In the first few seconds of a run, your muscle cells begin to convert glycogen to Adenosine triphosphate , by pulling glucose from your muscles and blood. In the first few minutes of a run, your muscles release lactic acid, your heart begins to pump blood throughout the body faster, and your body temperature begins to increase. More long term, consistent exercise and running affects your physical and mental health in many ways. It can improve your sleep patterns, relieve anxiety, lessen the symptoms of depression, and lower blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood cholesterol. For me, running does all of this and more.
