Google is enabling us to become smarter than we currently are. We are just shifting our focus from text to visual representations. The internet allows us to increase our attention and sharpen our planning skills. We are allowed to be more creative in problem solving than we used to be. It gives us more of an incentive to focus on and as such, keeps us engaged. Techinally, since we are using the internet so much, we are teaching ourselves a new language. Not a language such as Spanish or French, but a language of coding. Even down to the way we read has been altered. We are just shifting our focus from text to visual representations. Most of us are now reading international news or current events through the internet. There is hardly anybody that relies on only the newspaper to get information. At first it may seem that we are becoming stupid because of Google, but it is just the global transition from text to visual representation. Nicholas Carr states “My mind now expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it: in a swiftly moving stream of particles”. (Carr, 573). We are slowly phasing out our reliance on printed text and as such, our brains are adapting to the way we receive info on the Net. The internet allows us to increase our attention and sharpen our planning skills. Using the internet actually stimulates our minds, so it can be seen that people with less of an attention span might just get angry very quickly at the internet and chose not to use it all
