There are a couple places where Odysseus gets stuck on a island where other people live. The first one is the Phaeacians land, when he first gets stuck there, a bunch of women were going down to the river to clean their clothes and that happens to be where Odysseus is. When the women were washing their clothes and letting them dry they were playing ball and when Odysseus finally he woke up he asked them for some assistance and they all got startled and ran besides one. The one girl who was there to help him and brush all of the sand off him was the princess of the Phaeacians. Athena made him really handsome for that she would fall in love with him. They finally get up and headed to the palace. To avoid making a big scene Nausicaa the princess
In The Odyssey- Part II, Odysseus with the help of his son and loyal servants. They slaughtered all the suitors and maids for the following: they tried to take advantage of his goods, they tried to marry his wife continuously, and destroyed his house. The slaughter of many of the suitors may have been brutal, but it was necessary.
In contrast to Odysseus, Everett's view on faith is remarkably different from Odysseus' view. In "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?", Tommy tells the " Chain Gang" that for him to learn how to play the guitar, he sold his soul to the devil. Furthermore, Everett lets Tommy know that Delmar and Pete had just been baptized but he is the only one who is apart from any religious group or figure. This shows that no God, religion, or miracles are believed by Everett. Now in contrast to Everett, Odysseus believes in many Gods and relies on them to help him stay alive throughout his journey and reach home in one piece.
After the incident with Circle, Odysseus's men were tired and exhausted but he encouraged them to keep moving. They came across Thrinacia, The Island of the Sun God, Helios. But Odysseus's men begged Odysseus to stop at Thrinacia to rest. He tried to force them to keep moving on but they managed to convince him to stop at the island. When the landed on the island Odysseus made them swear not to touch Helios cattern. He told them about the consequences and of how no man can avoid Helio´s eye. An entire month passed. They started running low on food and his men were nearly starving to death, the men considered going after the Sun God´s cattle but were able to resist until one of the men snapped. While that was going on Odysseus went to a shrine
Odysseus shows he is a hero when later in the story he finally arrives home disguised as a beggar. Near this time his wife Penelope decided she was going to move on from Odysseus and set up a competition for the suitors to win her hand in
First, Odysseus men came to Circe island and some of his men went off to hunt for food. To begin, One of his men come back and told Odysseus that everyone else was turned into an animal by a witch and one of them is the pig the men who stayed back were trying so hard to kill. Second, when Odysseus went back to his men he almost died from falling from the mountain that Circe house was on. Third, Odysseus boat was almost destroyed from the sand and erosion that happened to it, but that did not stop him, he fixed up his boat and went back to his journey. Finally, Odysseus did not back down from a witch that could have easily harmed him but he was not scared he wanted to keep his men safe.
Odysseus, the main character of The Odyssey, is an amazing example of an ancient hero that went through many different challenges. Heros, to me, are people who do great and help many different people in a lot of different ways. Odysseus is a good example of an ancient hero because he helped his city defeat Troy with his great trickery, courage, and strength. A great example of a modern day hero is Superman. Also known as Clark Kent, Superman is an outstanding hero. He helps out his city whenever they are invaded by evil super villains. He is able to accomplish these challenges with his superpowers, his willingness to protect the citizens. I believe that Odysseus has a lot of similarities with Superman in a hero’s journey.
Odysseus would not be the same hero he was known for without the help of the gods. Odysseus struggled with monsters, himself, and with society. He fought against monsters, forced his men to tie himself up in order to listen to the siren's song of forgetfulness, and had to come home to find multiple suitors for his wife in his own home. Odysseus needed the help from the gods in order to defeat the monsters and make his way home.
Odysseus is described as a god-like man. He is cunning, sly, suave, strong, confident and self-possessed. He accomplishes many great events like that of defeating the Trojans, slaying the suitors and travelling to and back from Hades. When on the beach in Phaeacia he confidently “stalked as a mountain lion exultant in his power strides through wind and rain and his eyes blaze and he charges sheep or oxen or chases wild deer” , and when he sees Nausicaa “He launched in at once, endearing, sly and suave” . Athena found him to be “so winning, so worldly wise, so self possessed!” . Neither does he lack in ingenuity, King Nestor said that “No one...could hope to rival Odysseus, not for sheer cunning–at every twist of strategy he excelled us all” . Odysseus has a large and gallant reputation to fulfil, but when he first makes an appearance in the book he is crying on Calypso’s island. Crying is often seen as a weakness in a man, but this makes Odysseus more endearing as it reveals the labour of his love.
Imagine being ripped away from the home and family you love to fight an epic war and journey back. In the epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer, that’s exactly what Odysseus had to do. Odysseus, king of Ithaca, husband to Queen Penelope, and father of Telemachus, had to leave and fight the Trojan war in Troy. His men and he journeyed back for 20 years. He used skill to overcome obstacles.
In Homer’s notable epic, The Odyssey, Odysseus, gifted with incredible physical strength and power, is traveling back home to the island of Ithaca. Over the course of his decade long journey across boundless and precarious waters, he learns that though, physically strong, he must use his mind and not rely solely on his physical attributes. He opposes many obstacles that he must overcome, the most important obstacle being temptation. His journey back to Ithaca is riddled with temptation that will test his physical, emotional, and mental capabilities. Through this journey he learns to overcome these weaknesses and temptations to make it home.

The eat well but could not prepare for what followed. They were all struck down by a lightning bolt and drowned except for Odysseus. Odysseus learns that he must be able to control his men or else they will make mistakes that will cost them their lives. Odysseus returns to Ithaca disguised as a beggar so that nobody will recognize him and blow his cover. He does this under the guidance of Athena, the goddess of wisdom.
Chuck Norris once said “I’ve always found that anything worth achieving will always have obstacles in the way”. I agree, and, for me, I will continue to reach my goal no matter what tries to stop me. Like Odysseus, I will face challenges on the journey of becoming pharmacist such as paying for college tuition, overcoming my distance from my family, and adjusting to my surroundings.
After assisting Telemachus, Athena ventures to the Island where Calypso lives to free Odysseus. Odysseus is then given a boat by Calypso to return to home. On the way home, he lands on a strange place which is unknown to him. Athena, cognizant of Odysseus' arrival, travels to the palace of Alcinous disguised as one of Nausicaa's friends. Athena enters the palace and gives Nausicaa advice to venture to river so she would clean herself up to make her presentable to men. In doing this, Athena has sent Nausicaa to meet up with Odysseus at the river. It was then Odysseus' turn to be disguised.
They tried to stay quiet but the Cyclopes spotted them and asked what they were doing in his cave. He really didn’t care because he snatched two of his men up, smashed their heads, torn them limb by limb, ate them. Day by day he did this and when the Cyclopes was sleeping, Odysseus told his men that they needed to find a way to get out of there and so they did. When the Cyclopes awoke, Odysseus offered him some of his wine and he tried it and begged for more so Odysseus just kept giving it to him drink by drink until he was drunk. The Cyclopes asked Odysseus what his name was and Odysseus said “Nothing.” As soon he asked that, he fell over and slept peacefully. While he was sleeping Odysseus found a large branch and asked his strongest men to put the tip in the fire and when it was burning red, they shoved the hot part of the stick into the Cyclopes’ eye. The Cyclopes let out a loud roar that woke up his neighbors. They came running and asked if someone was killing him and the Cyclopes answered “Nothing is killing me!” So his neighbors left without second thought. When the Cyclopes let his herd of sheep out Odysseus and his men clang to the bottom of the sheep and left the island safely.
