The writers in Macbeth, My Last Duchess, and Wuthering heights represent the theme of destructive love. Absolutely no balance of power is shown in the relationships within these three text.
In macbeth the destructive love start when lady macbeth thinks that her husband is weak and does not ever protect her at home. She persuades him to kill that's the love and it starts to destroy their relationship. The love in these text the women use love to persuade the men to do things. Just like macbeth he fell into the trap by killing and murdering. The first plot was to kill duncan. His wife lady macbeth persuaded him to do that.
How do the men react when the women do certain things to manipulate them? They react like every man would
In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the audience is shown the relationship between the character of Lady Macbeth and the character of Macbeth as both a supportive and a destructive relationship. This is because Lady Macbeth supports Macbeth’s destructive ambitions such as killing the King so that he, himself could become the King of Scotland. Not only does she support his ambitions, but she also provokes Macbeth to a point of almost “bullying” Macbeth to submit to his darkest of ambitions and pressuring him into killing the king, a decision that he regrets till the end of his days. The writer, Shakespeare, shows this to the audience to illustrate the point that even the best of us can give in to evils such as avarice, temptation and greed and become a monster because of
Her plan to change Macbeth's mind is very devious, she tells him that he doesn't love her if he doesn’t do it and also lowers Macbeth's feelings and makes him not think that it's about him but it's his duty to kill Duncan because he owes
She underestimates him and emasculates him into committing the murder of King Duncan. After Macbeth commits the murder, she comforts him and gives him strength. When he returns to his wife, Macbeth’s paranoia starts to take over because he thinks that someone heard him. He tells Lady Macbeth “I have done the deed. / Didst thou not hear a noise?” (2.2.17-18). To reassure her husband she says “I heard the owl scream and the crickets cry. / Did you not speak?” (2.2.19-20). If Lady Macbeth was not there for Macbeth, he would have a break down and his guilt would take over. She realizes that the two of them must be are strong together, they also need to start covering up for their crimes so she tells him “These deeds must not be thought / After these ways. So, it will make us mad” (2.2.41-42). Lady Macbeth is making her husband stronger and comforting him. Macbeth himself is a weak character, Lady Macbeth is the stronger one in the pair. Her ability to seduce Macbeth and help him cope with the murder are the reasons how they got away with committing the
Lady Macbeth understands Macbeth’s lust for the throne, and lusts for it herself. She also understands his ambition, but feels that her husband might regret and decide against killing Duncan to steal his throne, as she regards to Macbeth as “full o’ the milk of human kindness” (1.5.4). Since Lady Macbeth fears that Macbeth would turn against her and not go through with the plan, she decides that it must be up to her to get it done correctly. She asks that only the “direst cruelty” (1.5.33) fill her, as she gathers everything that is evil to her in order to murder Duncan. Even though Macbeth was hesitant over the idea of murdering Duncan, his wife convinces him that acting on his impulse of killing Duncan is the right thing to do. This shown when Macbeth starts to second guess the thought of murdering his king, and that it should not be done. However, his wife verbally harasses him into agreeing. Lady Macbeth questions his love for her, questions his masculinity, and criticizes his desire to be king by saying, “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man” (1.5.49-51). As his successfully offends him, he decides that he needs to prove his manhood, his love of his wife, and his ambition to be king, he agrees to murder Duncan.
The theme of destructive love within relationships in shakespeare’s Macbeth and Bronte’s Wuthering Heights are presented through sexism, jealousy, and betrayal. This three factors are the main causes of broken relationships and arguments between the partners. A good example would be the stories of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Wuthering Heights. Sexism, jealousy, and betrayal can also lead to death in a destructive love. Love can be defined as an attraction of feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure.
In the beginning of the play, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are seen to have a strong bond between them, where Macbeth is the noble kinsman who undertakes the role as a soldier and Lady Macbeth is the loving wife who stays at home which indicates what their original relationship is like. An example of the strong relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is in Act I, Scene V when the stage directions say, “Enter Lady Macbeth alone, with a letter”. The letter sent by Macbeth symbolises the respect he has for her, portraying the idea of Lady Macbeth being his confidant and showing that he highly values her opinion, as well as possibly seeking her approval on whether to pursue the prophecies given to him by the witches. In addition, the inference
As being the dominated one in their relationship Lady Macbeth uses all her control over Macbeth to make Macbeth murder king Duncan. She also challenges his patriarchy to make him murder the King. For example, when Lady Macbeth says "When you durst do it, then you were a man." Now that Macbeth is trying to back out of it, Lady Macbeth is calling him a coward and torments him to do the murdering. She also says " Wouldst thou have that which thou esteem'st the ornament of life and live a coward in thine own esteem..." In other words, Lady Macbeth uses the power of love to persuade him. She also says if you love me you would kill him straight away with no hesitation. Lady Macbeth says "I have given suck and know how tender tis to love the babe that milks me: I would, while it was smiling in my face, have pluck'd my nipple from his boneless gums and dash'd the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this." In this quotation Lady Macbeth stirs Macbeth even more when Lady Macbeth challenges their love relationship on the basis of the decision, he eventually gives in and murders King Duncan.
