How Does Tim Burton Use Cinematic Techniques

Tim Burton is a director who takes pride into his precious work. Burton’s films, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, and Alice in Wonderland, use cinematic techniques that show his personal style. His style is joyful as in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when Charlie wins the ticket, funny like Edward Scissorhands in the scene when Edward is greeted in the new town and he does not know how to act normal for the people, and a bit unusual in Alice in Wonderland when Alice had fallen into the tree. Most of Burton’s work is slow, shady, and has hand-molded characters that move with multiple picture screens, which make viewers easily depict they are his. A way that Burton does this is when he uses dolly/ tracking with a bit of pan and zoom movements, in Edward Scissorhands. When Edward’s creator tells him stories to get him to start developing a personality, the pan movements catches all the details with the plans Edwards’s creator has made to build him from start to finish. This scene happened after his creator’s other inventions had inspired him to make Edward in the first place. The tracking moments of the first invention showed how dedicated he was of being creative and different. Later, when the audience sees that the first invention was intended to make cutout cookies, there happens to be zoom where one of the cookies were made into a heart and the inventor grabs that cookie and puts it up to one of the robot’s chest.
