Orange is the New Black is a perfect example of different sociological concepts we’ve discussed in class. The show is streamed on Netflix. It’s takes place in an all girls prison, Litchfield Penitentiary. The premises of the show is Piper Chapman’s life in prison for money laundering. However, in this paper I will be talking and using examples of sex, gender, race, religion, groups, and organization, all of which are found in Orange is the New Black.
Piper Kerman, a young women that was in a relationship with a women by the name Nora. Nora and Piper had a loving relationship, but in no way normal, as far as most relationships go. Nora was in a special business that involved smuggling drugs into the country, and getting paid big bucks to do so without getting caught. Piper was asked to perform a small task to help out the business, which then lead her to her future problem. Ten years later Piper was happily engaged to a man named Larry, they started out as great friend but then advanced to more. In 1998 it was to her surprise that two officers by the names of Maloney and Wong, came to her house in New York to deliver the news that she'd been indicted in federal court of drug smuggling
In the United States of America, there are several different types of incarceration facilities that criminal offenders, both convicted and accused my end up. The two most distinguishable different facilities post-conviction are the state prison systems and the federal bureau of prisons. These units house a wide array of criminals, from the lowest of low scum to the high profile “Hannibal Lector” types. The range of crimes is equally different, from sexual offences and aggravated murder charges all of the way down to so called white collar crimes and too many DWI’s. In short, the intricate designs and diversity contribute to an experience all to its
They think that since inmates have been in the same situation and are both stuck in the same place they will be more likely to find those that escaped. 3.) The group of inmates selected to find the guy who escaped seem to take control of their environment at first because they are used to being around other people who all have big egos and can’t act like they are week in any way. Their environment has taught them to always be strong and to never let anyone see when something hurts you. They are constantly having to place a mask over their emotions.
The information I collected from watching the video series would be that during the criminal justice process every little detail counts for something. If one misses anything that case at hand could disappear in a heartbeat. Starting with the arrest of a suspect, which to make that arrest a police officer has to have probable cause. Next after the arrest has been made the prosecutor takes over to try and get the suspect on trial as fast as he or she can. The department of corrections then goes in to make sure all the paperwork is filled out correct and complete, this process will make everyone else 's jobs much easier. After everything is finished the inmate is sent to prison and is met by the warren who tells he or she how their prison is ran. When the prisoner is up for parole the board of parole comes in the picture and has the job to decide whether to let the inmate out on parole or not. In the Criminal Justice video, “A file of that certain inmate is passed around, and the parole board will then make make a vote on whether the parole is approved or not there vote being 3 to 2” (Criminal Justice Process). In the Criminal Justice Process video one topic that i found was that the parole board do not trying to set the inmate up for failure they allaround just want what is best for the inmate. Another topic at hand is
prison and where things are at, but at the same time Piper is paying attention at all to what is being said to her.

I believe in giving students their best chance at success. Toward that end, I am eager to put my educational skills to use by serving Chautauqua Striders as a tutor and I am ready to step into this role immediately. My content specialty is mathematics and I would be comfortable tutoring grades K-12 so I am interested in both positions listed on your website: Elementary / Middle School Tutor and After-school Tutors @ Chautauqua Striders. My younger sister, Tiffany Jager, tutored for Chautauqua Striders prior to attending Caltech and it is because of this connection that I learned about this opportunity through word of mouth. Mathematics has been my favorite subject since childhood, and throughout my education I discovered my desire and
You are no longer in your neighborhood, inside your own house. Hundreds, if not thousands of total strangers now surround you. Upon entering prison the realization hits you; things are done differently. There are various types of people, and they do things differently on “the inside.” You start
Crime rates are very high within America, and when you do the crime, you have to pay the crime. Many people are incarcerated due to the type of crimes they commit. When you’re incarcerated, you’re sent to prison. I always had somewhat of an idea how being imprisoned works but I wasn’t fully aware of how the routine worked, I just know the basic steps like committing a crime, getting caught, sent to jail, go to trial, then the judge sentenced you depending on how bad the crime was, I didn’t know anything else passed that. As a curious student of Kingsborough, I’ve pulled up a lot of researches that helped expand my knowledge of incarceration practices.
The work environment in Vet Tech is stressful. In a Vet clinic, illnesses and injuries are more common in Vet Tech. One has to be able to handle being kicked, bitten, scratched, etc when holding, cleaning, or restraining an animal. Try to avoid getting injuries while working in a Vet. Watch for body language in an animal and have proper restraint techniques. To avoid illnesses, the Vet Tech should follow safety procedures. Illnesses can be caused by these things since they would be around them most of the time; Needles, bodily fluids, radiation and other potentially hazardous substances. (“How to Become a Vet Tech”).
The show is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir of the same name, and documents the experiences of a privileged Connecticut WASP named Piper Chapman who spends 15 months in a woman’s prison because she transported money for the head of a drug cartel, who happened to be her lesbian lover. Some of the show’s primary themes involve this clash of worlds, between the upper class white background of Piper, and the lower class, mainly nonwhite world of the prison.
Orange is the new black is a show that basis women's views from a prison who are not terrible people however they ended up doing something if not for themselves but for someone else that gets them in trouble with the law. Necessarily wasn't the best idea or the right thing to do. The women are viewed as being strong or weak emotionally independent, dependent.

There are even worse scenarios that exist in today's prisons. The prison guards have little control and prison can be a violent place because again it is not a place that specializes in rehab. On television shows you see inmates stabbing each other and are quick to assume that it is a dramatization, but it really an occurrence that happens often, in prisons all over the world for that matter. In an article by Raphael Rowe he writes about how a part of him died in prison, and he had to be on his guard constantly, "Once, I was sitting in the television room watching football when someone I knew came in and told me to leave the room. I didn't ask questions: I just left and stood outside. A few seconds later, three other guys came running past me, pillow-cases with eye-holes cut out over their heads, carrying a huge cooking pot full of hot oil. I heard the screams long before some young black guy - a sex offender - came running out, his skin dripping from his face." Such horrid tales should let the general public know that we need to reevaluate
