How far do you agree that the use of repression was the main reason for the weakness of opposition to Tsarism in the years 1881 – 1914?
I think that the use of repression is the main reason for the weakness of oppositions to Tsarism in the years 1881 – 1914. This is because of many different reasons and factors. One is because the Tsar enforced Russification of the country, meaning the people who were not necessarily a true Russian who enforced the Russian Orthodox Church were made to. People were taught about how Russia was great but not taught about the down sides and faults of Russia. The universities were shut down meaning there was less education to make people into the workers that Russia really needed. This resulted in many jobs…show more content… The Octoborists didn’t want revolution they just wanted a few changes. They were founded in 1905 and wanted changes to happen such as, keeping Russia united and a constitutional monarch. They supporters consisted of many Liberals (the richer people) and the methods they used were similar to the Liberals. Like the Octovorists, the Liberals wanted things such as a constitutional monarchy and no death penalties. Majority of their supporters were middle class, people such as teachers, and their methods used were persuation. They would try and persuade the Tsar to give them power. Furthermore there was the Kadets (the Constitutional democrats) which were also founded in 1905. This group also wanted a constitutional monarch. Their supporters included educated people with an army background and other than using persuation to get their own way they also used force.
The social democrats were created in 1898 and was a Marxist party. Some people favoured improving the lives of workers. Lenin wanted to overthrow Campitalism. Also there was Social Revolutionary party which was founded in 1903 by Victor Chernov. They got people to join this party by promising peasants their own land, they also promised to get rid of the autocratic state and