In the play, Macbeth, written by Macbeth, and his wife, Lady Macbeth, are greedy and want to acquire more power. Lady Macbeth is a very dominant character throughout the play while also being very manipulative. Therefore, her aspiration to be queen leads her to influence her husband to kill the current Thane of Cawdor, Duncan by convincing him to do so: That made you break this enterprise to/ me?/ When you durst do it, then you were a/ man;/ And to be more than what you were, you/ Would/ Be so much more the man” (Macbeth 1.7 55-59). This quote portrays the influence she has over Macbeth. Lady Macbeth’s greed prompts her to manipulate her husband’s emotions by belittling his character.
Lady Macbeth has the power over her husband to persuade him into doing anything she requests. She manipulates Macbeth with incredible efficiency by overruling all of his thoughts and changing his perspective on the present. Even though the many tasks that need to be completed are difficult to understand why they need to be done, Lady Macbeth will always convince Macbeth to do it. Her husband often tells her that she has a “masculine soul” which is obvious due to her murderous and envious actions. When the time came to kill king Duncan, Macbeth believes that his wife has gone insane and tells her that the crime they were about to commit was a horrible idea. As a result of his questioning, Lady Macbeth says that executing the crime will show his loyalty to her. On the night of the assassination Lady Macbeth watched the guards of the castle become drunk and unaware of what was going on. Lady Macbeth sent her husband into the castle to kill King Duncan. The married couple fled the scene leaving the guards covered in the evidence. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are stained with the blood of their victims and the feeling of guilt in their stomach.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth portrays evil as a perversion of human nature through Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s betrayal of Duncan and the repercussions of their actions. Murdering Duncan is not the best way for Macbeth to gain the power promised to him, he and his wife fall into a downward spiral that ends in death.
Women want sovereignty in a relationship also they will verbally abuse you to get that control. In the book Macbeth by shakespeare williams lady macbeth questions her husband macbeth manliness and verbally abuses him, Lady macbeth says “Are you a man”. Shakespeare quotes “ O, proper stuff! This is the very painting of your fear. This is the air-drawn dagger which you said led you to Duncan (3.4;65-67). Also another way women get in control in a relationship is verbal abuse used by lady macbeth was “Live a coward” (1.7.43), lady macbeth also reminds macbeth about her dead child using shocking images to control him to
Often a saying is told, the world works in mysterious ways. That is especially true with love. Destructive love is common simply because the world works in many ways. The theme of destructive love within Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Bronte’s Wuthering Heights is shown through sexism, jealousy, and betrayal. Often the topics in these will include control in relationships, as well as betrayal. Many things can happen within this world, and relationships fall apart due to this.
Lady Macbeth had a very powerful hold over Macbeth. Just by questioning his valor she could shift Macbeth’s whole thought process and second-guessing of the murder of Duncan (Booth, 24), and he allows it because he cannot bear to disappoint her. His love for her and need for her approval is what ultimately leads him to commit each and every one of his crimes. She is the center of his world and if she does not see a problem in the murders than why should he. This is naïve ignorance caused by a blindness that is induced by love, and that is both heart breaking and tragic.
Men of Athens, you accuse me of corrupting the youth of Athens, but I must combat this accusation. The fact that this trial is being held is preposterous and honestly a waste of time and focus for Athens. Before you can accuse me of corrupting the the youth, you must first ask yourself who really positively influences the youth in society? It certainly cannot be the laws because the laws are not a person rather a thing...correct? So It must be all the councilors and members of the assembly that improve the youth. If all of these men here today have an influence on the youth, then it is rather absurd to assume that I alone am the sole corrupter.
As far back as Jean can remember she’s always been attracted to Alan. Jean belonged to the poorest family in the clan and her father is the Laird’s farrier. Her mother Brenda, works in the castle’s kitchen preparing food for the royals. Her first glimpse of the castle was when she turned 16 and was employed as an extra hand to do the dishes and clean the kitchen floors. Those were also the few times she’d chance upon Alan who was 22 at that time. He’d come in sometimes dressed in his armor as he practiced jousting with his father’s men. Alan, being the first-born male in the family was the successor to the Lairdship. He was tall with blue eyes, robust physique, and blonde hair. He was always preoccupied with so many things his father would
