There have been many turning points in American History; however none have the same effect as September 11, 2001, and many Americans relate the day to the country’s loss of innocence. As a result of 9/11 many American’s lives were affected emotionally, physically, economically, and politically.

September 11. 2001 was a major turning point in American History, and its political and social impact can still be felt today. The tragic event shook the entire country on the civilian and federal level. Before 9/11 many did not think that a plan of terrorism such as that of Osama Bin Laden's would be able to come to fruition because they had great trust in American security. The destruction came as a wakeup call to the federal government and American citizens themselves. National Security became the first thing people thought of when they traveled, and civilians looked to the government for reassurance that they were safe. The federal government's plan of action was to pass a series of acts that would go on to create the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Association. Along with the creation of more strict security measures came the question of "who is a terrorist?" within the country. The formation of the DHS, TSA, and increase of Islamophobia are some examples of the lasting effects that 9/11 had on the country.

On September 11th, a tragedy happened when almost 3500 people died from a terrorist attack. One thing that did not change after this was the way America held itself together. Something devastating had happened but they still managed to push through it and come out strong. As well, the support that American's and other places around the world gave each other are still strong today. Not only our view of the islamic culture but immigration and how strict we are with security, not just with airports but with events with high amounts of people in one specific area. It happened with Alceda that most people didn’t even know about them. Osama Bin Laden wanted to have an impact on America and they didn't have the weapons for attacking the army. The Department of Homeland Security or the DHS is tasked with protecting the United States territory from terrorist threats and to respond to natural disasters. Economies across the world felt the impact following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers, an impact that can still be felt today. If the Twin Towers still stood today, we would be living with a completely different economy.
