How Does Personality Affect Effective Leadership? Leadership is the concoction of influencing people to perform the assigned task willingly, efficiently, and effectively. Effective leaders guide their followers in goal-setting, visualization of those goals, and encourage their followers for goal achievement. Effective leaders provide a positive and professional work environment. Effective leadership binds the people by generating same attitude among the employees. Leaders can improve the teams by influencing their performances (Yukl, 2012). Leaders should adopt the behavior that is appropriate for the situation to produce the desirable organizational effectiveness. The behavioral aspects can impact individual, teams, and organizational performance. Leadership behavior is directly associated with promoting and encouraging change. This change behavior has more impact on executive level people than low level employees. Change behavior is more important in dynamic and uncertain environment (Yukl, 2012). According to Yukl (2012), skills can enhance the effective leadership behavior. Effective leadership behavior use skills rather than the behavior. Skills are not equivalent to actual behavior, but it helps in understanding leaders’ ability to select behavior and use them more effectively. According to Men and Stacks (2013), leadership behavior can be categorized into transformational and transactional leadership. Transformational leadership involves empathy, compassion, sensitivity, relation building, and innovations. It produces the climate of trust, develops confidence, and employee development. Transformational leaders believe in participative decision-making process. Personality is strongly related to the transformational leadership behavior (Cavazotte, Moreno, & Hickmann, 2012).
