Overall, To what extent did the sinking of the Titanic influence the cruise industry? Major safety changes were enrolled in newer boats. Things such as a lifeboat to passenger ratio was used. Organization skills were implemented into crew training. Communication skills were updated for a more productive use. The Radio Acts after the Titanic called for a person to control the radio receiver at all times. Structural changes were made in order to withstand harsh circumstances and can survive a long time in spite of an emergency. Out of the three main changes in the cruise industry due to the sinking of the Titanic, structural changes seem to be the most productive and important. It allows the crew and passengers to not have to rely on communication
When the titanic was first built it was said to be the fastest, unsinkable, and safest ship. This was the first voyage of the Titanic. There were over 2,200 people on the ship and over 1,500 passengers died. As a result of the sinking of the titanic the radio act of 1912 was passed which improved communications for ships. The radio act included rules that improved the radios by making sure they don't have interferences, put other ships in dangerous situations, and improve the distance they can reach.
The Titanic is different from the other ships because, they thought that the Titanic was unsinkable. “It’s another ice burg warning…the captain had seemed quite unconcerned” on 106 and 107 so they aren’t worried that they will not hit the ice burg and sink because those people don’t think it can sink. “There was much talk among the passengers about the Titanic being unsinkable.” On 105 so they aren’t worried that the boat will sink. “Nicknamed the Unsinkable ship” on page 102 it even says unsinkable
The tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamen, or better known as King Tut contained a tiny glass object colored deep blue with cobalt. Since ancient times cobalt compounds have been used to produce blue glass and ceramics. Cobalt blue was discovered even earlier in China and was used for pottery glazes. The name Cobalt comes from the Greek word for mine, cobalos and the German word for goblin or evil spirit, kobald. Cobalt was discovered by a Swedish chemist named Georg Brandt in 1739. Georg Brandt was attempting to prove that the potential of certain minerals to color glass blue was due to an unknown element because bismuth was the source that was commonly thought to at the time. Cobalt has been detected in Egyptian sculptures and Persian jewelry from
in popular culture, such as Cameron’s 1997 Titanic which focuses largely on the folly in placing trust in technology.
Many other things aside from Captain Smith also helped in the demise of the Titanic on April 15, 1912. The pie graph indicates that Design & Construction and Environmental Factors had the least effect on the Titanic's sinking.
During the years of 1909 to 1912 the Titanic was being constructed and was launched in Belfast, United Kingdom. “I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to founder. I cannot conceive of any vital disaster happening to this vessel. Modern shipbuilding has gone beyond that.” Captain Edward Smith. The Titanic impacted American history through manufacturing ships stronger and the International Ice Patrol.
There were many factors to why the ship sunk, however the three main ones are, that the ship didn’t slow down while approaching the iceberg, a few of the crew members ignored the warning, and the iceberg that struck the ship affected it majorly. In the article, titled “R.M.S. Titanic” by Hanson W. Baldwin, he states a quote from a crewman from the Titanic saying, “ Shut up, Shut up; keep out. I am talking to Cape Race; you are jamming my signals.” Since he ignored the warning a few moments later at about 11:40 p.m. the ship came in contact with the iceberg. Baldwin also stated that there was a, “... three-hundred-foot slash in the bottom of the great Titanic.”
The second Amendment to the Constitution, which concern is the rights to bear arms, has always been a hot-button issue, especially during election season. In the United States, the ability to choose whether or not to own a gun means favoring or opposing the right and the legislation restricting rights that come with it. For years, gun rights and gun control groups alike have been lobbying Congress for decades to sway legislation to their respective favors. The question then become, should the United States have more control over guns? The issue of guns in America should remain in the hands of the citizens because it helps people feel more safe and they help prevent people from becoming victims of crime.
Imagine being on a ship and knowing that in just a few hours it was going to sink. This is what the people on the RMS Titanic experienced. Although this was a major disaster, it brought to light the importance of proper safety equipment. If the Titanic had proper safety equipment and proper instruction on what to do in an emergency, the final death toll would be much lower. The titanic was an enormous ship that had many amazing features to it. When the titanic sank it devastated the world. The aftermath of the event was horrific, many people tried to help but not everyone could be saved.
Over the years the cruise industry has seen remarkable growths across the country. Several different ports have seen an increase in ships, which increases the amount of passengers have grown. When ships, and passengers increase it can only benefit the cruise industry in a whole. Means more profits, jobs, and the economy will thrive.
They needed more life boats and less luxury. They should have got rid of some of the berths and parlors to make the ship safe. After the Titanic sank much more safety precautions were added, like always having enough if not extra lifeboats. They also had turkish baths and a gym which seems completely unnecessary. “During Titanic's design, entirely new features were added which had never been seen before. A swimming pool, Turkish Baths, Squash courts and a gym were provided.” ( http://www.titanicandco.com/inside.html ) They did not need all those special special features. They could have spent that extra money on more lifeboats. A Deck, the Promenade Deck, extended 546 feet of the ship. It was only for first class with their cabins, lounges, and other luxuries. “B Deck, the Bridge Deck, was the top weight-bearing deck and the uppermost level of the hull.” (http://jamescameronstitanic.wikia.com/wiki/Titanic_Decks) More first class passengers were here with some more luxury. 6 more cabins were there featuring their own private promenades. “C Deck, the Shelter Deck, was the highest deck to run uninterrupted from stem to stern. It included both well decks; the aft one served as part of the Third Class promenade. Crew cabins were housed below the forecastle. In between were the majority of First Class cabins and the Second Class library. This deck's first class staterooms were a bit
When analyzing this disaster the first thing to consider is the engineer’s design of the Titanic. The Titanic was employing many new and innovative designs that were believed to make the Titanic the safest ship ever built at that time. The engineer’s of the vessel made claims that the Titanic was “unsinkable” and that “even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship should have stayed afloat for two to three days.” One of the features that lead them to this claim was the 16 watertight compartments in the hull of the ship. The way they were designed allowed for up to four compartments to be breached and they ship would still carry
In the early 1900s ocean liners were a lucrative business. Carrying passengers across the vast ocean was the most efficient way to travel. White Star Lines had to find a way to lure passengers away from their competitor, Cunard Lines (Encyclopedia Britannica). They decided to build bigger ocean liners, which focused on comfort, as opposed to speed. The Titanic’s hull was designed to withstand a breech in four of its watertight compartments; this made many believe that the ship was unsinkable. Sadly, for those on the ship, this couldn’t be further

Equally important from, ships from their basic uses in the past that will evolved in time. For instance in the 1800’s to 1900’s by this time there were steam boats, as well for using coal, many factors were infused to make an massive ocean liner, but as recreational tourism was starting. Through trials and errors came the first cruise ship called Prinzessin Victoria Luise. According Cruise History, “Build for the Hamburg America Line, she launched on June 29, 1900… with cruise targeted wealthy travelers the Victoria was designed to look like more a private yacht...” (Cruise History). This would lead to cruise ships like the Titanic, Norwegian cruise ships that strived for pristine luxurious services for their guest supplying a recreational dram as well for obtaining profit. In delving in the history of the use of boats to the use of passage, traveling goods, as well for wars aspect to more recreational tourism.
