The American Dream The American dream is different for all people. Some people have higher expectations for themselves than others. Generally, people who are born within the United States wish to become wealthy, prominent, and live a prosperous life. Providing that, this is different than people who travel here from other countries. These people just want a good life consisting of a spouse and kids, a house, and a car. For that reason, the American dream is about creating a life out of yourself. Further more, America is full of opportunity that you just need to grasp. Everybody who lives here and comes here have the same amount of opportunity in life, its just what they do with that opportunity. The American dream affects me personally on a few levels. To tell the truth, it reminds me that anyone can come here and become someone they never thought they could be. Not only that, but It affects the world in a sense that people realize they can come here to start a new life. Because people can start a new life here, it leads to people trying to escape their country to get here. Either way it affects me personally because it gives me a whole new respect for this nation. Even more it makes me realize that we are so blessed to be living here and that we should take advantage of this opportunity. The American dream is …show more content…
While many people believe in the American dream, there are also those who think it is nothing but a delusion. The Late Great George Carlin said it best: They call it the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. While he makes a good point, achieving the American dream takes more work than most people are willing to put in. The American dream means working, saving, and teaching kids these values so that they and their kids will advance further. There are no shortcuts to achieve the American dream. This shows that through hard work and dedication, you can achieve anything in
The American Dream is pivotal to America's upbringing and culture. It has existed before America has. Its is the belief that a person could achieve success in America through hard work. The American Dream is somethings everyone wished to accomplish, and for good reason. However, the dream is increasingly getting harder to achieve than ever before. Be it for prejudice, persecution, social constructs, or even sexism. For some people, the American Dream is still a reality, but for others it will always be a dream.
The American Dream can mean different things depending on who is asked. Some will answer it is the freedom of religion, class or race, others will claim it is about the ability to choose where they want to work, what they want to wear, or what’s for breakfast the next day.
Today in America, some think the American Dream is fictional, and is exactly what it sounds like; just a dream. But the American Dream is achievable, and has been since the birth of this great country. The American Dream is an individualized goal that a person has which is usually very tough to achieve, but all have a chance to work toward it because of opportunities like high level education, jobs, and especially an equal chance to achieve one's desired life. America still provides access to the American Dream because regardless of background, current financial status, or race, the American Dream is achievable with hard work.
In general, the idea of the American Dream is to achieve prosperity and everlasting success through hard work and dedication. Although this is the norm, many people have their own unique idea of what the American Dream is based on how they were raised and what they believe success is. For one person success could be to live in a mansion, while for others it may be to live in a cardboard box. An example of the general idea is in the novel Spare Parts by Joshua Davis, where four teens are out to chase after the American Dream. While the example in the novel is very general, I have my own vision of what the American Dream is.
Through everybody’s eyes is their own version of the American Dream. Whether it’s the stereotypical dream with a good job, a family, and a house with a white picket fence, or it could be just getting by at the end of the month financially. The American Dream doesn’t have a specific image but rather a particular mindset. Lots of people have a goal in their life that they have to work hard to be successful towards that goal, but in most cases that goal may be unrealistic.
In my opinion “the American dream” is just an international, economic belief of what the perfect life looks like that many seem to think can only be achieved here, in America. People say in America, there are countless opportunities because there is so much freedom. The barometer that measures the American dream is “success” and “happiness” and how much of this are you willing to accomplish for yourself. Since success and happiness can mean different things to different people, our ideas of what the ideal life looks like never really seems to match that of someone else’s. What one may think of as the perfect life may not appear so perfect to another. Some people chase joy and happiness while others chase money and success. Which, at times, can be influenced by those closest to us, like family and friends.
The American dream is achieved by few but sought after by everyone. This perfect lifestyle is what anyone would want. The american dream is not given away or picked up out of nowhere. It has to be made, formed, created, achieved. People dreaming is the closest thing that they do. The power to dream influenced what it meant to be an American by working hard, being successful, and sacrificing.
In itself, the American Dream is an illusion. In Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, an illusion is defined as ‘a misleading or deceiving image presented to the vision as a

Everyone has heard of the american dream whether they think it’s real or not. The american dream is what people believed to be the ability to have a thriving life in america. America provides the american dream to everyone because everyone is equal and has the same opportunity and it’s a matter of how hard one works to achieve the american dream.
America provides opportunity to achieve the American Dream yet so many argue that it is impossible today. The American Dream consists of having opportunity to be someone financially stable and having success in your life. It is a long road to the American Dream with many obstacles on the way. Everyone is given an opportunity to start, with education being free. It is up to the person to decide whether they will continue their education to open more opportunities for their future. The American Dream is a reality that can be achieved today through hard work, self-perseverance and motivation to succeed.
To some the American dream can be making a lot of money or to be really famous or to just find a good job. According to Esther Goosens “the american dream is coming from another country, trying to achieve what you want, there’s not so many boundaries… that’s a lot of freedom and that makes me happy.” Also according Shayla Harris in “Defining the American dream” more people think they achieved their american dream now (2009) than had 4 years ago. Many people outside of America believe they can make their American dream a reality, and majority of them try to make that
The American dream is to slide through an effortless and easy life. An easy life, one where things are handed to you from the beginning, a movie picture life, is what Americans truly dream of. People dream of a family, money, health, and material possessions at their fingertips for all their lives. Many dream of something they really would not even want in the end. Most people are not handed all of these things and therefore are not capable of truly achieving the American dream, but those few who live their lives easily, are left feeling unfulfilled, while those who have earned the lives they lead are more likely to be content with the outcome.
The reality of the American Dream is that people are capable of succeeding. Success, though, requires one to work hard and be dedicated to
