Shakespeare's play Macbeth shows the roots of all evil, our own human nature. The play is centered on the coexistence of good and evil. Macbeth, unlike any other Shakespeare play has the protagonist convert to evil. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth is shown as a hero in the Scottish army, that is ironic because Macbeth defeats a traitor and he himself becomes one later. Macbeth knows his place in the world. He is fully capable of distinguishing between right and wrong. Macbeth purposely disregards his own moral judgment to rise to power which is again ironic and goes against his own beliefs. Macbeth stands as a symbol for Satan's sin of ambition. Like Satan, Macbeth's thirst for power and ambition drives him to commit evil.Contrary to
“Nearly all men can stand the power of adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power” (Abraham Lincoln). Someone can come off as a good person until they are given power. When someone has power, they may abuse it or treat others unfairly. Giving someone power and seeing how they act can show their true character. Macbeth is the most responsible for the events that occur in the play because he misconstrued the witches prophecies and was overcome by greed.
From the moment Macbeth answers the play, it appears that he is always making immoral decisions. This drives the audience to believe that Macbeth is an evil character and regrets nothing that he does throughout the play. However, Macbeth is not inherently evil; rather he is driven to make these immoral and evil decisions because of the other characters in the play, such as the witches and his wife. The first time the audience is introduced to Macbeth, it is through indirect characterization from a soldier that witnessed Macbeth fighting on the battle field.
Macbeth was in no way a good person. When Macbeth was committing Duncan’s murder he said, “And on thy blade and dudgeon gouts of blood, Which was not so before. There’s no such thing. It is the bloody business which informs Thus eyes to mine.” Although Macbeth was mentally bothered by what he had done, he still did them and continued to murder more people. Once he had murdered his king, he started committing more and more evil deeds.
Evil comes in different ways, whether it comes from an outside force or an inside voice. In the play ¨Macbeth¨ by William Shakespeare, there is lots of evil. Macbeth is amazed by the three witches’ prophecy, and the prediction of Macbeth becoming the king plants a seed in Macbeth’s heart. Also hungry for power, Lady Macbeth strategizes with Macbeth and advises him to hide his real emotions. This dialogue from Act 1, scene 6 conveys Lady Macbeth’s support towards murdering King Duncan in order to gain power even if Macbeth transitions to a “serpent” (7), an evil and deceiving person. To establish Lady Macbeth’s character and position towards the murder, Shakespeare alludes to a myth, constructs the play

No fictional story is complete without an antagonist and a protagonist. In the play The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare Lady Macbeth shows an evil quality in herself based on the few actions she makes at the very beginning of the production. Nevertheless, as the reader or viewer delves deeper into the story, that evil nature somewhat fades and the reader begins to develop a different view of this character. Lady Macbeths reason for convincing her husband to murder the king is to gain power and control when he becomes king. Her plan was to just get him into that leader position and that was it.
What defines a villain? Is it a person who whose actions has negatively affected society? Acted immoral? Has done something that is scorned down upon by society? Or is it simply a person who has done wrong in general? Many argue that a villain is “Yes” to all these questions but I believe otherwise. I believe that a villain is not just someone who has done wrong, or acted immorally, but someone who has done those things without reason. The more we think about it, the more we see how unlikely these crimes apply to reality and how much they evade us from the truth of the villain world. The character Macbeth in the tragedy of Macbeth and Jae-Hee in The Girl Who See Smells are two outstanding examples of the misconception of who a villain really
