Have you seen the news about racial discrimination reported so often? Racial Discrimination pops up a great deal of times and is everywhere. When some hear this word the image of a Muslim being hollered at or someone is beating them up. Maybe even a cop stopping a little African American boy just for walking down the sidewalk. One day you could walk past two people in a conversation then suddenly hear a racial slur. Whether we like it or not racial discrimination is everywhere. There are ways to stop it, but first people need to understand what it truly is, its history, what it’s become today, along with effects it has on individuals.

Well, its influences are from science, government, along with culture. German Scientist Johan Blumenbach who first introduced a race based classification of humans, which established a framework for analyzing race with racial differences. Moreover, a scientist in Europe named Caroli Linnaei (Carolis Linnaeus) introduced the first human classification system into society which ended up coming to America. It used to be your status being defined by wealth in addition to religion not physical characteristics. When this came out people began using that in its place. Studies show that police are more likely to pull over or frisk African Americans or Latinos than they are whites. In 2010 the U.S. Sentencing Commission reported that Africans are given a 10% longer sentence than whites for the same exact crimes (11 facts)4. A woman who tried Airbnb while planning her trip to Buenos Aries had made four requests while three requests got excuses her fourth one was regretfully accepted. Her Airbnb profile that she has started using made it mandatory that she uses her actual name instead of a screen name. For her it was difficult to believe race didn’t come into play because of her name sounding black (Does Airbnb)5. Another immense racial discrimination everyone observes is actually Hollywood with the stereotypes people witness on tv. For example the typical Indian the ones with long hair, always talk “Indian”, fat, lazy, always in trouble somehow, live in trailers on a reservation, maybe extremely traditional, always on a spirit quest, or even run through the forest wearing a piece of leather cloth with their hair
