrath.
